A Trick Guide: The difference between bio, cork, d-spin, misty, rodeo and the ambiguous underflip

McConkey does a few in SM2, I just checked. I might try and take a few clips from that movie and post them, CR does some textbook bio spins in that movie as well.

if anyone read freeskier like 5 years ago when vinnie was killin the underflip they would realize that it is a 90 turn lincon 90 degree turn to sw landing. it helps if you thro a kang in there

A job well done. That makes a lot of sense. I think Winn should read this because we always fight abut this matter. Thanks, you are a savour.

wow, what a gay thread. go do your own tricks and fuck what they are called. NS has really, really gone downhill with gaypers. jesus crist. "ambiguous underflip." hahahaha.

by the way, if you do want to see a textbook underflip go watch shon howard in volume 7 in the superpark section. his name isnt listed, but he has a blue coat with yellow sleaves. he ownes the trick even more than vinny does.

word. the clips of rodeos you had there all looked like mistys to me. they were basically the same trick. and all the clips of d-spins looked like rodeos, except one of em. but whatever, it doesnt really matter what you call the trick as long as you can throw it. rodeo is a cork where you just go more off axis and your feet go more over head. and a misty is the same to a bio. and a d-spin is a trick that changes its axis from cork to rodeo to straight over head. at least thats what i call the tricks, prolly wrong but it makes sense to me so ill stick with it.

In the rodeo video's, the rider definently leans back, while in the misty, the trick is thrown forwards off the lip. They look different to me...

As for D-spins, yes, I see what you mean. A D-spin is essentially a cork 3 the first rotation, followed by a even more corked 3 (so corked that you get completely inverted). People also describe these as cork 3's to backflips, and they sorta are. I'm sticking with the definition I have here, as I think it best ID's the trick. As for throwing these tricks, well, thats another thread entirely.

Revisions are on thier way, expect additions and editing by this evening, if not sooner.

Ok, here are the revisions. I wish I could edit my first post and replace it with this, but oh well. Enjoy:

Ok, revised through your comments and suggestions, this is Trick Guide 1.2.

Before reading this, I’d just like you to know that this was my best attempt at this, and that it took me two hours to get this together. I have a huge archive of good NS video’s on my computer, but its damn hard finding the original pages in the video section of NS.

Another cool note here too: These are all video’s from NS members! Way to go guys, some of these video’s are damn classy. I kinda had fun making this because I got to see how much talent our members have. We rock! Check out the video’s below if you don’t believe me.

(Disclaimer: If you see yourself in a video that I’ve used and want to have it removed (for some reason I really cannot imagine, you did post it for the public) then just PM me, I’ll talk to a Mod and get it removed for you.)

Thanks, enjoy what I’ve come up with:

Cork

A cork is a off axis spin that is leaned back, but so that the rider does not go inverted at any point. It is a popular trick, and many pro’s and amateurs do these very well.

D-spin

Set the same way a cork is, but is more leaned back. A d-spin is essentially any cork where you become inverted. In all of these videos note how the feet will go above the head. Evan Raps does these very well, also see Mike Douglas.

Rodeo

A rodeo is not an off axis spin like a cork, d-spin or bio. It is a spin with a FULL inversion, aka, the riders feet at some point in the spin go directly OVER his or her head. See Mark Abma in Yearbook for a very sick and slowed down Rodeo 7. Also, Mike Wilson rules at these, see Ready, Fire, Aim for some huge ones.

http://media.nscdn.com/uploads/member/videos/1149449723Seth%20Rodeo.wmv

Flatspin

Flatspins are very close to rodeos. They are thrown almost the exact same, but the difference is that in a flatspin, the rider never gets completely inverted. Heres a way to think about it: A line extending through you from your head to your toes when you stand up. In a rodeo, this line ends up completely inverted at some point (although your feet can be somewhere else, like leaned back in a tail or a mute or something) while in a flatspin, this line never reaches true vertical. The line between what is a rodeo and a flatspin is understandably very blurry, especially when one considers tweaked grabs and such.

Underflips

An underflip can easily be mistaken for a rodeo or a misty. It’s an odd rotation: a 90 degree turn off the lip, followed by a lincoln loop up the hill (head faces jump followed by feet) to another 90, landing backwards. See niklas karlstrom in teddybear crisis up the step-up, or in X off of a small snowbank. Vincent Dorion also does these well.

These do look almost exactly like misty’s. Searching on NS, I could only find one video of an overflip, and it wasn’t that great of an example. We need your video!

Kangaroo Flip

Jon Olsson, Sweedish wonderboy, pulled off this trick at the Jon Olsson Invitational this year (2006), blowing the other simple spins out of the water. also, besides double corks, which where he corks a rotation then corks again going inverted, wilson has invented the wilson flip, which is a double underflip.

corey v. flat 7

lol, love how there's perfect definitions and yet some still in this thread post absolutely wrong answers with pride, not even getting the axis right, let alone a small thing lol ... I mean with some people's retarded posts they might as well say "this 360 degree spin trick is called an 840 flatspin". If you Think you know what you're talking about you don't. Watch more videos, post so-called 'answers' (which are actually just stabs in the dark) less.

ANYWAYS !!! on with my real post that is MUCH more constructive lol. Here's a good one that IS NOT widely defined, (and i would appreciate all those with an opinion, not to share it at all thus saving confusion, thsi is for anyone who KNOWS the answer)... this will help define axis' when the switch variable is thrown in. Lets define a backflip as a straight up flip in which the first 1/4 of the flip renders your back facing the ground and a front flip as the first 1/4 of the flip where your face faces the ground. Simple stuff. A Switch flip now, where your first 1/4 of the flip puts your back facing the ground is A. a switch back flip, or B. a switch front flip??

I for one, call that a switch back flip because i see a backflip, duh ... however i know some that argue that because your head goes downhill and not uphill it is thusly a switch front. Now, even tho i think those people are retarded lol, i could be wrong and thoguht it would be nice if clarified for all. (and also partly because if i hear a switch rodeo called a switch misty one more time im gonna shit on the coats)
