ACL Surgery... Tips?

I tore my acl this year and am having surgery this summer, hopefully in time to ski next season. But I was wondering how long you guys were on pain meds? and what type? I don't want to be drugged up my whole summer... Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks NS

Im getting ACL reconstructive in a little over a month, the only thing I can say is get your legs in really good shape pre-surgery. the stronger your are going into it the faster you will recover.

First off, that sucks, im sorry to hear that.Welcome to the team though, we are about 5 of my friends rite now in recovery.
Now about pain meds. The doctor is the one who will assign what he thinks is best for you, People react differently to medication.Depending on the degree of pain you have and the allergies(if you have any) he will give you pain medication.Pain meds suck, the first few days you feel like shit. But after a while you get use to it, Best way to stay positive is to find something to do, like a hobbie, get some guitar classes, start to draw, theres a lot to do.Oh yea, theres Ns! good source when ur bored. Or you can do like me and make bracelets and raise money for a good cause. :)
Cheer up ! Itll be over before you know it

Had my Reco a little over 2 months ago. Shitty situation for anyone. Just do what the docs tell you to do.

anyways, I was on Hydros for like 5 days, then just ibuprofen. Dreamy.

ive had both knees done.first time i was on painkillers for 2 weekssecond time 1 week. and it rewally just depends on what your dr wants you to take but i was on percoset.

I only needed drugs the first week after surgery.....but I was prescribed copious amount of pain meds so I was able to enjoy them months after, and sold a bunch aswell.

i was on pain killers for about 2 days. try to take them for as short of a period as possible, they fuck with your digestive system. when the pain gets too bad, smoke weed, don't take shitty drugs. get strong before you start and buy a nice bike for your recovery. I was allowed to bike at the 6 week mark so i did that a whole lot. get your mind in a good place, find something that gives you joy. its pretty damn tough, and its easy to get depressed. focus all of your energy on recovery and regaining strength and motion, because if you don't get strong again come ski season you will not be ready, and you will really feel horrible. there is no worse feeling than failing to recover quickly when you know you could have. good luck
