Abandoned ski centers

yeah its kinda intresting

in central new york there is mystic mountain, they went out about 20 years ago, then there is some other one near there

scotch valley in upstate NY

it shut down like 10 years ago. Sucks, because its only 15 mins from my house, and the nearest mountain after that is another hour.

and we drive by it every time we go skiing

steeple chase neer rochester MN, and little swiss neer milwaukee closed this season. iv heard steeple chase is for sale. both of them are real small hills.

"candy mountain charlie." i so wannna go there.

There is an old ski hill near collingwood, Ontario right beside beaver valley and Talisman. itd be such a dope place to build an all extreme sports place the land is perfectly designed for it. It was up for a sale a few years ago and me and my buddies hiked it and thought about coming back in a few years and building the best park resort ever.

Mont Glen in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. It closed a few years ago, I remember skiing there while it was still open. The skiing should still be good there, the terrain is quite good, some people still hike to the top and ski down.

Newschoolers needs to buy one of these and have our own hill, it would be the craziest shit to happen in the ski industry and it would never die.

they look so forlorn and abandoned. There is some closed hill near Stephenville, Newfoundland, i've never seen it but I've heard people talk about it

everyone on here chip in like 50 bucks and turn it into like an all park mtn and anyone who donated money towards buying skiied free how sick would that be

I've heard rumors of Steeplechase being bought by Welch Village. There's also Mount Frontenac near Red Wing, but I'm pretty sure that's a golf course now.

i happened to come across one 1 mile from our cabin in PA while riding my dirtbike. its pretty crazy. its been abandoned for 50 years and everything was left like everybody just dissapeared. its incredibly spooky though because its all wood construction and past 50 feet in its dark even during the day. the strange thing is that every door in the place is held wide open and instead of cafeterias and restaurants theres like big fireplace rooms.

for some reason i cant get the pic up so ill just put up the lat lon so those of you with google earth can check it out.

frontenac was a golf course before too. they just got rid of the skiing.

that would be pretty cool of welch bought steeplechase. it could be a pretty nice place if it was managed right. steeplechase could be a really cool park oriented resort. i dont think welch does that great of a job with their own park tho (lack of jumps and shitty half pipe when built mainly).

theres one in between stratton and bromely too. don't know the name. we ski it on pow days and have snow mobile rides up. it's pretty fun

It is a cool site for lost ski areas in the North East. They encourage people to submit pictures or text of stuff that you know. I thought this little tidbit on New York was amazing in itself...................

"Due to demand and the fact that I now live in New York, we at NELSAP have decided to introduce lost New York areas to the site. New York is a huge undertaking in itself--we estimate that there are approximately 350 lost areas in New York alone! "

yeah they have like 600 in new england

They have added many more since the last time i looked at this site

i honestly can't think of any ski resort in scotland that won't be turning on it's lifts tommorrow. i live here too.

I live right near mystic mountain. Now people use it to mountain bike and drive their snowmobiles and atv's on. Some kid in ym school also lives at a old ski place but i dunno fi there are lifts up or anything.

does anyone have any experience skiing abandoned ski hills?

there are 2 near my house that i would love to hike up and ride down the powder

mont glen and mont echo in quebec.

God damn! Skiing would be so much cheaper if we had all those still! RIP Pilchuk. From what I've heard, it was a hella legit ski area.

at the mountain where I work, eldora, I found this abandoned run thats closed even when there's snow. at the bottom there is tons of old lift chairs and poles and machines and busses. it's like they just put all the old junk there instead of throwing it away. the wierd part is it's right off a well traveled run.

has anyone found anything like that at another mountain?

i've heard many many rumors of tupper opening up again, which would be really sick b/c i can't stand titus being the only option under an hour from school. i wonder what the REAL story with tupper is these days?
