Abortion, pro or con?

I"m pro choice, I had a pregnancy scare with my girlfriend in highschool (her period came thank god) but in the 2 weeks that we were scared shitless, all I could tell her is that I'd support her either way, yeah having my dreams stepped all over by a baby would suck but aborting it is a huge decision, it shouldn't be a no questions asked type of thing, it really is preventing a life from happening.

Reading One day it'll all make sense, by Common, he writes a letter to his 2 children that he had aborted, it actually had me teared up reading his regret, but he knew it was the choice he and the girls had to make at that point in time.

I personally think that after the 3rd abortion you should be sterilized, there's no reason a girl should get knocked up 5 times and kill them all, or if a guy knocks up 5 different women that don't keep them he should have a mandatory vasectomy.

holy shit read the fucking thread! this is not a strictly religious issue. if you consider the fetus a living, self aware, conscious human then there are obvious moral problems with aborting it, doesn't matter if you're religious or not. at some point during the pregnancy, the baby does become all of these things, its just a matter of knowing when it goes from a simple set of growing cells and tissue and becomes human. i personally think that most fetuses in the first trimester (perhaps not late in the first trimester) do not have a conscious, and are ok to abort. after that it starts to look a lot more like murder, not to mention its more dangerous for the woman. legal abortions are a stabilizing factor for society as well, and making them illegal only encourages "back alley" abortions which are dangero....

.......

you've been trolling me this whole time you fucker.

semi decent idea but take it one step further. If you wanna party and get knocked up. Get those tubes tied, both parties. Then there is no need for abortions, and people can sleep around and do whatever they want /thread

the discussion should be more about defining from which point on its a human being.

i think everybody who thinks that it should be illegal to abort within the first few weeks is a nutjob.

than, i would say the same for people who think it should be legal even on the last 1 to three weeks.

(lets leave the rape, mother health problems, balblabla cases out of the picture).

there is a certain point in time where the baby becomes a fully functional human being and not a blob of cells. maybe you could argue when that is (heart-beat, brain/memory, movement, fully-developed), but its certainly not 1 minute after conception and not 1 minute before birth.

BOTTOM LINE: fuck off if you think that it should be illegal to abort even after 1 second.

fuck off if you think it should be legal to abort in the last 1-3 weeks.

~4 weeks

to me thats not a sentient human being and i wouldnt feel too bad about talking my gf into an abortion earlier than that.

~32 weeks

i would say that aborting here is pretty questionable and close to murder. i am not saying that the doctor or the mother are murderers, just that i would feel like one if i talked my gf into an abortion at that stage.

No, not at all. Even though I do not agree with their decision, I still respect it. I'm not going to freak out and preach my beliefs on someone.

What I like about pro choice is that its up to you to decide, If pro lifers dont want to have abortions, Its not like the pro choicers are hiding in the bushes with bent up coat hangers trying to abort their babies.

on the other hand, pro lifers want to do the exact opposite and intrude on peoples lives that they dont know in any way shape or form.

Now, I personally feel that if you're mature enough to have sex, you're mature enough to have a child, but I'm also pro choice as hell when it comes to just about anything. You have just as much right to shove a shaft of stainless steel through your septum as you do of getting a tattoo on your face as you do in having your foot removed 'just for funsies'
And when it comes to Abortion, I feel like it's at least enough involved in that realm of what a person decides to do with her body to make it morally right to go about the process.
Yes, there's something "alive" in there, and a potential fully developed human being. I understand that. However, the choice to abort or not to abort not a decision that can be made by anyone but that person who has to make that decision.
I feel like far too many of the people who are anti-abortion are either men who would never have to go about carrying a fetus for 9 months, or are just people in general who have never been put in a situation where they've had to make a seriously tough call on something that has to do with their future, much less the decision to have a child or not.
These same people go about calling those involved with performing abortions, or those who choose to have one, murderers, and whores, and overall sinners who are going to hell.

I feel if those same people could either A: put down the bible for 20 minutes, or B: even remotely relate to the situation that someone who's in limbo might be in.. they would realize that their attempts to dictate someone else's decisions about what they do with their body and their 'potential child' has nothing to do do with them, and they should just, simply, shut the FUCK UP.
Yes, abortions are a gruesome procedure, and it's really kinda 'fucked up' when you think about the whole process... and if you are highly religious and feel it's immoral in general, that's fine. But ultimately, it's not up to you, and ultimately, it's better than the alternative...

Even if it was deemed "Illegal" in this country... You think that would change anything? People are gonna fuck. People will get pregnant. It happens. Abstinence is not a reality - humans are simply WAY TOO HORNY. It's biological, so get over it. Abortions are going to happen just like drug use will continue to happen, and I am 100% for offering this procedure, because without it, a lot more coat hangers and attempted miscarriages are going to kill pregnant women. Not to mention... a lot more orphans...

Now, I know I this is a bit slipping-slope, but...
-We don't need more child-abuse of orphans like what happened in Romania after the fall of Nicolae Ceausescu (He mandated a national policy making abortions illegal simply to increase the national workforce... and after the iron curtain fell, some sick things happened to kids - lots of child pronz and smut films.. kids were told to have sex with each other... torture each other... even kill each other. This same thing happens on a lesser extent in countries like Mexico - yes right south of us - and Chile - who has a national no-tolerance policy against it)

-We don't need mass orphanages like in china, where the only way out is to become cheap labour for Walmart bullshit...
-We don't need more orphans being taken in and forced to work for blood diamonds and become child soldiers in Africa... or be taken in by Al Qaeda and other extremist terrorist factions to murder innocent people...

... It sounds weird, but we need medically safe, and health-mandated abortion available in this world. The alternative is even more sickening.

boom and point. I agree almost completely.

I just don't understand the conservatives who don't want the government regulate anything, and yet if it falls out of line with their own morality, it suddenly can be regulated.

My moral side is against it. I feel like if you create life you should give it a chance. I know it's different when you are the girl so I will not bash/judge those for it like many do.

My American side says it is right though. I feel like it's a freedom and America is about freedoms so why take this one away.

My views have many holes in them but that's just how I personally view it.

im pretty neutral on this, at some point, it becomes murder, the issue needs to be when it can be considered a living breathing THINKING, human. now if you can abort it before the fetus has any sort of ability to think, then fine.

the only reason i would be against abortion, is the lack of discipline and responsibility associated with abortion. when abortion becomes perfectly acceptable, normal, and easy to do, you are going to have an insane amount of people being careless, even more shitty, and even more irresponsible than they already are. when we have gotten to the point where we can say "fuck it dont wear a condom, we can just kill the fetus" you know society has become fucked.

and personally, id rather grow up in a shitty home, with shitty parents, starving half the time. and having a horrible childhood, than not have the chance to live at all.

in some ways i feel like abortion should be illegal just because people need to fucking sack up and be responsible for their actions. yet i also feel like people should be able to do whatever the hell they want with THEIR body, so long as its still their body they are doing it to.

So, if we de-legalize it, and a desperate woman goes about a dirty "back-alley" abortion, and then dies... or... has issues during childbirth due to attempted miscarriage and dies...

To what volume is this better than the 'murder' folks speak of.

I think we must go back, like I said, and see this from a realistic point of view, that people are going to have sex, get pregnant, feel desperate, and choose abortion. The end.

Save the ones we have, man. That's all I'm saying.

if a woman is irresponsible enough to get herself pregnant, and has to go about a "dirty back ally" abortion, and ends up dying, thats 100% her decision and her fault to put herself in that position. yes now you have two dead people, but the best you can do is try to crack down on and prevent anything like that from happening. the fact that someone can go have a ghetto abortion shouldnt determine whether or not abortion is legal.

Making abortions illegal is ridiculous, frankly. Let pro choice people CHOOSE not to have abortions and women who cannot raise a child at the time CHOOSE to have one.

The real problem isn't with the abortions themselves. There are plenty of acceptable circumstances for abortions. The problem comes from pro-life people who are interfering with the lives of others. The pro-life protests and stuff are just as ridiculous as if pro abortion people were trying to make EVERY pregnancy get aborted.

Basically arguing this topic is pointless and everyone will have a conflicting opinion. If you disagree with abortions, do not get one. If you really think you need one, get it early, and hopefully you made the right choice. The key thing is that people have a choice so they can get it when they need it.

Haha it really is ridiculous.

WE BELIEVE EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE AT LIFE, KILLING IS EVIIILLLLLL

...bombs an abortion clinic and murders a bunch of innocent people.

fycking phone, I wasnt done. I say that as a pro-choice person. Nothing wrong with being pro-life, if thats what works for you. It just aggravates me when people try to cram their beliefs down my throat. I dont know what I'd do if i got pregnant today, but i do know i'd at least consider an abortion. And if I wete doing that, I sure as hell wouldnt want people pressuring me one way or another.

This reads as if you're talking about a heroin/hardcore drug addict... not a pregnant person... Not sure about you, but I don't believe they are entirely parallel.

What do you suppose we do to "crack down on and prevent anything like that from happening"? Pool public funds into an "Abortion Enforcement Agency" who goes around patrolling at night trying to bust people in the act of abortions?

Does the fact that someone can go skiing and get really hurt while sending it off a 60 foot jump, mean that they should be refused medical care just because it's 'irresponsable'?

I'd have to speak for everyone here, and say no they should not be refused...

I'm not saying it should be used for contraception, but I am saying it's an integral reason to make it legal to offer the procedure on demand.

I can't believe there aren't more people advocating anal in this thread. It's awesome in every way and you can let her keep the kid tickets all day with no danger of babies showing up to ruin the party.

If she's a religious nut, you can appeal to her "no/less sex before marriage" because if it's up the ass, Jesus gives you a pass- everybody knows that.

If she says it hurts, just remind her you don't feel anything but awesome and that's all that matters.

bahahahahahaha

still kinda lolwut. it's not about being mature enough to have a child, it's being in a situation where you're capable of raising a child. unless you've got a stable job and a stable future, i don't think you should be having kids, but i'm not going to wait until i'm at that point to have sex.

My point behind that if youre going to have sex, you should know and understand the consequences ahead of you already, and at least be somewhat mentally prepared for what to do in case of hell breaking loose. What I stated didn't really make that clear at all of what I meant haha.

i hate that i can't really refute your argument, but i know that i'm going to continue to have sex knowing that my life would be ruined if i had a kid right now

Why does everyone always associate abortions with rape? There are several statistics that show around only 1% of rape cases result in pregnancies. I mean sure, I understand that it's a valid argument to say, "well what if you were raped?," when trying to make a point but in my opinion it seems like a pretty weak one.

Mr. Gaga, that was in no way directed specifically at you...just something I've seen throughout this thread and so I quoted you.

...Does it really matter the percentage or amount of pregnancies attributed to rape? It still happens. Point is moot.

you're going to be like that? really? it would obviously affect me if i "became a dad," why should i not be allowed to mention that just because it's harder on the woman?

You can mention it all you want... I'm going back to what I was initially being quoted on, which had nothing to do with lives being 'ruined'.
