ACL's

i know most people will recomend i go to a doctor instead of asking newschoolers. im going wednesday, but im curious and i want to know more about this before i go visit my doctor, or maybe this has happened to someone else on here. i have torn my acl before in my other knee so i know what it feels like to tear it.

so this past weekend i felt "the pop"(i didnt hear it like i did last time though)after just making the rotation around while doing a 7 over a jump. my inside right edge awkwardly got caught in the landing(i spun left). ive had all the same symptoms as last time, but i did the lachmans test on myself(its the only test i know how to do) and it seems to be holding up just as well as my left acl. also, the swelling in my knee is almost all down only after 2 days of the incident, while it took about 2 weeks for my knee's swelling to go away last time i tore the other. I can also put a lot more weight on it than i was able to compared to last time i tore my other acl and can almost walk perfectly fine. so i have 2 questions for you guys.

1. are these all signs of only a partial tear?

2. if it is partially or even completely torn, do you guys think it would be ok for me to wear a brace and film the rest of the season(about 2 months)?

i popped mine the same exact way but its a full tear. go check with the doc, you don't wanna fuck with ACL.

i dunno if this is the same, but last year i tore a ligament in my ankle. i definitely heard a snap, it was pretty loud

i tore my acl at the end of last season and i havent got it fixed.. i ride with a good brace and almost the same just gotta be a little more careful and casing hurts like a bitch

That sounds like its probibly ACL or maniscus. I tore both of em doing the exact same thing definitley go check with your docter, if its partial, your lookin at 1-2 months if its full 6 months. I would do what the docter says because if you fuck up on your recovery now you could develop arthritis at a young age. But ya sorry man vibes your way hope for the best

wow thats seriously not good at all haha. unless if it was just a partial tear u had. of course i wont be hitting jumps if i wear a brace and ski, i just want to ride around and at least film and be around my friends again

Last year i tore my right acl and got surgery right away. this year i tore my left acl and have been skiing with a donjoy knee brace with no problems and plan to get surgery in may. you just have to be careful. look into getting a knee brace. my donjoy was $1300 or so but since i had a confirmed acl tear it was covered by insurance.

no its not really that bad at all.. i have a complete acl tear and meniscus just gotta take it a little easier but i dont even really notice it

You really can't tell. ACL tears can swell a lot, or none at all. Hurt a ton, or not. No one can tell you anything until you get the MRI

I'm a few weeks into my second knee blow out. This time, I did the trifecta (acl, mcl, meniscus). Last time I did the mcl and meniscus.

The MCL runs on the inside (meaning facing the other leg) of your knee. An injury like you describe where your knee goes sideways, inward, as opposed to it stopping and the rest of your body continuing (acl), is a typical way to hurt your mcl. MCLs get enough blood flow where they will heal themselves, even with a significant tear. Typically you'd never have your MCL surgically repaired unless you also ruptured the ACL. Sometimes scar tissue develops in the meniscus (padding between your femur and tibia), and they need to scope it out. It's possible that your ACL is just fine, but that other ligaments like the MCL, or even the PCL, could be damaged along with the meniscus. Do yourself a favor and get to a doc, and get an MRI stat. Last year, I was only off of snow 6 weeks with some solid PT. This year, I'm looking to schedule surgery. Truth be told...I thought the injury was worse last time. DOn't fuck with your knees, don't ski until you see a doc bro!

last year in CO my mom was following me in the park and watching me hit jumps she went off the knol nd unexpectidly caught air she tore her acl and broke her fibia i think (kneecap) shes still not fully recovored and she said the pain was like her knee just exploded... i cant really say much but it was pretty bad...
ha not very helpful just thought id tell the story

Any reason why forward landing spins would increase the risk of acl tear rather than landing switch? I prefer to land switch, it feels more comfortable and like there is less pressure going through my whole body - less jarring. However, does it actually increase the likelyhood of tearing your acl?

I first heard mine pop after switching back round from a switch landing and catching an edge. However i carried on skiing until i landed a 360 near perfectly far down the landing, and there was a huge intense pain and i couldn't stand, i now know my knee was dislocated due to not having the acl.

I don't land forwards after spins much anyway, due to it jarring my body more, but if you can prove that it is asking for an acl tear then i won't be doing it again, at all. Anybody else go with this theory?

P.S. Yesterday was my first day back skiing, it felt amazing! My knee hasnt felt right for weeks (im at 8 months after surgery now) but this weekend i've realised that it feels solid as ever, and after a gym session yesterday morning, i realised i can move more weight with my 'bad' leg now than my good leg. You know when its ready!

ya when I did mine, I didn't hear anything I went to jump up and put my skis back on and then my knee gave out. I thought it was just an MCL but then my MRI revealed that my acl was completely gone. it's so hard to know with knees

dude good luck, iv just walked in from seeing my surgen, i fully fucked my knee, out for 9 months,, so down buzz it sucks ass... but thats the price to pay to be a skier right?

nah man i ski park ride pow and spin and do all the shit i normally would.. i even played a whole season of football on a torn acl like i said before i have a good brace and strong leg muscles to take pressure of my knees when skiing

I second that.

Ive been skiing with a torn ACL all season... and don't plan to get a surgery in the near future. (not like till Im 40 or whatever)
