So basically I found out this adult i look up to smokes marijuana for "medical reasons"

Some of you that live out west where this is more permissible, what are your thoughts on adults that use marijuana. Is it frowned upon for professionals to engage in this behavior?

I don't frown upon occasional drug-use, only on habitual drug use, so really it depends on that persons intake of said substance.

Depends. As long as you can keep your shit together and still be a productive part of society than who cares. Theres CEO's of fortune 500 companies who smoke. Theres lots of successful people who smoke weed on a daily basis.

The mentality behind week is changing gradually. People have been smoking in secret in every generation. After observing and understanding what the real effect of weed were, people become to embrace it as a "different alcohol".

Remember your change from hating and fearing it to accepting weed, to smoking it to embracing it? Well, society changes in that way, but in a much slower place. We have finally entered the second stage; accepting the fact a vast amount of people like it. Politicians and lawmakers dont want to go there. They want votes. When money or support runs out for one cause, laws and people's perception will change. With pot, it has deep legal troubles. for over 40 years, people have been arrested and had combined drug/violent offenses that have aggravated their sentence for a now legal substance. The question is what to do now? will we review millions of cases? that is expensive and people are not going to be happy.

I frown on an alcoholic as much as I would frown on a drug addict. It's not what they use its how much they use it.

I'm almost a young-adult and I smoke doobs every day. It aint nothing to look down. Tons of respectable people like myself do it.

I have the same judgement toward weed users as alcohol users. If you can use without effecting your life or those around you negatively, go for it. I partake probably more than a healthy amount, but unlike some friends- I can get my schoolwork done and can take my job seriously. Its all about self control.

This.

IMO: Alcohol has basically been ingrained into our society for the past 80 years, and people had already readily accepted alcohol at much higher rates in society as opposed to hemp before prohibition even began. Therefore, it's going to take more time for society to adjust as opposed to how quickly society adjusted to alcohol in post-prohibition.

Also, hemp was truly useful in many agricultural ways before the modern industrialization, but alcohol and beer, more specifically, actually provided nutritional health benefits in times when vital nutrients weren't as abundantly available. I understand that hemp can also provide nutritional benefits, but it seems that they were not relied on as heavily in older societies and didn't have as great of a societal impact as beer did. Hemp also really doesn't provide medical benefits, but rather masks or helps reduce current problems or symptoms. You can say that there has been some evidence of pot bringing actual physiological medical benefit, but it's still not conclusive enough for me to buy that, and more conclusive research / empirical evidence is needed.

I love weed, but it's going to take time. It's kind of like being a freeskier. Either you can represent well to others and let people have a better overall impression of the culture, making it easier to accept, or be a shit head and let people have a negative overall impression.

Mom's longtime fiance

50's former international bodybuilder judge and has trained a ton of famous people like 20 years ago.

He like has terrible hip problems because of it. But like this is a guy so prudent he barely drinks socially.

It would be hypocritical for me to say oh only losers smoke pot.

Like everyone knows OP has posted enough pro pot comments to kill my karma.

He had a wholesale quantity stash at our gym. I just think like it puts my mom in a bad situation where we like know are wondering so WHAT ELSE?

I grew up in a town that is probly more influential than anywhere else in america outside of DC. What i learned is this-

you know the saying "A students will get a great job out of school but the C student will end up managing the A student"? Well, thats not entirely true. The upper, upper end of business is rife with A students who partied as much or harder than any C student.

generally the super succesful people partied/continue to party pretty damn hard, but are smart enough to still function at the highest level. they know there is a time and place for just about everything...but when you start ignoring the "time and place" qualifier is when you get into trouble.

everyone's situation is different, so i try not to judge people based on anything but their actions and the vibe i get from them.

You are thinking of a much lower level of managment than i am talking. Talent is just as neccessary as the gift of gab.

the top level folks are all brilliant, driven, socially smart. they created opportunities that others misconstrue as "right place, right time". Many have vices, but they keep their priorities straight.

Brilliant is seeing a problem before anyone else, developing a solution, and then having the business accumen to recruit the right people at the right times.

The folks incharge of the programming at EA, or Apple or microsoft are all engineers...they just also have the leadership and social skills to go far beyond the trenches.

and you dont think the top execs or department heads at apple are brilliant?

So by adult you mean baby boomers, or close to? Remember, they were the original hippies. Weed is not all they were doing in their youth/adulthood.
