ACL Reconstruction

just got the word...i blew my acl in my right knee. cased one of the monsters at breck and that was that. anybody have an advice on makin it through this major injury?

oh i've blown it twice. just get on the bike as soon as you can stand it, the stronger your knee is before the better off you will be afterwards. Do you know what graft you'll have yet? i reccommend the cadaver graft, thats what i had my second time around it was much better. but you gotta be careful not to jump into things real soon after that. cuz it doesnt hurt but its still pretty weak.

Check out Avalanche physical therapy at the Breck Rec after your surgery, Rob is the man, and will get you back up to strength quick

if its just the acl, you're in luck, because thatll save you from 6 weeks of nothing after surgery if you have to have a meniscus repaired. but i had my acl graft and both meniscuses repared in late april and ive been skiing since the first weekend in november no problems whatsoever. except i cased the last jump at keystone last weekend and i was swollen for two days afterwards.

I'm like three and a half weeks out of surgery now. The first 5 or 6 days are reallly shitty, but after that you start making good progress. Just stick to the PT.

so after that first week things can get back to normal. i need to figure out what kind of timeline i am on for getting back to work? how long on crutches? how long in the imobilizing brace? how long till you can be up and just walking around without the brace?

your in breck make the ride over 2 vail visit steadman hawkins clinic they r the best u can thank afterwords L8r

you'll be in the brace for at least a month. back to "normal" in about 2.5. and back to normal activity around 3.5-4 months.

be solid with your rehab - commit to your therapy and take your docters and physical therapists advice. work ur arse off on the mindnumbingly boring exercises and all will be well.

best of luck bro

Im lucky that i only blew my MCL this year. It's only been a month and i get to ski next week. But it could have easily been my ACL and meniscus. I know how you feel.

good luck rehabbing it and all that. i blew mine out a few weeks ago, too, but because of another surgery I haven't had my big meeting about surgery yet. i was talking to another girl on the site and shes getting a hamstring graft, are you looking into that?

and can I get an invite to the ACL/injury cult? I'm curious to see what other women are going to do... I dont want to get surgery right away but being a female, i'm naturally less muscular and being a saggitarius, i'm naturally jinxed, so you know...

whatever you do, dont wait and ski on it.. guys say its okay, but i swear to god it was the worst experience ever. I skied, didn't hit ANYTHING, didn't fall, caught about a foot of air, landed perfectly even on my feet and my knee shot right.. blew both meniscuses in my right knee for no reason. worst pain in the whole world. couldnt move it, couldn't do anything, screaming hysterically in pain.. one meniscus was completely ripped off the bone and dislodged...worst experience..

^awwwwwww that sounds incredibly painful! i think the reason guys say its okay is because they are just stronger...

and to the girl wondering about hamstring grafts, i used the hamstring graft the first time and i did the cadaver the second time on the same knee. and the only thing about hamstring grafts is it takes longer to be able to walk because the strength in your hamstring has been depleated. so, before you can walk you have to let your hamstring repair and heal. which takes longer, but thats alright for your knee cuz it gives it more time to get solid before you get back on it. Having a knee reconstruction is really rough for the first probably week and half or two but after you get past it and start healing, you amaze yourself with how well you are doing and how easy it gets after the initial stages.

man.. I'm glad I don't have to get that. My injury resulted in a tendonitus. If I stretch enough it gets better, so I stretch for an hour every day. I duno much about knee injury but it seems like stretching A LOT helps anything. I hope all you guys with this acl stuff get better. I feel for all of you.

peace

i did mine last year and i also did my meniscus and mcl it blew. i got a patella graft when i had my surgery and it worked really well.

buy ssx on tour and amped 2. crochet. physical therapy alot. owrk out alot. chill wit friends. get a myspace, very gay, but it helped me waste alllllot of time when i blew my knee

get an autograph, unless u work a job where ur on ur knees a lot, like a whore. the first week after surgery will be the worst week of your life but after that itll be less than 2 weeks until u can get rid of the crutches.
