i don't know about you guys, but if a dude is playing major league baseball, in a crowd filled with thousands of people, shouldn't a noise.... not really influence the play all that much? It's the third baseman's own fault for being distracted. It's like a dude is sliding in to the base and you look at them rather than catch the ball to get him out. If the dude wasn't concentrated enough, then forget him. And i'm not even a yankees fan...
 
i've done that in soccer games. at times where i'm too far to get at the ball comin towards a player on the opposite team, i'll yell leave leave leave!! like i'm someone on his team. it works sometimes
 
mind you this is nothing compared to someof the straight up bitch things arod has done in his time. the yankees are sooo beat, it's early in the season but i bet the sox will bury the yankees and possibly have themselves a cake walk this year

also left out was the slide A-Rod had 5 feet to the left of 2nd base with a follow up elbow to the crotch of the second baseman trying to turn a double play just days ago. For those who dont play baseball (i do) it is bush to purposly miss the base by that much and come up into him, let alone go after his pills. A-Rod shoulda had his pretty faced stomped on by that guy. A-Rod is a coward and an excuse maker, and i actually do not mind the yankees. No place for his BS attitude in baseball.
 
that is so lame. I actually shouldn't judge because back when I played soccer I would yell shit like "got me back" and opponents would pass me the ball. But there is no place for that in professional sports. And the sliding 5 feet off the bag is gay too. Oh and slapping the ball out of the pitcher's glove covering first. The list goes on forever. I hate Arod a lot. By far my least favorite yankees player.
 
for the people saying that he shouldn't be playing cause he got easily distract do not understand this. By him yelling mine made howie clark(which is a back up which might explain some of it) think that someone else was going to get the ball which made him not go for.

It sounds like the ball was ahhhvously his, if he stupid enough to think the short stop or left fielder is just gonna snipe his ball, he shouldn't be out there.
 
Regardless of whether or not the guy should have caught the ball, it's still really immature for him to call "mine", especially if the yankees were winning.
 
He does what he can to win, within the rules, he yelled Ha, nothing wrong with that, and ya the ball slap was lame but he wants to win and will do anything possible (legally) to do so you can't hate him for that. Besides he's not the Yanks problem these days anyway, pitching, pitching, pitching....

I agree, straight bush league.

And I think some of you are missing the point. He didn't distract the 3rd baseman. There are a ton of distractions going on. He yelled "Mine!" as if the left fielder or shortstop called the ball. Thus the 3rd baseman backed off and the ball simply hit the ground.

I mean it's just about having a little bit of dignity ya know. Kids do shit like that in little league. Your bone-head player infield flied to 3rd base. Especially the Yankees too. They wanna be the most respected team in the game... with the most championship... blah blah blah. You don't have your star players pulling shit that kids in 6th grade do.

And I thought they paid the big bucks for players, not pranksters. All they needed then was Ashton Kutcher to come out and tell Clark he's just be Punk'd.

 
i disagree. thats how team mates communicate. if he didnt listen then he wouldnt be able to communicate with his team. i play o line in football, and we communicate every play, we have to. i think its bullshit.
 
no real yankees fan likes a-rod. i wish they'd get rid of him. hell, even paying him to play somewhere else would be better than having him on the team.

the retirement of paul o'neill was the end of the yankee dynasty. the man was the heart and soul of the team.

 
ya, real testy - I don't even particularly like baseball, though I like 'clever' comments even less. I'm a yanks fan because I was born in NY and that's about it.
