set current one to master and plug it in at the far end of the cable, set teh second one to slave and plug in the connector closer to the motherboard.

you can either set it up with cable select, when the one farthest from the mobo is the laster and closest is slave, or just set them up as master or slave, and it wont matter where they are on the cable

Putting in a new hard drive is easy, but it might help if you got someone else to do it. Or just check the web, there are heaps of guides out there. Try www.hardwarecentral.com

In tractor pulls, a 'full pull' is the best you can get. Ahh, how sport mirrors life.

You basically plug in the IDE cable, probably want to put it in the middle of the cable if its going to be the slave. Plug in the power cable. Make sure the jumper shunt is set to either Cable select or slave (since its in the middle of the IDE cable, either one is fine). Plug a power cable (it will have red, yellow and black into the corresponding slot on the Hard-Drive. Boot up your computer, go into the BIOS, have the BIOS autoselect the settings on your primary slave drive, save the bios settings and boot up windows. There shouldn't be any software you have to install.

Make sure your Motherboard can handle the harddrive size you want to buy. This probably won't be a problem unless your computer is ancient.

And yes, the process is basically identical to installing a CDrom drive.

Biggest thing is to make sure the jumpers on the back of the drives are set correctly. The old drive should be set to master and the new one to slave. Do not select cable select, this is because for cable select to work you actually need a special IDE cable, which you most likely do not have. If the drive does not show up when you get into windows you will have to get into the bios on your machine. this is typically done by holding f2, or delete, or escape, or maybe another button. Ususally there is a message when you boot up that says to enter setup press... Once in the bios you will need to set primary slave to auto select. If it is still not recognized in windows you may need to partition and format the drive. This i will not go into at this time. if you need help send me a private message.

Harddrives are one of the more complicated things to install. I've done it a few times and it's usually no problem as long as you have a relatively new computer. The ancient (8 year old) computers are much harder to install the 2nd HD. Message me if you need help. Looks like the guys above me have it all down though.
