for the last few years ive been thinkin about makin myself a resident of washington. this will be the biggest thing ive ever done in my life since ill most likely be goin solo. so i was wonderin if any of the locs there could help me out with some info? like whats a livable income for a single man. here in great fall mt its like 20,000. also what do welding/machining jobs look like there in ur areas? id like to maybe move some place like bellingham but any place kinda in between all the good ridin spots would most likely work out to. thanks alot for the people that help me out...

Bellingham is a cool place though. The cost of living seems pretty reasonable but I live in a dorm so I'm not the best person to ask. Sam Caylor would be the baller to ask.
 
ill be 21 in january. got two years weldin and machining with montana air national guard and am almost done with draft design degree at my local college. but i now that bellingham has some better welding coarses over at there technical school. definitly would be a permanent move. just have a gut feelin its a place id like.

whats night life like there? college chicks any good to look at? venues? kayakin? mt bikin?

these r all the things i really love so if its a good location for it all, then im goin to start my planing for there soon. maybe like this summer.

ill be there this winter for a baker trip and id really like to meet up with some of the locs. get the lowdown of the area. but still would like some more info
 
Bellingham is a shithole economically. House prices are super inflated, whereas the average income is only 30k. Renting is very very reasonable despite house prices because we have many old-time landlords. Lots of hippies.

College chicks.. Western has an INCREDIBLE selection. Especially this years freshmen. I'm very surprised when I drive around and probably 3 out of ever 5 girls is good looking.

Venues. There's not much in the way of theater in town, unless you want to drop $40 per show at the Mount Baker theatre. Bands swing through Bellingham a lot, but all the good bands tend to only come to the VU.

Night life is good if you know people for partying. I can't think of any big clubs in town, but I'm sure there must be one. Lots of weird people in downtown at night though.

We have Galbraith mtn for mtn biking, and it's legit, but no chairlifts (gotta work for it!). On the other side of town we have Academy mtn which is some good biking, and in Fairhaven there's chuckanut mtn with more good biking. Lots of kayak tours and such.

 
how bad r house prices? if i was lookin at somethin like a 2 bed 1 bath with garage, what would be a rough average price?
 
look at cragislist maaaan. there is a lot more helpful information about housing away from a ski website.
 
House prices are dropping because people can't afford anything. Last year was the year to sell any investment housing people had here, and now it's the downward trend. (this was happening before the likewise national trend though)

so prices should be adjusted to a reasonable rate in the next 3-5 years based on the income here in town.

the problem is there's not much work here. I don't know all that much about work since I leach off my parents though.
 
I couldn't disagree more young buck. There isn't shit for hot girls, and the semi cute ones think they are the hottest people in the fucking city and act like they are the shit.

Oh I agree they're cunts. He asked if there were good women to look at though. I've been seeing a huge increase in good looking women this year compared to previous years, and this is my... 9th? 10th? year living here. I don't remember, but is what I've seen!
 
thanks alot. this helped me get a pretty good idea on what to expect. some of it was a little pricier then what we got hear but reasonable upon location. ill probably end up buyin some trailor. anything cheap to get me kicked off would be perfect right now. +k
 
Oh I don't know if this makes a big difference, but weed of pretty is very easy to come by in town. Tons of good weed from up north.

If you're into the fucked up shit, there's tons of meth in town too.
 
well im military sooo the weed i cant have but if i can make it happen i will and the meth...well... i got plenty of that around me and havent been interested in it yet.

haha no dude. just in my city. im in the guard so that makes me barely military, so i have no idea what drugs r popular on base. if i had to guess, it would be acid.
 
Lol. Telling a guy from Great Falls ... or anywhere in Montana that you town has a lot of Meth is like Dave the Busboy bragging about how cool he is to Zach Morris.

as far as cheap housing goes, if your looking for a room and not really worried about the condition of it, check with Lakeway Realty, they usually have a shittier places here in town and will more or less stay out of your business. if your looking for the more upscale places around town, check with Landmark Management. i had a apt we rented from them, awesome place, newish, except they had quarterly checks for "damage" or some shit.

either way, baker is worth the move. it took me 3 days up here to realize that.
 
hell ya military guys do acid. the only way they can test u for it is threw a spinal tap, which is illegal in america. they use cocaine quite a bit too, since its out of ur system in 24 hours. i think shrooms is another one they use quite a bit, but not sure on that.
 
dude im soooo hopin i can make it out there this summer. after the jewel basin trip of coarse. right now im just tryin to see how i can pan out my school. then its find a job and a house. i could live in a apartment for awhile though, just til i get some shit straitened out...
 
how often does it actually snow in bham? or in that case get frosty/ icey in the mornings? im buyin a harley this summer so i want to make sure i can get plenty of miles on it during the year... i can usually get from mid march to beginning of november out of my bike now, but thats not enough!

IN town we get usually 1 big snowstorm a year. you can definitely drive a harley 6-7 months a year. the mt baker highway is a great ride, and is snow-less generally from april-october.
 
dude killer. really dont want to have to buy a new car( though its prob a good idea anyway)if i can get away with many months on the bike. my car blows so i try to drive it as least as possible. actually, it doesnt even run right now... u guys have been killer with info! +k for everyone. also ill start hittin up some of u guys when i get ready for my big baker/washington trip. prob in january. not sure yet.
 
their is a fair deal of construction going on though and with the amount of trees downtown there are shit tons of leaves laying on the streets. at least in the old part of town.
if you just want to live in the whatcom county area there is ferndale too, which is expanding some and you can find houses for sale... unfortunately, in these areas you will probably be the only NON-russian immigrant in them.

i have two friends that graduated from ferndale before i did that are working in machining/welding jobs. if you want i could find out where they work and get the info to you.
 
yea that would be killer. see if u cant figure out what there makin as an apprentice/journy's man. that would help out alot.
