A ski that dose it all?

what ski dose it all?

My friends are looking for a ski that he can take on the piste and carve away at the slope but at the same time must be able to ride it in the park hitting rails and jumps with the the occasional 360 but mainly 180's But aswell the ski must be able to cope with POW?

The ski must be able to do;

- carve the slope well

- ride the park (twin tip)

- float along powder

Tell me the ski that can master the art of skiing?

I happen to have looked at most "do it all skis" as it took me a while to decide which one to buy at the start of this season, so here's my opinion:

Bear in mind I've skied on the prodigy (my skis), shreditor102, soul rider and al dente, and got my friend's opinion for the blend (as for the jmos, I was very close to buying them and read a lot about them) :

Faction Prodigy-The buttery and nice carving (98 underfoot) (the one i ended up buying, so for someone who skis 50/50 park pow and likes to jib and butter a lot on and off the groomers, and does a little urban once in a while, the perfect pair)

+Carves on groomers incredibly well for a twin tip (even at high speed you can lean into your turns and it won't slip out, altho if you start doing short turns, obviously it gets jittery)

+Perfect in park if you don't mind fatter skis (they're quite forgiving, good on rails/boxes)

+super jibby/buttery once you put some weight on them, otherwise they're very stable.

+Float really nicely in pow, not too heavy with marker griffon bindings

+Rode them all season everywhere (urban too) and apart from top sheet getting fucked a bit (which is completely fine) edges are perfect, base had a few holes but fixed them easily.

Line Blend-More park oriented (100 underfoot)

+More for park, very good on rails/boxes yet still fat

+Not too expensive

+poppy

-not very good quality, bases get fucked easily (lots of urban might not be very clever)

-doesn't carve too well on hardpack

Decent in pow

K2 Shreditor 102-If you do more groomers/jibbing around than park or pow

+decent in both park and pow, holds nicely on big kickers

+carves well on groomers

+very poppy, buttery= nice for jibbing around the groomers

+quite cheap (around 300$ on evo)

+forgiving

-not very durable

On3p Jeronimos/kartel106-Charge, carve, jump.

So the Jmos have been replaced by the kartel98 and kartel106, but you might still be able to buy the 2014 Jmos somewhere. If not, the cartel 106 are the closer to the jmos imo (they carve better than the 98), even tho a bit fatter, but if you do a bit of pow then it's even better

+Super good carving, stiff skis (so if you like to butter and aren't super strong, reconsider)

+Super durable: tons of rails, urban, whatever: they'll hold

+Nice in pow

+Good for jumps

-not forgiving, especially if you do a lot of rails/boxes

-Expensive

If you ski mostly park and groomers and like a stable, bombproof stiff ski, then the 98 might suit you better, but it won't be too good when it becomes slushy or in pow.

Nordica Soul Rider (97 underfoot)-The fat park ski

+Perfect for tree skiing, jibbing around soft snow

+Buttery, poppy, yet stable around the park

+Durable, nice overall quality

+Carving is decent, super fun once the snow gets a little softer

+very nice on rails/boxes if you like a fatter ski on em.

-Not too good in pow

-lose control of it when you go too fast on hardpack

As for Armada Al Dente, in my opinion they're like the not as good version of a mix between prodigy and shreditor102. The quality isn't too good, they're not as forgiving, you lose control of them faster at high speed, not as smooth in the pow. They are much more buttery once you break them in tho.

i think the closest youre going to get to a do-it-all ski is a midfat, stiffish park ski

it'll do everything well and nothing super well

I like this post, thanks for not just posting the name of a ski and moving on.

Some changes I would make...

- Swap the Prodigy with the Candide 2.0 (or even 3.0 if you're feeling a much wide ski). The rocker profile of the Candide series will allow for better float in powder and the camber underfoot (even though it's less camber) will still push it hard on the groomers.

- Take out the Blend and the Sheditor...too soft in my opinion for what you're looking for

- Focus more on the Kartel 106 - it's really ideal for what you want...super awesome float, super sable, very durable, tons of fun.

Personally, I would really focus on the Kartel 106 and the Candide 2.0. They'll really push it all over the mountain, and both can really do everything very well.

HeartSlayer

Session, thanks for the mention.

The biggest weakness of these skis is on large jumps with hard landings due to their full rocker -- the landing must be stomped (it was tried). Also when carving super hard at their limit on hard snow (which is easy to do because they carve so well) they start getting speed wobbles along the whole length of the ski (even the best cars have their limits.)

But I have ideas for new models to overcome these weakness. The other problems are the price of this ski... and getting used to them (it just takes time)... other than that there is no ski out there that I'd want to use. Injuries are/were non-existent due to entire body staying on one axis, and without poles.

In fact I likely wouldn't even go skiing if I couldn't use them. It's also so much fun dropping down into slides from within the carve, and having my hands behind my back until take-off speed is reached .. like an aeroplane taking off. Also, carving powder is a phenomenal feeling and is practically the same technique used as carving piste, which is awesome.

Anyhow, I wonder if others have or will create skis that have been inspired by this design. Would be great to see.

Other than that, I think the Heartslayers can and will take you into new realms of pimphood and gangsterism that you've never experienced.

It really comes down to if you prefer buttery or stiff. Candide 2.0 is quite stiff and not too durable if you start jibbing around too much, and will be wrecked after a season with lots of rails. The prodigy isnt really a park ski, in fact none of the faction team use it for park, i just like having fatter skis in park, but i can assure you that it floats in pow really well. If op wants more a pow ski rather than park and likes to go fast on groomers and doesnt really butter then kartel108 will be perfect for sure, but pricy compared to shreditor for example. Yeah the blend is kinda odd cos it performs ok all round but isnt partivularly good at anything (at least my friends opinion who rides them). Anyway gd luck to op in its ski choice, i know how long it can take to be sure which one you want xD
