ADD and ADHD

Recently its been called to my attention how many kids have "ADD" or "ADHD". NOW I'm not even remotely saying its not a real disease or mental disorder But lately Iv'e figured out how many kids "have" one of these disorders. I have also figured out how many kids will go and get tested or fake the tests so they can get diagnosed with one of these diseases and then get extended test time on exams and even ACT's, IS this ok? What are your thoughts

I think it's bullshit. Society will do anything to take a short-cut and make their lives easier. That's also why America has become so fat.

All it takes to get diagnosed is to lie on the multiple choice tests and boom, "you have ADD/ADHD".

A few years ago I told my dad that I thought I had ADHD and he told me to suck it up. I sucked it up, saved a bunch of money on medical bills, and I still get good grades.

Ton of kids are faking the symptoms in attempt to get the meds too. I know people that have gone all through high school without taking meds but as soon as they start college they're getting scripts. complete bullshit imo I believe theres a small population that truly has the disease but more people pretend to have it to try and help themselves out

I was "diagnosed" with ADD in 7th grade and absolutely pumped full of medication that made me feel like shit 24/7 Not only did it remove my drive to do things but it killed my personality. Eventually I had been switched medications that quite literally made me want to kill myself so I dropped it the first night I took it, drank coffee, and grew out of it. IMO it's complete bullshit that can be used to encompass everything from natural growth to excited people and get healthcare companies and pharmacutical companies money

I started taking medication for my ADD in 7th grade. since then it has made a tremendous difference with my working capabilities and overall focus. I had to try a series of different meds till I found one that worked but now I've been on the same medication for about a year and a half now. I don't see how its bullshit if it helps kids and makes a difference in their overall focus and helps them do better at school.

all the people who tested positive for adhd or add get to write tests in library which is full of biphentum pills when u go there

So my roommate last year decided to pursue a mechanical engineering degree. He got D's in every class and thought it was from ADD or something. So he got prescribed ridalin.

But he got D's because he skipped class and watched superhero movies all day.

In my opinion, I think the majority of people who have ADD/ADHD don't actually have it.

I like that your profile pic is a scene form the Wallace and Gromat episode where their space fridge become sentient and abandons them choosing to stay on mars and ski on cheese

I think its bullshit when people are faking it. I was "diagnosed" with ADD when I was around 7 or 8, and I've been on meds my whole life. Even though they help me focus in school immensely, and I'm so grateful for that, I have zero personality at school, no appetite, if I get focused on the wrong thing, I can't tear myself away from it, my eyes are constantly darting and I get tics. I constantly crack my knuckles on my meds, I pick at my eyelashes, I pop pimples on my arms...it sucks, but it helps me focus. Hopefully going to change the dosage so I don't have these tics.

I was diagnosed when I was like 8-9. I never take my meds cuz the dosage is way to small to make a difference with my fat ass so I just sell em to freshman

Honestly, if kids want to have ADHD they should be sent to mental asylums for the rest of their lives, you don't even need to worry about college there.

Took my buddies meds one time early Senior year of HS. It made such a difference I had my mom take me to get tested. I didn't fake the tests and was diagnosed with ADD, tested a few different medications and ended up with an Adderall script. It was absolutely amazing at first, I went from struggling to focus and close to failing, to easily acing everything. But it has some crazy negatives that I overlooked because of the grades.

Fast forward to now, freshman in college, and I think getting that script was one of the worst things that has ever happened to me. I went from being on the skinny side to downright anoerexic (133, 6'3..) and lost all ability to focus without it. It's almost made the ADD symptoms worse.

IMHO, ADD may be real, but it can easily be overcome if you force yourself to overcome the added difficulty and urge to be lazy. I've since quit the drug and switched to coffee and although I have to work harder, I'm so much happier and feel so much better about myself.

I don't think doctors understand what that shit can do to a person..

this. diagnosed when i was like 12 and i can't imagine still taking those meds to this day

Adderall is pharmaceutical grade meth in a pill. The side effects mentioned above are similar to the effects of meth hence the term written right on the pill, mamphetamine salt. Salt is a crystal. Picking skin, losing weight, eyes darting, hyper focus, umm hello wake up people. Throw that garbage away and never look back. That stuff is pure trash .

I've been taking to this girl and hanging out with her and I would have never known if she didn't tell me. And I've hung out with her with and without her medication

I HATE this shit. It's not meth. No such thing as "grades" of meth. It is an amphetamine salt that enters and affects the brain in different ways.

Not that it's good for you or that it isn't a similar stimulant but it is NOT METH NOR IS IT THAT CLOSE TO METH. meet somebody who smokes tweak and you will see what I mean.

Done meth and adderrall plenty in my younger drug years and they are EXTREMELY similar. Adderrall is like glass sorta just not as powerful super similar effects tho.

Adderall, concerta, ritalin and all other forms of amphetamines they give to kids are ridiculous. I know many that have taken these and yes it helps their focus, but also makes eating and sleeping very difficult, not to mention grinding all the enamel off your teeth. I have a friend that recently switched to modafinil, he says it is the most amazing thing ever. After years of battling ADD and the medication they prescribe he finally did the research and found modafinil which is not an amphetamine, but a nootropic histamine. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or even if it is legal in the USA?

Had to fight tooth and nail to not take the fucking medication because my mom couldn't handle me not getting straight As.

Its a terrible trend medicating kids and telling them they have this shit I would refuse to take the medication if I was any of you young uns.

ADD is real. Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it not exist. There's physical differences in the brains of ADD/ADHD patients, and the evidence keeps piling up The important thing moving forward is how to treat each individual patient. Does amphetamine salt treat each patient equally? nope. I'd imagine in the near future there will be individualized treatments for each individual with different cocktails and dosages of different drugs.

But this brings up a cultural issue. What does "productivity" in society mean, and what is it worth? Is it worth subjecting people to addiction in order to "cure" deficits in, what it really comes down to as, productivity? I dont fuckin know, give me ur meds tho i'm tryna get lit

the problem isn't just people faking it-- a fair amount of the people who think they actually have it probably don't, either.

I don't believe in medicating kids under 18 with ADD or ADHD meds, really.
