A waste of $20k?

Remember back when Matt Margetts asked for $20 000 to go to Sochi? Needless to say, members of the NS community were split, with some defending Marg and others calling him a piece of shit for publicly accepting financial support when others aparently weren't. I am on neither side, although I did find it kind of odd that Matt said he was "the second highest ranked pipe skier in Canada, but was on the Olympic B team." so to say. How in the holy fuck are you the second best pipe skier in Canada but are not financial backing from sponsors?

I've also heard that Matt had plenty of support from sponsors, and the money was a completely unnecessary thing for him to ask for.

So, what's up with that? Did Matt really need the approximate 241785.46 pesos he asked for? Is this thread gonna start another shit storm? How many swedish babes did/will Matt and Riddle double team? These questions must be answered.

tl;dr lel olympics omg hur

some of the shit you guys come up with its mindblowing

plot twist: the money was actually for a photoshoot so he could win sexiest man in freeskiing by freeskiier magazine

Who gives a shit?

Matt went to the olympics because he could, he needed to get $20k so he could afford to go. Look at other sports, the olympics is the dream. Just being there is a life achievement for many people. If Matt decided that that was how he saw the olympics, that's his decision. We could all bitch about how the olympics, or even comp skiing for that matter, aren't 'core'; but in the end that's only our opinions and we have to respect the fact that other people see it very differently.

Um

So Marg made that plea or whatever prior to him blowing his ACL. He still skiied without it and put down a run in shitty conditions that was slightly underscored. He could very easily have gone to finals. Then who knows what happens. I'm pretty pumped for him representing his country and landing a run in those circumstances.

So, fuck this thread, is I guess the long and short of it.

Exacly my thought when he failed his last run. lel.

But did he actually raise the money? Or did his spnsr's come around?

I kind of agree. Not sure what the added costs are for being an athlete. The people were talking about somebody fundraising to bring their family over. Was something like 15k to bring 3 people over. Must be tough living in a shack on ramen for the olympics.

But like I said I've never been to the olympics don't know shit about it or what things cost. Specifically what athletes have to put up besides just getting over there and having a place to stay.

Matt killed it, sadly he had a few mistakes.

He did this with no ACL, and skied he's heart out. This thread is nothing but a joke.
