A way to make everyones park better

As the parks grow in our country the amount of traffic in the parks is crazy, we need a solution. Im sure you are all familiar with the recent accident that happened in the Breck park. If not, a 33 year old doctor from Kansas(I think) who I’m guessing rides in the single digits every year, died after hitting a jump in the medium park. Last year the RCR mountains decided they would not have jumps anymore because of a huge lawsuit from an inexperienced rider who got hurt in one of their parks. These are just two of many accidents that happen from inexperienced and uneducated riders (gapers Joeys whatever you want to call them).

As funny and crazy we all think it is think if the girl in the “switch seven little girl tap” would have been 2 feet lower on the landing. He would have killed a 5 year old girl. Would it have been his fault? No not at all. Would he be able to live with what he did? Probably not.

Not only do the gapers get hurt because of their actions. There have been many times when a park rat will get hurt because of the actions of someone else. Last year I watched as a friend was dropping into an average sized table landed a smooth 5 before he could turn his head to see where he was going he collided with a mid aged woman who felt the best place on the mountain to stand would be just at the bottom of the landing.

Not only can they be dangerous but they are just annoying. After calling your drop and doing everything else right just to drop in an have a random hero come out of nowhere, snake your drop and hitting the side of the jump sucks.

There is a solution… Its easy, It has been done at select mountains and I’m sure you have all wanted one at your mountain. Park passes! The only mountain I know in the East that has one in use is Stratton. The last time I was there it was simple, Go sit in a hut and listen to a member of the park staff talk for about 20 minutes then your good to go for the day.

My idea…Why not try to get a nationwide park pass? Sure it most likely wouldn’t work so well the first few years but eventually I could see it catching on. Almost every mountain has the “Smart Style” program with the same signs, same messages and everything. They could help bring a change. Why not have a system where you could register with your own home mountain park staff, that once your in the system you would be good for the year no matter what mountain you go to. When you buy a ticket just say that you are in the system for their park pass, show your ID or other another pass that has the park pass on it and you would be good. It would have to be certified by the “smart style” or some other organization. If an individual Mountain wants extra instruction then fine but you would have to at least have the national certification.

What do you think? If NS got behind this I think it could help bring a change. Its hard to tell if it would do anything but why not try. It cant hurt.

Oh yeah, i know my thoughts jump around alot and some of it probably isnt great on grammer and all that but you can get the idea....

I think this could work... Let me sit on this a little longer to formulate my thoughts on it. Good idea.

word, my mountain briefly considered getting rid of the small park it had due to insurance reasons. even though a park pass wouldnt really work at the small mountains, its def a good idea for the larger ones to consider.

word, ive got the stratton and jiminy peak park pass. why do i need two? id rather pay like $5 than have 10 park passes.

I think that is a very smart idea, with the rfid technology that resorts are using and testing at the moment it would be very feasible to have an automatic gate system set-up. This all costs money, but I think if the price was not overinflated most people who enjoy the park scene would be willing to pay. I guess we will see how the industry responds to the technology available and the current legal scene.

so hard to make happen, but it would be a great improvement. I dropped in for a box the other day only for this dude from who knows where to come flying in and straight it. agggggggg.

Here in Washington at Snoqualmie they implemented park passes... You have to sit through a 5 minute video and then talk about it for 5 more minutes and then if your 18 years of age you can a sign a piece of paper and get your park pass, if not you have to have a parent sign a waiver and bring it back later. The funny thing behind the whole park pass thing is that it has so many flaws... They don't even have anybody checking the passes at the entrances of the park. I'm sure you could go a whole day without them checking to see if you have a park pass. And lastly all you have to do to get a park pass is either pay or go get one which isn't too complicated for a gaper to do...

word, i saw a ton of gapers and people being snaked at whiteface on saturday, i almost landed on a little kid off the second jump.

so many racers and familys cutting between the jumps and skiing across the landings

at the end of the season a couple years ago there was a park meeting.

the people that ride all agreed that that should be done just so it wouldntbe such a pain in the ass.

the plan really bacckfired because they set up a little five minute video with a ten question quiz (retard could do it) not only that the ski program instructers were told to take all of their kids to get the quiz.

so there was absolutly no difference in busiest and completely backfired

FUCK GAPERS

My park has a park pass, it helps sometimes, but one time me and this guy I was with had to completely yell at some bitch ass cunt ass hoe lady and her little kids. We taught them some new words, I wanted to shoot em with my glock that I carry when I ride but I was out of ammo cause I spent all my money on crack and 40's.

Last year they had one at mountain creek NJ and it worked amazing. Filled out a quick test, paid five bucks and were good for the season. There were always people up top checking and there were ridiculous amounts of people (gapers), that would head over there, find out there is a park pass and then say forget it.

However this year they moved the park to an entire different mountain (still connected). And they decided not to do park passes this year. Now random old ladies and parents with small children come and its just dangerous. So many people I know have gotten hurt and I'm always scared of hitting someone on the landing.

So yea, I think this is a great idea and I want my mountain to have one.

the only semi legit responce ive gotten from my home mt (mt snow, vt) is that they dont want/cant limit what there customers can ski/ride. but then again, look at races such as "nastar" and it would be free, so i dont see a problem with park passes, they should be required for any park to ensure a safer environment.

Mountain Creek is dealing with an absolute perfect example of before passes, then a pass system and now no pass system. There are hundreds of avid park people there who can speak with first hand experience of the differences - in reverse!

that's why you gotta watch out for skiers with fanny packs..........fits a model 26 nicely

or take a hint from the surfing world: if someone doesn't belong, you tell them. if they disagree, you beat the shit outta them right there in the lineup.

There needs to be some sort of obstacle to deter retards from entering. Like a rope swing or something crazy. but in reality, a set of stairs that are required to be climbed in order to enter the park.

i feel bad for ya homies dat get snaked by dem gapers and dem families where dey dont belong ya feel. ya cuz sunday river aint eva crowded i aint gotta worry bout that sheet ya know aint no one in tha way and if they is u can see day ass and aint no one stupid it just work good ya feel, cuz we aint deal wit no foo ass bitch fucks at da mountain ya dig, cuz i dig ya feel.

that is a pretty good idea

ski butternut in mass. butternut sucks so the only trail that i ever go on is the park... but they have a park pass system set up, and you have to pay like 10 buck for the season, but it is pointless and gay because the "gappers and joeys" still go to the park cause they want to be able to akcess the 'whole mountain" so they buy a pass for 5 year old "jonny" and they are back in the park, and the whole park pass thing did absolutly nothing

and the racers that race though the park is realll annoying too "we dot jib your race, so dont race our park"

just because you have a pass doesnt mean that you should be in the park there should be an age limit or skill level that you have to fafill or somthing like that, cause if just anyone can get one then haveing one does nothing... just a thought

Allow me to enlighten you on my experience over Christmas break.

I was sitting out of the way kind of on the side of a hill cuz i pulled something in my back and i see a family of two parents and 3 kids ranging from probably 5-11 skiing through the park. The little boy who was probably 5 went right through the landing of a double barrel rail where you could not see the landing until you were about 3/4 done with the rail. His kid snowplows through the landing and proceeds to stand at the end of the next box. i decide to say something.........conversation goes as follows

Me- "hey im sorry but you guys can't be doing that in here because someone is going to get hurt

Dad- "yeah but the downhill skier always has the right of way so it doesn't matter

Me- "yes but coming over those features you can't see the landings until it is to late and downhill skier haveing the right of way isnt going to matter when they cant see you.

Dad- "you better watch what you are saying before yo get your ass beat down"

Me- "im not trying to start anything here im just trying to keep the park safe"

Mom- "you need to learn some respect young man"

Me- "im just going to tell ski patrol"

Dad- "im gonna get you"

The man then chased me down to the lift at keystone and i got on ahead of him. at the top i talked to park crew and ski patrol and im pretty sure h left. But he FUCKING chased me. It was the gayest shit ever because he was like a 6'2" full grown man and here i was a 5'8" 15 year old with no poles.

moral of story- park passes= NEEDED imo

he was a LOT bigger than me. i figured though worst case he beats my ass and i get to sue him for assault. but not having poles definitely made me not want to fight

True story. Something definitetely needs to happen though. like in Jons video blog, he almost decapitates some dumbass sitting at the landing of a rail. It would be great to see resorts take more initiative in making their parks safer with park passes and enforced rules, instead of just canceling them.

he was a LOT bigger than me. i figured though worst case he beats my ass and i get to sue him for assault. but not having poles definitely made me not want to fight

i second with this guy and quailman. mountain creek is so dangerous right now, its crazy. its seriously unbelievable how much better the park pass worked last year. now its a huge war on the mountain

that doesn't always mean he is an aggressive fighter. and if worse comes to worse you can always kick the fuck out of him with you boots

and still charge that fucker with assault

weve got a park pass system at Wachusett. it works awesome, turns the majority of the gapers away. the park is noticably safer and stays in better condition with the park pass.

I wish they would let people know that this isn't how parks work. It seems like every time there is a confrontation between a gaper and someone in the park it reduces to that.

Also, park passes are such a good idea. I'm really surprised more places don't use 'em.

i think its worth it but most mountains cannot afford to have somebody checking if people have passes especially if they have multiple parks

Well all of this is fine and good, everyone here knows that if done right a park pass will work amazing. But we need some sort of backing to get the program started...A bunch of kids talking about how sick it would be on NS isnt going to do shit. I have no idea how to start it, i have the feeling if you could get one region started on it, it would spread. Even if someone could link the park passes that are already inforced it would be huge.

I wanted to wright this after getting snaked by 3 different people today, Its the middle of the week and half the mountian was deserted.

yeah well just because of this i am gonna try to talk to the park crew at my mountain to see if they are even thinking about it. because it would be a good idea

All you need is video of noobs in the park almost getting wiped out or getting wiped out. In a busy park, the occurances of people doing falling leaf patterns down the back side of jumps is frequent. Set up a camera on one busy saturday afternoon and I would think you should have all the backing that you would need including people who should be hitting the jumps wiping out hard.

and that is the point, if you can capture near misses and nasty wipe outs that quick, how long before something traumatic. Doesn't burton offer a park pass program that is already packaged? Think they would pay for an attendant or risk higher premiums?

i think that the park passes in washington (stevens and snoqualmie) work super well because it is definatley a pain do get them, so unless you really want to you cant get it. (it mainly keeps families away)

they dont work at all. well at least at my mountain we still get little fuckers thinking they run shit standing on the jumps. we just eaither bitch them out or jump over them

it would keep some of the asian tourist snowboarders that cant ride in a straight line for 5 feet out of the park, good idea
