Abolishing Pets

But I'm still not trying to make a controversial thread, mind you, just regurgitating and reinstating what other people have said on a matter that touches and moves me.

you pretty much made a controversial thread. people would die for their pets, it's a serious thing

What don't you understand about me being a pet owner myself, and yet making this thread about the opinions of Finnish ZXoo keepers and how they affect my opinion on things?

Everything is not black and white, not even with species being carried over many millenia alongside man as helpers and pets.

bullshit.

"Abolishing pets" need I say more? theres tons of ways to word this, and make it less provocative, instead you decided to unleash your creative writing masterpieces on NS to stir the pot. (not saying its bad mind you, just that you cant claim "not controversial")

Great thread topic. I don't think the concept of pet ownership is as black and white as "Do we stop, or do we continue domesticating animals", but rather, how we treat them and what rights we end up allowing them to keep in regards to cohabitation. I firmly believe that my kitteh and I are great friends and I love the hell out of him, but I do not own him, nor do I force him to stick around. He is free to come and go as he pleases, but should know that there is always a comfortable home here, with food always available if he should need it. I'm in no way affiliated or care for PETA's viewpoints, but animals should have the right to disavow forced living situations and unethical breading practices on the grounds of human decency. We should not be manipulating animals the way we do.

I agree.

I posted another article on animal behavior and their relations to human nature a few weeks back, in my threds if interested...

It's just the way that many people see animals, or food itself, that irritates me. The 'Abolishing Pets' title is a straight translation from the article that I first started this thread based on.

It could also be considered as "Can pets become obsolete?"

or "Are pets even needed anymore in the modern world?"

Shortened... "Abolishing pets... as they are today."

Maybe I can't, it's a very hot potato like I said in the OP, but looking at pets on a global scale...

Some think it's OK to have monkeys as pets or caged "friends"; some think it's OK to go along with breeding and holding endangered species in their cages and aquariums.

Some think it's OK to breed, fatten and eat dogs, mice, rats, and other species we deem unsatiable to eat - something the Western society has forgotten with their love for meat and the industrialiced process that will cancer and cripple a large amount of the human race until we put a stop on it... at leadt for a while.

If someone can honestly argue that a life in Africa, about to be demolished by famine is more important than that of a dog's, cat's or any other pet's, they are fucking deluded.

No matter how much you love or have loved your pet, we are still a species that places itself above other species, and to think that one of another, lesser species doesn't matter as much as one of our own, while arguable, does not not change the fact that it's a very weird and unnatural way of thought.
