Adding more RAM?

Ok so I have 2 sticks of 256 that I want to add to my desktop pc. I found the slots, unbuckled the little white buckles slid them into place, and then buckled shut, and then tried to turn on my computer, and the monitor wouldn't get a signal. So i tried tightening all the connections with the Monitor cable, and nothing. So I manually shut down, and then took out the 2 new sticks, and now it works. whats the deal?

Are you sure they are the right kind of memory for your computer? If they are wrong they won't work at all.

i had a similar problem.. everytime i tried to use a different kind of RAM (eg not samsung or not pc266) my computer wouldnt start.. then i bought the exact same kind of RAM again and it works now.. i dont guess thats a real solution but i didnt find any other

my step brother is a computer fucking genius and he says they are. He gave em to me. But I can't get a hold of him. Is there any way to tell? they fit perfectly

It sounds to me like it could be bad RAM. Try this. Take out every stick of RAM. Then put in one stick of the 'new' stuff. Then try to boot. Do this for each stick. If you get one stick that it won't boot with, then thats the bad one.

It could also be that the new RAM and the old RAM are incompatible, or that the new stuff is incompatible with the motherboard. Some mobos are picky about the RAM that they will run on.

how much ram is in there already?

how many slots?

If there are 3-4 slots, are you removing any of the old ram to put in the new ram?
