well ok my friend and i are trying to do a practice movie and we have like 80 .avi clips but premiere wont open them so i went to the help thing and it said something about rendering it in the timeline and getting a preview in order to do this but how is it possible if you cant import the file? so do any of you know how to render a .avi file in premiere so i can use it any help is greatly appreciated

if your clips are avi thats strange that they arent importing because thats the standard dv format for premiere. what software did you capture it with and how are you trying to import it? once you open a new project you should be able to select the files on your hard drive and import them into your project. if worst comes to worst you may just have to recapture the footage using premiere, but i dont think that should be necessary. and the help you read doesnt apply to your problem as you shouldnt need to render raw avi files, rendering is only needed if you apply effects and transitions or if the video is in a different format than avi.

suepr awesome cool!
