Addicted to Advil

so today, for the first time this season i went skiing WITHOUT taking 3 advil in the morning, and didn't think it would be a big deal. but i was wrong, i was a total mess- i had all sorts of aches and pains, including my retarded osgood slaughter disease in my knees. but the part that scared me the most is that these little pains were bugging me so much i couldn't get focused at all and i was just skiing really defensively and bad.
all this got me thinking- am i dependent on ibuprofen to ski well?? i've always kinda believed an athlete without the influence of any drugs- even as small as advil- will be more focused and able than an athlete who did have a drug in his/her body. but i was totally blown away by how bad i skied today, and now i'm thinking otherwise.
this also got me thinking about how advil can't be the wonder drug that has no side effects or negative aspects- what's the catch?
i'm definitely considering going all ski season next year without without any ibuprofen, and seeing if i can man up a little and break this ibuprofen dependency. i guess there are worse substances to be "addicted" to, but still, any thoughts?

get off the pills. its better to recognize when your body is screaming in pain anyways, that way you can strengthen it to heal yourself

definitely stop...

taking advil seems to me to be kind of useless in a lot of circumstances, unless you really can't take the pain... but it seems to me that it doesn't heal anything, only makes it worse cause you don't realize what hurts, what needs to be taken care of. Also addiction is bad ................

Same thing happened to me, but then i moved into a family's house and when they were gone i sold it and held a crack party with the money.

then it's medicinal, you should be taking it, ibproefen(sp) is an anti-inflammitory as well as a pain reliever, it's really not a big deal, I guarantee it was all mental

yea if you skibum you get into a vicious cycle of taking vitimin I, especially during storm cycles. take a couple days off, or take some mellow, buttery days or somehtingI

Ha thats fucking hilarious

but about the advil problem, i know a lot of kids that take ibuprofen before they ski, shits dumb

I just smoke weed when i ski and if i get hurt i take some Arnica Monatan (homeopathic)

a little pains never stopped me from skiing anyway, maybe you should man up

Im addicted to viagra, i thought whats the harm taking one every time i ski. Then i tried to stop and i just don't seem to have that "pop" that i used to have.

ya i got addicted to advil cold and sinus when i was sick for a month. In order to be able to go skiing i had to take 2 every 4 hours. So pretty much i was coked out on coo coo puffs. And i found that it was realy hard to get off them cuz it allowed me to just not care about flat landings and such.

ya i recommend getting off them sooner rather then later cuz the longer ur on them the harder its guna be for u to get off them.

i definitely know many people who are on the advil program, myself included. When you have crazy inflamation in your joints, you have crazy pain. When you take ibuprofen it reduces your inflammation and swelling, increases your blood flow to your injuries, makes you heal faster, and feel better. It also destroys your liver, but that is more of a long term thing. I'd recommend doing physio and icing your knees before and after skiing if you can and try to cut back on the ibuprofen, but cutting it out of the picture probably won't happen for ya.

do yourself a favor and elevate your mind. perfect candidate for wake and bake therapy if ive ever head one.

mmmm... the good ol 3 advil in the mornin trick... i understand this ritual... but i am also nearing 100 days this season and my chronic shinbang is a lil rough for me to get through.. and i smoke tons of bud, which gets me blazed, but doesnt really make my shins feel better.. what i really need is shintronics..

I'd talk to the doctor about this one. Or maybe you're just not used to it and you have to go without it a few more times to see how you feel. I sorta felt the same way when I started to take my allergy medicine everyday. Stupid, I know, but I hate having to take a damn pill every single freakin day. obviously it's doctor prescribed and I need it, but still.

advil really isnt that strong. i could understand if u were talking about vike or something but i really think your making to big of a deal out of this and its mostly in ur head. just suck it up

I hate it. You get big bumps under your knees and the cartilage serperates from your bone or something. I hate it.

I think it's when your tendon's can't keep up with how fast your bones are growing and you get this big gnarly bump on your knees and it hurts a lot.

get off the pills dude.. i know someone who got addicted ot them and it was horrible to get off them.. stop takin them.. jsut strech or something .. pills are bad for ur body to.. ne ways.. hope it works out for you

get off the pills, they're no good. My aunt got addicted once and she's a complete mess. I'm gonna have to admit though, 1000mg of ibprofen before or after a day of skiing takes care of pretty much everything.

Hell yea. I'ts like the equivalent of taking 15 ibuprofen at once. I usually have to take NSAID's before i ski as well. The shinbang is just to intense to endure without it. I physically cannot ski well some days without drugs because the pain is so intense it's impossible to weight the front of the boots.

when taken in excess, ibuprofen can cause internal bleeding in the stomach and intestines...

and it kills ur liver...

u shouldnt take it every day... a little pain here and there doesnt require advil, im sore as shit right now and havent taken anything...
