Ableton/mixer help needed!

So I just invested in a cheap midi pad/mixer (akai lpd8) and I've been trying to set it up with ableton suite 8 as a mixer in order to distort and mess around with tracks and use some of the lpd8's functions.

If anyone could lend me their two cents that would be wonderful.

click midi mapping (top right), select what you want the keys/buttons/dials/whatever you want to be controlled on the pad, and boom.

and do you assign? I click something purlple and move the knob but nothing happens.

So how did you do it??Have the same problem with the purple but no assigning...

make sure your mixer is synced with ableton.

in the top right corner theres a button that says "midi". click it

everything then turns purple and then you click which thing you want and then press a pad or turn a knob that you want to assign that function to.
