Above 18?

losh

Active member
this is basically in response to the tobacco ad thread. I just find it hard to believe that 91% of the users on this site are over 18.

also I think that if you take into account the average age of active member it would be much less than 18.

considering how long this site has been running, if you think about all of the inactive accounts people created 6 or more years ago (bishop said most people make an account at age 12) those inactive accounts definitely boost up the age.if that is how it was figured out.

I think it'll be interesting to see how many people are actually underage, or just act it.

There are a lot of people who visit the site that do not post. Taking those people into consideration I don't doubt the average age is above 18.

^true. People over 18 are generally busier or have more important things to do than post in every thread. They more likely just come to Newschoolers to watch videos. 91% does seem pretty high though.

We've measured the data of ages of 'active' NS accounts, which we defined as "Has logged in at least once in the last three months" - still gave us an average age of 21.

There's two factors that contribute to the confusion.

1) There are a fucking TON more people who come here than people realize. Its freaking massive, and more people than admit it are Newschoolers members.

2) Your perception of the site depends on what part of it you like. Those perceptions are also wrong because most of the 'shit talking 12 year olds' that we research are secretly 28 year old guys using aliases... who get banned.

I mean, I'm all for a youth outreach, and I'm all fired up to find that the new generation doesn't just want to get into freestyle programs and get on a path to the Olympics. I really am - but right now I'm seeing the youth of today following a dramatically different path... and it leads to the Olympics with a shitload of coaching.

Hell, I'll trade all the tobacco ads in the universe to get the youth of skiing today on a path that isn't so god damn lame.

average age of the user is not accurate data, because 1. people lie on their profiles 2. outliers can sway a data set tremendously

basically, what im trying to say it that amount of info your browser alone picks up is insane.

I could be wrong, but if 3rd party sites gather up all this info like i've read in other posts, would they have access to your Facebook info, twitter info, and other forms of social media info? I'd assume if they did there would be a way that they can give an approximate age range or even an exact age.(?) Thats how I interpreted it. Which is pretty interesting. These kinds of stats are pretty cool.

yep exactly that. they would probably have most of your browsing history and your interests. its pretty scary how much info these people can get

You'd think so wouldn't you. (says a 30 year old with nothing better to do than post in this thread)

Most older people don't care enough or have the time to post. Like myself. I post rarely, at 26. Ah life is just ripping along :(

Is freeskiing not a good market for advertising bathsalts?

I was wondering if the snus ad targeted me because of my browser history apparently not.
