Adobe Premiere Pro CS6...

Sup NS,

I have been hearing great things about cs6 lately and I have been working with FCP7 for the past two years. But I am wondering if its really worth upgrading my mac's software to 10.6.8 to get CS6 and if I were to upgrade would I lose certain software on my mac?

Thanks,

Will Roache

Literally everyone I know has switched over, or is in the process of switching over. I find i'm able to work faster in PP and have more control over raw workflows. Not that everyone is working in RAW but with the BMCC, Ikonoskop, Digital Bolex, and other cameras coming around the corner that will offer raw files, Premiere Pro handles that, FCP 7 can in some cases but I found it to choke up a bit with the RED plugin.

I'm thinking about switching as well. Just downloaded the master collection for CS6.

I was worried that I would have a hard time grading footage, but CS6 comes with Speed Grade (similar, but not as advanced, as apple color). I also installed davinci resolve, so I think i'm all set.

Photoshop CS6 is optimized for 10.8, but everything else runs fine in 10.6.7 (not 10.6.8). I'm getting a SSD and installing ML on it (10.8), so everything should run crazy fast.

if you do it now, you won't have to later. that's how i see it. fcp7 is just getting older and older

Holy shit, after using PP CS6 for like, 30 seconds, I had the hang of it because the layout is SO much like FCP7. Like, holy shit!

well you don't need to transcode or anything like that. just download the trial, try it, and see if it's worth switching. fcp and premiere aren't all that different imo once you're actually editing the footage.

Thanks Guys! Im definetly going to make the switch... The only thing holding me back at this point is that I have to upgrade my mac to snow leopard.... Does anyone have any tips on doing this?

Thanks again,

Will Roache

I have an Imac Version 10.5.8, 4GB of memory. And the processor is 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo if that has anything to do with it...

just got done playing around with it for about an hour. Its nice. Its got a few bells and whistles that FCP doesnt have. not really sure if i want to make the full switch yet, but im gonna still keep playing around with it!

Its built into premiere, its tits, comes with youtube/vimeo presets too, makes it super easy and efficient to upload online.

Transcoding is always a good habbit. To edit you may not, but you could see quirks when you export.
The only real difference is the lay out and how much control you have over actually starting up a project, the format etc. I'm pretty sure you can actually get the full amount of processing out of your system, unlike FCP 7.
I personally like the layout better.
To make it easy for you there is a button you click to keep your FCP 7 fastkeys!

what do you think i should transcode my avchd to for pp cs6? i've never really bothered before

I guess I misunderstood, I thought you were saying mixing formats. Going back, not sure why I read it that way.
Anyways, i almost always still put everything in ProRes just incase of getting other footage or whatever. Premiere Pro seems to handle all formats relatively well. I've just found its a good habbit to have.

ohh okay, i actually am working on a project right now where i'm using avchd from my hmc40 and also h.264 from my d7000. i guess it'd be good to transcode both to prores? i didn't even know you could use prores in anything other than fcp. the editing is still fine but you said the exporting might screw up.

the really cool thing about cs6 that not many people know is that they dropped sole support of nvidia card in favour of open GL. This means that ati cards are beast at rendering now, and you dont need a nvidia card just to get gpu acceleration.

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm new to Premiere Pro, and pretty new to editing in general. I want to place a clip in between two other clips, but when I use Command+A It affects the song playing even though I'm not overlapping the audio

ProRes works for anything. Most editing platforms, outside of FCP7, support multiple codecs including raw. Editing in the same Codec is always a good thing to do. I would never ever edit in h264.

not sure i'm really understanding your question. just move one of the clips so that there's room to put the other one in between and make sure the clip audio doesn't go on the same track as the song audio. command a will select everything, if you need to move multiple clips out of the way to make room for the new clip, use shift click or command click to select only what you need.

Haha yup.

And the fact my logic board just crashed so im getting a whole new setup. Might as well switch now.

Just did a fresh update to 10.8.1 on a super fast SSD. So far, i'm exclusive :D

who gives a flying fuck...

both will give you the ability to timeline an edit.

tell a story, express emotions though every clip. I've felt that every edit I've made is able to tell a story aout the people I ski with and the people I call my friends. Most people will be able to share the best vibe regardless of the editing software. I could literally make a video on iMovie and be proud of it if it shows the good times that were had by my friends and I. I've been hated and criticized over and over for "not being hyphy enough to rep hood crew" or" using too faggy of music" but who gives a fuck? at the end of the day, if you don't enjoy your work, YOU let yourself down. In my opinion the only people I care about pleasing is my friends and myself. If other people like what we made then I'll be stoked!

So basically what I'm trying to get at, is that using a different video editing software won't make your work better, expressing the good times that were had by you and your friends will literally make any video worth making

It has never been easier..You can download a trial version and start the trial, and then you download a map called frameworks or something and you replace that map with another one also called frameworks..

Just google it or search it up on youtube!:)
