A Website for Ski Knee Injury Prevention- www.ski-knee.com

For the past months I've taken on making this website as a side project.

Anyone who is involved with the ski industry knows how frequent knee injuries (ACL) are. But when working on graduating project during my masters I found there wasn't much information on ski knee injury prevention available to the public that was backed up with evidence.

So I've tried to create a website for skiers to educate them on the causes of knee injuries, how they occur while skiing and suggestions for exercises for their prevention. I still have lots to do on the site, and will be adding more and more layers. I hope that you find some of it useful.

Here it is...

Really nice website. Looks really good and is actually helpful. Check the prevention page thought there are some links that are not working on chrome.

Really clean professional site. Props man, might try some of this stuff out because nobody wants to blow a knee.

Thanks I appreciate that.

The 4 videos have worked with chrome for other people. Are you on a mac or pc?

I'm on pc. But they work now. I don't know why they didn't work yesterday

Just a little thing but the URLs are a little strange - it's like you repurposed them from another website? For example the risk factors page is labeled "our crew".

But content-wise this looks awesome. Any chance you'll expand it to include other common knee injuries?

Well done! I have some problems my self, what about adding a page for knee braces "Only the good ones" and what to do if you are having some problems already? like how to not make it worse. I like your idea, keep it up!

Ah yes you're right, it was a pre-made templete, I should change the URL.

Thanks!

Excellent suggestions, the braces is a really good idea. I am hoping to make a blog on the page that would be a great topic to explore.

As for those who are already having problems, I could explore that avenue as well. I guess the issue is, I would hate for those who may need health or medical assistance not seek a professional's opinion, because having a proper diagnosis is critical. That being said, providing on mountain suggestions for them could be a great addition.

I really appreciate the input and suggestions!

Also, yes. I would like to include other knee injuries down the road as well. Although in many situations there will be an overlap in the prevention exercises.

So youre recommending plyometric exercises without first determining your patients base level of strength, eh?

Absolutely not. If someone were my patient, I would conduct a full assessment and probably a couple weeks of exercises before I would progress to plyometrics. But for me to put all of this down, it would become a book on fitness training and progression. Which would be fairly time consuming, and I think might result in it being overlooked

These are samples of prevention exercises based on what evidence shows most effective. In terms of ACL prevention, plyometrics have demonstrated to be very useful. I guess I run some risks that these exercises could aggravate some peoples' knees, but from my experience, people want some sport specific exercises, otherwise they lose interest or don't see the need to do anything at all.

But you make a valid point, I do intend on adding more basic exercises.

IMO people are going to take a look at what you put up there and think that is the prehab and/or PT they should be following.

If this is just a simple class project, that's all well and good, but you are now marketing this website to a bunch of folks who know nothing about exercise science, and have very little common sense about it.

In terms of skiing (not crashing) I think the problem is due to today's ski designs.. go heartcarving instead.

Do people on 2 way scooters or segways complain of knee problems? Ever wondered why? It's a more natural position (the knee is a one-way joint designed to help people stand, not emulate windscreen washers.)
