About knee injury[ACL]

I blew my knee at Feb.

I`m wondering whether I can do water jump this summer or not.

Is is dangerous to do water jump like 4 month after surgery?

well at around 4 monhs im pretty sure most people wouldnt be able to do that. but everyone's recoveries arent the same. maybe if you wear your knee brace you can because i know some people have skied 4 months after their reconstructions, but im guessing most likely you wont be able to

I think mines healing fairly quick, and iv waterjumped before, before my knee blew out. and my knees hurt regardless after i did it. in other words, from my experience.. HELL NO. its not worth it. and if you land flush with the water, even if it is still chopped up, you will probably reblow your knee.

i got an acl repair march 25th and im looking at september or october.
take 6 months after opperation MINIMUM before you start thinking about doing any sorta of extreme activity

also what made you think it was a good idea to ask newschoolers?
this DEF seems like something you ask the surgeon about.
or hell even our grandma before NS

At 4 months I would not have been ready. Your Dr. and PT are the people to ask, but I would not do it myself. You want a TON of therapy then lots of strength work on your own before doing that. I would be careful and take it slowly. You do not want to wreck next season to hit a water jump.

hows your strength, how much can you flex it (foot to ass in degrees). Oh yeah what does your doc say? Asking here is plain silly. You get answers from people with out even high school degrees. I have had my knee done 2x and it takes a lot longer to heal than you think.

my buddy blew out his ACL last year. november he got surg. he has been in rehab and shit still. he cant even run full bore which blows. i would wait. tis not worth it fuckin it up again.

i had reconstructive on my acl and lcl 10 days ago....not that its relevant or anything.

im hoping to make it to whistler really late june just to ski very carefully and chill. not gonna charge it by any means though.

I tore my acl, mcl and medial and lateral meniscus like last week and the doctor said not to play any sports for like five or six months or it will tear again but everyones different

It depends what kind of graft you got after surgery. If you used patellar tendon, then no. If you used a replacement tendon from a cadaver(sp?)--dead guy's tendon (mainly achilles) then maybe, because you won't have to rehabilitate through a bunch of scar tissue in your patellar tendon as well. Also make sure that your illiotibial (I.T.) band stays loose and doesn't get too tight because it gets really tight in order to compensate for the lack of your quads and sartorius working during your rehabilitatioin that can limit your range of motion a lot, if it gets too tight then get on a foam roller and roll that shit out so that it loosens up. I am studying this stuff right now, I actually learned it all today so its perfect time to make a thread about it!

I had a petella graft done alomst 6 months ago, and my knee still ain't right. I don't see myself feeling almost 100% until maybe the begining of ski season next year. (sorry about spelling, its late)

i had acl surgery 3 weeks ago and i have been trying to find a way to ski..i dont think its a good idea.

my friend told me to use one of the handicap ski things, try using one of those if skis dont work out lol.

its up to you, but i had ACL surg dec 11th, and skied 12 weeks later. Im about 18 weeks out now and ive 360ed some small jumps. But this is my thrid surgery, so i sort of know what the hell im doing...if this was your first, youre going to go crazy on it and hurt it again i can almost guarantee it. So id stay off it.

Or you have no idea what you're doing since you've had two more surgeries than your PT or Surgeon would expect. I can't believe you haven't learned anything from the first two...

Actually i did learn. I'll be stronger and better then ever next winter, and I'm still having fun this season taking it easy. I now know my limits.

As long as it wasnt a patellar tendon graft and you have your brace, you'd probably be okay to water ramp in like August/September, but I wouldn't at the beginning of the summer.

it ain't worth it... wait till winter, you'll pick yer shit right back up anyways.... i'm dealing with some super gay knee shit right now and it's partly because i didn't take it easy enough right away..

Don't push it!!!!!!! It feels ready to go after about 4 months, but it really isn't truly good til about 7 months out. I tore my ACL last season and 6 months out tried to ski again, and the first day back out I re-tore it. Ive missed this entire season because of it.

6 months wasn't enough time to heal/rehab? You would think you could get back sooner with rigorous rehab. I really need to figure out a way to take it easy.

do not do it, i just tore mine and am going to take it easy and do all my rehab the best i can so i can get back for next season

No big deal. u can totally ski 100% by four mos. I dunno y u even got sergery. u shud hav jus rehab dat shit super good an got your nee super strong. since ur a good athlete, u dont rilly need acl neway.

yeah you really do need it, i know that you can live without one but that is for people who are not atheletes. Even if you strengthen your hamstrings/quads/calves it can still be unstable whille being active. Also w/o an acl the likelyhood of hurting your knee more or again goes up.

it all depends on what kind of surgery you get and how seriously you take your physical therapy.  i got a quadruple-stranded hamstring graft and was hitting rails at 4 and half months and dropping little cliffs and hitting small-medium park jumps at 5 months, and my knee is just fine.  but once you go back, you have to work your way back into things because your knee won't be used to taking the impact and it will hurt at first until all that scar tissue gets broken up.
