same, i liked the way they skiied, but to be totally honest i raped those things.
I got them and skiied them for a couple of days. one day i threw a cork 5 and never came out of cork and tore the heel out. i got it helicoiled back in, but then the other one came out. i bought some invaders and retired these to the backyard. I remounted them myself and they stayed in longer than the shop mount. the water eventually found its way in through the old holes that werent sealed the best and got the core nice and rotten. one day in the backyard they just fell apart. they snapped in half and in anger i hit them against a tree and thats how they delamed so far up the ski, but before i hit them they were already snapped.
After all that i would still buy the ski if it was made better. It is true i bought some Rory Silvas from the same year, but the core is way better on the Rorys. i am just so dam tempted by the prices. i bought the butters for 150 brand new and the Rorys for 100 a little used.
My shittiest skis are probably my Head Mojos, but those things are fucking tanks on all levels. Complete 2X4s, but you can ride them on gravel, mud, lava, whatever, they hold up. Still have them actually.
My foils were completely falling apart after a couple of semi-hard landings and i fuckin tossed that shit instead of even getting a warrantee. Those foam cores are... buhh.
Ive been riding k2 since and i've been pretty happy.
I haven't had a bad experiences with skis people say are shitty.
4Frnt STL- still holding up really well from 06/074Frnt TNK- not in HORRIBLE condition like some people's 07/08's
I rode a pair of KGB's that I had won for 60+ days and beat the shit out of them and they held up super good and then on a super super cold day the edges blew out at the seams on the tails of both skis. Didn't affect the ski in anyway... just duct taped them back in place for the time being. Then I emailed liberty and told them that i didn't pay for the skis in the first place, but wanted to get a new pair of liberty's... they gave me a proform and I got a good deal on last years phil larose's. Sounds like I had a much more legit experience with Liberty.
I just didnt like how they rode, I guess Im just so used to riding a symmetrical ski that was softer. everybody loved em so I thought I would try my friends.(I never owned them) And I rode Last years and the year befores.
i'll second that. i've tried out a ton of skis over the past few years, and they were honestly the only ski that i thought flat out sucked. it really felt like i was a beginner and couldnt carve a turn to save my life, and i've been skiing for 22 years now. i never liked foils, but they're not a bad ski, just not my style. same deal with the head mojos (80). the 90s were awesome, but the 80s just didnt do it for me.
it seems like a lot of you have purchased a lot of skis without doing your research?
its hard to say. i break all my shit all the time. i dont own a pair that arnt missing edges or have dents in the edges and the base is pushed up. my rossi blasts only have 2 edges and my s4's are compleatly fucked
Haha I actually kind of liked riding my KGB's... granted there is no sidecut, they're super stiff, and not terribly durable. But I actually kind of liked them, but then again I didn't pay for them so maybe I was just biased. But I always have believed that you can ski good with shitty skis. A ski is a ski in my opinion.
Salomon thrusters are the worst skis I've had but I won't say that I hate them. Just very chattery, they were great when I got them but now that I've gotten better and am actually hitting bigger jumps they're just way too soft.
Elan MO2s, went through 4 pairs in 4 seasons. Picked up the new suspects instead this year, they seem sick so far but the east coast needs a jump before ill know
Anything from salomon with that shitty fucking foam core. Nobody who weighs 140 like I do should EVER be able to destroy a pair of skis like I broke a pair of pocket rockets like I did.. HOW there are so many people still on pairs of them baffles me - then again, most are newbs, so it somewhat makes sense.
also 4FRNT uses the WORST edges ever...
and I LOL every single time that K2 comes out with the Apache Recon without changing it every year. Seriously. That ski hasnt changed since 2002 or something? And then they ask nearly 1200 for it with a crappy 12 din marker binding. Innovation? Negative rough rider.
lol my dad has those skis and he thought they were the shit, until he strapped on my pipe cleaners. Then he tossed his shit ass overpriced, plate-of-metal recons and bought a pair of prophet flites
