A Quick Moral Question

So I was driving the other day with a driving instructor. I was driving down the road and a squirrel ran out in front of me. My instructor just said "Just keep going, if it doesn't move it's his own fault". So I was thinking, why don't we think the same way about Humans? If a Stupid Human runs out in front of you, why don't you keep going cause "It was his own fault"?

Just something to think about.

actually, in canada at least, you(as a car) have the right away on all road ways, the only reason you should stop for pedestrians, is if its a designated stop or crosswalk.

that being said, someone jumps infront of a car, its there fault.

Makes me want to live in Canada.

I was Driving today, saw some idiot just causally walking across a 4 lane road with a suicide lane in the middle, I had to slow down a bit to not hit him.

It's like come on, at least run when you J-Walk.

Never put your life in danger to avoid hitting an animal, but you are an asshole if you speed up and try to hit it. I usually avoid squirells and turtles by just slowing down.

another moral question

now that you are 18, is continuing to sleep with your 5 girlfriends between the ages of 14-16 still ok????????

I took an ethics class once and the professor asked us to contemplate whether hunting and killing a moose was really more acceptable than having sex with it and everyone having a good time.........

Squirrel should have wised up and used a crosswalk. Simple as that. Also, you should have called it in for J walking, and then the police could have shipped it off to a remote part of the mountains where it would not be such a nuisance.

I stop for birds, squirrels, cats, dogs and anything that moves. We are all equal whether you're retarded instructor thinks so or not. Stop for animals.

this.

but if a retarded human starts jay walking its his fault. i dont care if i were to hit a human while they were jay walking, but i'd care if i hit a animal

that response is really a personal answer. a lot of people would completely disagree without him, and others may completely agree.

however, that being said, the killing and torturing of animals is linked to psychological issues, as we all know, therefore i theorize your instructor is a douche bag.

while it would be nice to mow down people, i'd rather have the cars of red light runners explode. also, i'm pretty sure that killing pedestrians would qualify as manslaughter.

I think a human life is valued so much more than an animal because when you kill a human being so many other human beings are greatly impacted by the loss. When you kill an animal, unless it has babies, not much, if anything, is affected.

And on a moral level, running over a squirrel would kill it instantly (unless the rare occurrence happens where you just run over it's hind legs). If you hit a human, chances are they would try to save them and he'd go through a shit load of suffering through the recovery process... As well as the impact on family, hospital bills, etc.

Let me remind you that this isn't the case for all animals. Had a moose, bear, or elk run out in the road I guarantee your instructor would have grabbed that wheel so fast. HAHA!

i think this is kind of debatable.

and a lot of animals don't really die on impact. a lot of animals seem to grieve their losses, but i think the difference is they have to go on and do, and probably either aren't able to or simply don't pine on it like humans do.and a lot of animals don't really die on impact.

This is hardly a moral question. In fact, it is the opposite of moral.

You're arguing that we should run people down simply because we're not legally required to slow for them

If you are on a busy road, dont swerve as it can cause an accident if anything slow down and honk the horn. Now if you are crusing on an empty street I see nothing wrong with moving out of the way.

just like the thread with the weed and the bears in canada, this makes me wish i lived there....

i did almost hit a kid during my driving test. there was a red light and as soon as it turned green a kid on a bike came flying out of a corner building. i had to stop the car slammed on the brakes and turns my minivan side ways on the road.my instructor was like wow i prob would have hit the kid then she said in america it wouldn't have been your fault if you hit him but because of the laws it would be your fault. but i still passed my test

hmm well. i could never kill anything, even if it was a squirrel. but as far as the law goes, i think it's stupid because the driver shouldn't end up being blamed for whoever was dumb enough to cross the road without looking.

A lot of animals don't die on impact? Cars weigh a couple tons. If an animal goes under a tire it is smashed to pieces. That is as quick of a death as it gets. But that is completely contrary to his argument, anyway.

i try not hit anything on the road, i feel really bad when i do. i definately hit the brakes for animals and i swerve so i dont hit it.

when i "swerve" its not like i wildy jerk the wheel all the way over to full lock, then back again while honking my horn and jamming my breaks, i just steer around whatever is in the road.

nope, that squirrel you see pancaked on the road 2 days after being hit is still suffering.

if its a squirrel, and i can safely avoid it, i will. If i can't...sorry mr squirrel. hope it ends fast for you.

However if its a cat or dog, i will make more of an effort to avoid it. I don't want to have to be the one who hits a dog in front of a house, then has to tell some parents that i just killed their childrens best friend.

Its a matter of natural selection. I don't stop for animals, but i don't think i've ever run anything over either. Most of the time they go under the car between the wheels or just get out of the way at the last second.

If they're stupid enough to run into the middle of the road infront of a car they deserve to die.

This girl (under 21) in Stoneham Mass was exceptionally drunk with some friends, she walked into the street and was hit by a speeding car. She sued the town because there wasn't a side walk where she was.

i dont think the instructor was saying kill every animal you see, but put your safety and the safety of other drivers ahead of an animals, ie dont swerve into oncoming traffic or anything i would agree with that sentiment but maybe i'm just an arrogant human

Humans have broken the cycle of natural selection however, we're now the only organism that doesnt allow physical strengths and weaknesses to affect our gene pool.

lol, you're saying the instructor had psychological issues and is a douche because he told the guy to keep driving straight instead of putting the lives of many ppl at risk?

We have a much more complicated form of natural selection based on projected worth and cost/benefit analysis. Also, some girls still go for muscles. See jersey Shore.

i'm saying he's an asshole for wanting to kill little squirrels!
