THERE WILL PROBABLY BE SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD. DON'T READ THIS AND GET PISSED OFF, I GAVE YOU GUYS FAIR WARNING

Since people got sick of those of use who take our fandom to the next level in the GOT thread, here's where we can discuss the books.

I'll start things off, what do you guys think of the plot deviations that mainly occured in the second and third seasons of the show thus far? I am really enjoying the development of Reek, wasn't expecting that stuff at all.

really want to read these books before i watch the show, because i like books, but they are just so damn long

I highly recommend it. Even though they're long as fuck, they fly by, especially the books that cover stuff the show hasn't gotten to yet. I read the paperback versions of them first and then re-read them in pdf and having them on the computer was great cause every night when I'd get online to check stuff I'd read a few chapters

Who do you most enjoy reading about? Personally I think Arya is super fun to read about, especially when she gets to braavos

I really enjoyed Arya's parts. Theon/Reek's parts were pretty good in the 5th book, and I liked Cersei's sections in the 4th book (judge me all you want, the bitch is baaad but I love her) and Brienne

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT

I AM so curious to know what happens to Jon Snow.....

I wouldnt put it past RR to kill him

MAJOR SPOILERS HERE TOO

Fucking hell, right??!?!?! Dammit George, if you get heart disease and die before the next book I'm gonna be so upset. Also, I thought Brienne was hanged by Catelyn's band at the end of the 4th book, but then Jamie leaves w her at the end of the 5th? Hmmmmm...

oh man when they shave her and make her walk through kings landing naked. that was intense. that's another storyline i'm interested to see play out, cersei's trial by combat

Oh derfernertly(lol). She got shafted into using a shitty kingsgaurd knight right? I was so pumped when Jaime was all like, naw fuck y'all and didn't help her.

I was utterly confused and angry when I read that. I want to smack that fucker, I mean what about the whole conversation with Aemon when Robb went south originally? Daft cunt.

I also love reading Arya's POV chapters. She's got my vote for the Iron Throne.

shafted? as i recall ser loras was replaced by some dude that qyburn chose and they haven't revealed his identity but they've alluded to him being someone who has died already. They call him Ser Robert Strong and it sounds like he could be made from the corpse of the Mountain and some other people. And he doesn't speak because according to qyburn he took a vow of silence until all of the queen and king's enemies were eliminated.

Haven't read all the books yet, but there's something I want to know...

Does Jamie Lannister learn to fight with his left hand?

when he was fighting gregor clegane all i could think of was the guy in a princess bride. you killed my father, now you die

Does anyone here buy into the theory that Jon Snow in not Ned Stark's bastard, but actually the child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen?

I could see it. There is so much mystery surrounding his origins and RR Martin certain alludes to something along those lines

I hated how him and ser arys oakenheart were introduced as badasses but then both die in battle. If Briene and Jamie die in vain, I'm out.

It seems like RR Martin has no issue offing strong male leads. But have you noticed how he just can't seem to get rid of the girls?

Predictions for the finale next week?

- Bran/Jojen/Meera or Sam meet coldhands?

- I think they end it with Lady Stoneheart. I would be really down if they ended the show, then after the previews there is just a 15-20 second clip of her.

Other Ideas?

Ramsay Snow reveal hopefully and also the news that Balon is dead. They still have to cast Victorian and Euron, those guys are both BAMFs as well.

I think Sam meeting coldhands, idk if Lady Stoneheart will be until next season. Maybe if they want the finale to have a bang they'll off Joffrey, but that might not be til next season too

Yeah, It's tough because a lot of shit happens right after the RW. Joffery and Lady Stoneheart are both immediately after. I know Stoneheart doesn't happen until the epilogue of the next one, but she is brought back 4 or 5 days after. I think they'll probably show Nymeria pulling her out or berric or something.

Yea I forget how the show follows the actual timeline, not the skewed one from the books. I thought the RW was gonna be the finale though, so now I'm super intrigued as to what they saved for that

I predict Arya spending the entirety of 6 honing her skills, and returning to westeros in 7 to rain down bloody vengeance on every name she's been saving in her memory for years.

Heres some thoughts on the Jon situation. It may just be easier to read if you follow the links. It all fascinates me a lot.

So if you've read the book it appears that Jon Snow has died. When i read this i flipped out i mean this guy has been my favorite charcter thoughout the whole series. So i've decided that he is NOT dead and this is why.

First. I am with the school of thought that Jon is not Ned's Bastard but instead the son of Prince Rhaegar Targayen and Ned's sister Lyanna Stark. Therefore a Taragayen and a Stark way to badass of a blood-line kill off.

Some things that support this are Rhaegar clearly had intent to be with Lyanna,

When Sansa claims Arya is a bastard because she looks like Jon Snow Cat tells Sansa that she looks like Lyanna (Arya and Jon are described as looking alike).

At the end of Robert's rebellion there is a battle that reasons are not disclosed (protecting the Taragayen Heir???) that ended with Ned and Howland Reed being the only surivors watching Lyanna die and Ned made an secret promise to her. (Hide Jon??)

Second. I understand that he was stab 4 times and didn't feel anything but cold on the last one. However people have been stabbed 20 times and survived before, it never states that he was stabbed in the vital organ, before the giant distracts everyone smashing around with that "club".

(As a commenter on the EW web site pointed out, Jon's wound is described as "SMOKING" in the cold air - note: not "steaming," which would seem to be a very deliberate word choice - and Bowen Marsh's tears are SALTY.

So what do we know about SALT and SMOKE? ) (not from me but a good point)

Third. Melisandre. When she tries to search the flames for signs of Stannis being Azor Ahai, she only sees Jon Snow. Plus we have seen other other servents of the red god resurecct people, it it has not been confirmed or denied that she has this ability.

Fourth. Other times when we have had the charcter whoes POV we are currently reading from "dies" (BRAN, CAT or THEON), they aren't really dead. Now if the POV charcter sees someone else die (when Cat saw Robb) that person has stayed dead. So Jon"died" from his own POV i think means he's not dead.

I think Jon will become the rider of Viserion who is also all white with red eyes.

Firstly, the question of who is Jon Snow's mother needs to be answered. For those who are aware of Ned Stark's unquestionable honor, the mere thought of him bringing home a bastard after Robert's rebellion is kind of a big deal. Like a really big deal. The name of his mother is not given, yet throughout the first book Ned is haunted in his dreams about his last encounter with his sister Lyanna while she was on her death bed. The phrase "promise me Ned" comes up several times. What could this promise be exactly? Personally, I think that Lyanna asked Ned to look after her child... that child being no other than Jon. But if that's the case... why the shame? Why the secrecy? The next question that comes to mind is who is Ned's father. Though Robert was destined to marry Lyanna... she was "stolen" by Rhaegar and than presumably raped by him... or at least according to Robert. Numerous testimonies throughout the series from people other than Robert claim that he wasn't actually that bad of a guy... arguably a pretty stand up dude. Now considering Robert's hatred for Targaryens...this is good reason to hide the identity of Jon from the rest of the world. Mostly due to the fact that there is a good chance Robert would kill Jon for simply being Rhaegar's son. So the promise Ned made to Lyanna was to take care of her son and raise him as his own. So to protect the child Ned convinced the world that Jon was his bastard. Furthermore, there are numerous refrences in the the first novel of Ned claiming "he/you[jon] has my blood". That would be true considering Jon is Ned's nephew. So there you have it Jon is a Stark (ice) and a Targaryen (fire) [a song of ice and fire] [It also solves the mystery of who is the third head of the dragon prophecy]. So not only is Jon now a Targaryen... he technically has a claim to Iron Throne... possibly more so than Daenery's. But oh wait... the last book ended with a couple members of the night's watch going Ceasar on his ass... with him being presumably dead. I mean the guy did get stabbed for times (at least). It's a shame that no characters in the book have the power to bring people back from the dead. Oh wait? That's right the Red Priests do, I mean they did for Catelyn Stark (aka stone lady). But how can he become a King if he is in the Night's Watch? I mean it is an organisation that you stuck with for life.

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

"It shall not end until my death". But what happens if you die and come back to life??? It doesn't specify you have to spend all of your lives on the wall once you take the black... just that it end's once you die. So if Jon dies, comes back... isn't he free from his oaths since he did fulfill them to the letter... by dying and all. So that would leave him free to... I don't know rule the seven Kingdoms wouldn't it?

And that's my theory. Don't know how it's going down but it will. Jon is Targaryen and Stark, he dies(as we all know George is more than happy to kill of our fav characters... and sometimes bring them back from the dead) and comes back to life, get's an army somehow and some support from the other family's and comes riding in at the last moment to save everybody's ass.

That is pretty much what everyone who has read all the books assumes is going to happen. Which I think means John is just dead. He is probably just ned's bastard and just got straight up merked. That is what I expect of GRRM. I hope I am wrong, but I'll wait to find out.

I think Bran's story is starting to get really interesting but the Arya story arc is my favorite. Loved seeing Cersei's downfall and how Jaime basically just told her to f$#@ off. I used to hate Jaime but after the chapters with him and Brienne I've really started to like him. My friends that haven't read the books think I'm crazy for Jaime being one of my favorites. I can't stand Dany and she seems to be the favorite for a lot of people that just watch the show.

I'm growing less and less fond of Dany, but where they left off w her story in the 5th book was intriguing. I think most people like her cause tits. Jamie's character transformation is awesome. He sucked so bad at first and now he's turning out to be a pretty neat dude

The problem with Dany is that there is a lot of just sitting around and waiting. But what happens at the end of the 5th book is just bat shit crazy. She is going to go so ham now

I found myself skim reading a lot of dany's segments for a while. I just wanted to get through them so I could read about a character that actually had shit going on

Dany sucks. She needs to get her ass back over to Westeros and fix "her kingdom". Jamie has to have gone from my least favorite to favorite character. From such a d-bag to a classy mofo

Yes, Jon is a Targaryen.

Brienne will lead Jaime to Lady Stoneheart who will make them duel. **go Jaime**

Bran is the last 3 eyed crow.

No Tyrion is 100% Lannister, he was a curse sent upon Tywin by the gods.

Aegon is the son of Rhaegar and Elia of Dorne but instead of landing in Dorne and raising the Targaryen banner, Griff, the Golden Company, and Aegon are going after Storm's End which is being besieged by Tyrell men.

Grey scale will kill tyrion and shireen baratheon, unless it starts to mutate and spread it won't reach Westeros.

Rickon, Shaggydog, and Davos will come back, osha will be killed by wights.

Jon Snow can't be Azor Ahai, according to the High Priest Benarro, 1st servant to R'hollor, Daenarys is Azor Ahai reborn. Jon is just a Targaryen prince.

Hodor!!! hodor hodor hodor

Did anyone else feel like this after the RW scene? (repost from reddit)

This guy right here knows what's up.

I stayed out of this thread because I love GOT and most NS threads ruin things I'm fond of, but you all seem pretty legit.

I hope what the rest of you are hoping, but knowing GRRM Jon Snow is most likely just dead, regardless of his heritage and bloodline. I mean, Martin is quoted as killing of Stark characters simply because it was predictable that they would live in the first place. And even if Jon is revived by the Red god, that wouldn't be a great storyline since their "soul" is altered and they aren't really who they were before.

And yes, Dany's storyline before leaving and finding Drogon was way too much waiting around. Could have put way cooler things in the book in place of that.

I love everyone's train of thought though and enthusiasm. Good thread D!
