I think its supposed to taste like shit. you need a spoon and sugar and oil of wormwood and shit. (I think its a like weed and has THC in it) you can get shit that says absinthe on the bottle but you gotta snoop around to get the real shit and its not in stores. its in crazy europe countries.

I bought a bottle for 90 bucks, it is the sickest, as in sick bad, shit there is. It's hard to drink enough of it to actually get any effect. But it's like being drunker than you have ever been but you still know whats going on. Not worth the price.

absenthe is tight drink. trick: get a shot glass fill it with absenthe or 151 dip your finger in it light your finger take the shot then put your finger in your mouth you with blow like a 2 foot long flame out your mouth.

yeah the guys that made their own moonshine probably cut it with rubbing alcohol or something, distilling and fermenting is pretty safe (the drinking part, you gotta watch out for explosions eh)

it seems like a really good price, 20 bucks a bottle (26er?s) I heard theres a way to drink it so that it doesn't taste like complete shit, I think I read it on Erowid.org

yeah they had absinthe in new orleans but people drank it too much and went insane and either died or were just terminally insane for the rest of their lives, id try it but i dunno about 4 bottles, thats a lot of shit right there and it might fuck you up for good, im not sure though, the people who went terminally insane might have had a lot more than that, but id still be carefull

i just did an msn search and found a ton of info. its not illegal to import, possess and drink it in n. america, but you cant make it. the active ingredient from the wormwood is also quite toxic, would be cool to try once or twice. www.absinthebuyersguide.com

Hemmingway drank Absinthe and from everyone who I have heard of that drank said it wasnt really worth it. Like you need to drunk and shit (or the equivalent) before you notice the hallucinatory effects. YOu can buy 'Absinthe' in Canada but it isnt the real stuff. THe real stuff comes from Eastern Europe

just remember, the real absinthe was the reason for the downfall of europe during the moulin rouge era, and a big part of some of the wards that were waged upon france, since everyone was too fucked up on it to do anything

its a halucinegenic alcoholic spirit, that has a very strong licorice flavor. Its green in color and supposed to be servered poured through sugar cubes. The halucinegenic properties come from the wormwood. There are all sorts of recipes to make it, but in the states, your best bet is get the bottled kind and go and get some wormwood. Then soak the wormwood in the absynth.

It dates way back and was extremely popular with artists and writers in Europe at the turn of the 19th/20th century.

...and for the genius mentioning moonshine at 200 proof. Good luck, that would be 100% pure grain alcohol, odorless, tasteless, and deadly (not to mention the fact that it would evaporate so quickly and be so incredibly volitile to make). The human body cannot handle 100% pure grain alcohol, that is why Everclear is about as high as you can get at 190 proof (95% pure grain alcohol).

yeah, I think 96-97 is really the highest you can possibly get it, and even then you've gotta distill it a few times, you can't distill anything to get pure alcohol there always has to be water.

Hallucinogenic? Not at all. It's just an alcoholic drink, allbeit a very strong one. Definately not something you'd drink regularly though, maybe a shot or two on a big night. A friend of mine had 7 shots one night, pretty hardcore. I had two (the second with a milkshake chaser :P ) and was sure I was going to puke.

actually, true Absinth is halucinegenic. It is an effect of the wormwood. Any that you buy off the shelf will not have gone through the wormwood process. However, if you make it right, and soak the wormwood, it is halucinegenic (i hate spelling this).

So basically, you wanna get drunk and trip, make your own (there are plenty of recipes on the net), and if you just wanna drink something with a pretty acquired taste, just buy it off the shelf.

its not an extract, you actually have to buy wormwood. I think you can get it in like herbal remedy type stores (ones that carry weird stuff) - but I would look online, maybe that can help too.

Yeah, like I mentioned in the other topic regarding Absynthe...there was an article in Maxim. And yes, it is not illegal to import, posses, as well as consume in the United States.

For those who spoke of terminal illness are mistaken. Absynthe was not actually cause of the illness, it was simply the era and the time period. Of course, something must be blamed and in this case it was the alcohol.

Wormwood is a hallucinagenic substance that is included in the ingredients of authentic European Absynthe. The stuff sells anywhere from $20-$100 in Europe and the Republic.

The substance is meant to be consumed with sugar and in smaller amounts. The hallucinagenic effect is brought on by the Wormwood, if consumed too rapidly the alcohol in the liquid takes over and the hallucenagenic effect is diminished.

Check websites and what not for more information. And if you've got a credit card, order some. As long as it's consumed in moderation it is not deemed deadly. Many drink it regularly today. LATE

it does have halucenegenic properties, van gogh was rumored to be drinking it everyday. thas why he cut his ear off. it builds up in your system, but it takes a few months of drinkin it everyday to experience the drug liek effect. the stuff we got in canada is the middle grade, the top shit is from czech rep. i had it over there, and they putit 1oz in a brandy glass, then put a knife across the top with a sugar cube on it. u put a few drops of absinthe and light it on fire, let the sugar caramalize and then it drops in to the glass, lighting the rest of the alcohol. u put your hand on top to put out the fire and then stir in the sugar. when its done with fire it tastes like super strong mint, but no fire makes it taste like scope. i got right fuckt on it there, and i t only cost like 2 bucks for a shot in the bar. i was fuckin shitfaced after like 4 and had the best time of my life.

 
dude i was being sarcastic about the 200 proof thing. and never drink moonshine not made yourself. if somebodys stills are a few degrees off you could end up with some wood alcohol in your booze and thats got diasaster writtin all over it.

My mate brought someback from Czech, they sell the real stuff over there, and its fucking strong. Don't no what proof is (its graded in % over here) but it was 80% pure, which is crazy. We couldnt drink much of it though, good for lighting bbq's.
