What is the scene around your town? metal,acoustic,punk.ect..

also what is it like between bands, cool or a bunch of bands crying and fighting?

just wondering cause the good music scene around here went down the shitter.

spread the love.

im in a band called the decaying scabs. exept we dont have any instruments or songs.

but seriously i live in a city of like 1 million and am fairly into the punk scene here. almost all of the bands get along with each other really good and the guys are often/always at all the shows

well around here punk/screamo/hardcore shit has taken off seems like the only bands around here play that shit

but like alexisonfire, billy talent, death from above 1979 and Ill scarlet were from around here

I try to steer clear of that scene since I really dont like that stuff so I dont really know if the bands get along but

I used to be in that scene, where you would go to shows every friday night. The Matches were big in our scene until they got big, if you have ever heard of them.

im not in a band, but ive got alot of friends who are. most bands in my area are pop-punk/punk w/ a little hardcore mixed in. bands are huge in my town, ther are atleast 10+ in my high school, and im friends w/ most of them. even though most of them, if not all of them, wont get recording contracts or anything, its still a sick scene around here. actually, there is a band that might get signed. myspace.com/lightthecity

Our town has a pretty big music scene. Not that surpising since it's a college town. Theres a strong Punk/Hardcore and Metal scene here, for the younger generation. As for the older folks its more blues, bluegrass oriented.

im not in a band but i enjoy a good jam sesh as much as the next person but i know alot people in funk bands with overtones of other genres(i.e. reggae, blues, hip hop etc...) A friend of mine is in a group called The Funky Shadehouse Band and they play at alot of small bars in Denver, they all live together along with this like 60 year old black dude named Elvin who calls himself their manager but in actuallity just sits around and smokes blunts while they play old ass blues riffs. My boss is in a reggae/funk band with like 11 people and theyre pretty sick as well. Denver has a pretty tight music scene all around though, you can find pretty much anything between Denver and Boulder.

I live in Portland, which pretty much runs indie music right now. Theres almost always a local show to go to, and if not, then there's probably someone bigger coming through. Its nice and fun, except for the ridiculously overdone hipster kids who wear facepaint.

we used to have a pretty good scene here, it was almost a philly style crust punk scene. my little town of of 65,000 would have a show at least every weekend and sometimes up to 3 and even two shows on the same night. we had alot of out of town bands come through to but as the kids organizing shows got older they all seemed to move and our scene died

I play in a band around my town ( Johnstown,Pa about an hour from 7 springs ..)

if i had to really classify the latest trend in music around here i would say melodic hardcore/punk

all the bands get along reall well around , and never have an egotistical problems like some bands i've heard about it .

if you have nothing else to do , give my band a listen , we have a cd and plan on hopefully doing a split with our friends from pittsburgh this summer

http://www.myspace.com/discordiapamusic

our stuff is sort of along the lines of from ashes rise

I'm not really into punk, but you guys are pretty good. Try and get a compressor pedal for the guitars to cut down some of that unwanted extra noise and feedback. Other than that you guys are pretty good.

Our music scene in Iowa City is pretty dope. We have at least 2 places in town that are pretty much indoor stages with a pit, huge stage, and a bar. At least two bands out of the many here have gotten signed, which is pretty cool, and they both have a pretty large following. As of now I'm in a shitty metal band. Our drummer blows at anything instrumental and listens to slipknot.

Yeah man I used to play in a band for a solo artist in Boston... We had a rowdy time playin' music, playin' at clubs, meetin' people, drinkin' beers. The genre was more acoustic rock, but not like Jack/Ben/John Mayer stuff. It was like a more mellow pearl jam. We released a E.P. called Adam the Moth. After the the band split there was no problems, we just all went into different directions. The singer stayed in Boston, drummer moved to New York, Guitarist moved to Whistler, and now I'm in Switzerland. That's the story of our band. I feel bad the music scene there "went down the shitter" but I'm sure you'll find a new music scene soon.

Peace

hmm... you and i live in the same town haha. I'm in Aisle Six, if you've ever heard of us, we haven't played a lot of shows lately but there's a chance we will play at the last coffeehouse of the year, come see us!

That's sick, my homie actually works for them whenever they come back home and play local shows. They also went to my old high school. /claim

damn, i like your band. what do you play? i've only listened to one song so far but it reminds me of countdown to life from portland

shit's rough around here. my area consists of 80% die hard redneck on their John Deere dating their sister and eating a mayonaisse sandwhich. hahaha

The few bands I see come and go around here always end up having huge rivalries and just ends up hurting their name. The punk bands hate the screamo, the screamo hates the pop, the rock hate the metal, and they all hate hip hop, and then there's reggae and they just smoke gangja and care about a damn thing.

haha, so maybe the lesson here is to just be like the reggae bands?

It's sad because if the bands actually worked together and put their drama aside they could actually really launch a movement out here because it's all untapped territory out here that's dying for a scene.

I remember I was putting together a huge hip hop show downtown about 2 years ago. Turns out some punk band decided a week before our show that they want to throw a show the same night on the other side of town .. so what do they do.. they march into the streets and rip off every advertisement for our show that they see and slap their flier in place of it.

Well we brush it off think no big deal, and put some of our fliers back up next to their's and leave theirs be. I come back seriously like an hour later to find out they had ripped all of our's down again.

These were high-quality fliers that we ended up spending bank on. I had told some of the artists what was going on and they were floored. Take to mind that alot of these artists were 6'5 RIPPED gang related blacks from the Bay and Sacramento. And their posse and bodyguards surrounding them all made them look small. hahah. We had something like 60+ guys that all looked like they were in the NFL. They were pissed and realy to flood the punk show.

Keep in mind that the kids in the punk band probably still in highschool, are small and only have 13 year old groupies to protect them.

I think we know how this would end.

I didn't want anybody dying so I called them all off. Tried to be better than that and wanted to leave a positive image for hip hop in the area as it was the first real rap show ever going down out here.

But so much for that idea. The show turned into being a huge brawl. Guys getting thrown out windows, girlfriends getting tables broken over them, guys getting thrown over railings and into a creek 14 feet below, guns & knives got pulled, and then cops put us on lockdown.

Moral of the story. Maybe we should have just mobbed the punk show and kicked thier ass. Same amount of people would've probably gone to jail. And at least we would have kicked their ass and felt good about it.

dude thats so cool. after seeing that show the matches became one of my favorite bands. they play with such a passion and so much energy. and shawn harris came all around the audiance after their set. such a cool guy (and surprisingly tall).

i like our scene because we have such a diversity of music in ours and everyone gets along

your guy's scenes sound sweet. ours is full of metal bands who all think their all the best and better than every one and have to write songs about each other to piss them off even more. and my band gets ragged on for not being metal and shit. were like a alternative pop punk type music (myspace.com/dodgingsusan) and i pisses me off, its so hard to find shows with out its being with the cool select non bitch ass metal bands, so when ever we have a show its full of damn metal heads that arnt into our stuff, its lame how people have big ass egos and ruin what could be sweet as hell.

Haha thats sick! I always loved seeing Matches shows back in the day when I was into them...this thread made me put on a few old albums of theirs and definitely brought back some good memories!

Don't start a band

No body wants to hear no body wants to hear

Nobody understands

Don't start a band

You'll be so disappointed that it was nothing like you planned

Don't start a band

Oh yea yea yea

I hate to ruin the magic

I hate to kill the dream

But once you've been behind the scenes then you'll know just what I mean

You might think that's its cool to get up on stage

And play rock and roll from your heart and soul

But no one shows up and your songs all suck

And there's no applause and no flying bras

No girls will scream for you and no ones gonna sing along with you

Don't start a band

No body wants to hear nobody understands

Don't start a band

You will be so damn terrible they'll all think your shitty

Don't start a band

Oh yea yea yea

'cause you wont get paid

And you won't get laid

And even if you make it

All the way to MTV

I don't think you could take it

All the bullshit and the greed

Everyone is so fake when they shake you hand

And they kiss your ass 'cause then they get cash

And the business end will turn every friend

To an enemy oh you will see

They'll turn their their backs and they'll be gone

Faster than can say 'what did I do wrong'

Don't start a band

No body really cares nobody understands

Don't Start a Band

You will sign your lives away and then you'll be working for the man

Don't start a band oh yea yea yea

Your message will get lost

You'll get double crossed

And if you that the joy of playing

Will keep you going through the years

Wait till you poor and frustrated

And the fun just disappears

Nobody cares what you have to say

And noes gonna listen anyways

Rock and roll will bring you down

And it will kick you while your on the ground

Don't start a band

Don't even try you will regret it yea

Don't start a band

You'll be so disappointed that it was nothing like you planned

Don't start a band

Oh yea yea yea

So just give up now

I'll show you how

Don't start a Band [x4]

im not in a band but know lots of people who are.

for the younger teen crowed its all punk screamo stuff

for the older teens to early 30s its mostly reggae

i fuckin love portland(used to live there)

i live in bend now

and pretty much we have punk and edge bands here

at my school there are a bunch of classic rock like people that play music

as for me im currently in a rap group called muffin squad engage now

hahahahahaha

haha

yeah it is pretty gay around here

but like with me, i like everything, i can handle the scream, love the bass, reggae, mellow, and acoustic and are my favorite

so like when we do have shows around here i go only like once a month, compared to my friends twice a week, and just sorta chill. haha

but yeah

it is kinda bullshit how everybody cant jsut get along, its just childish..... but whatever that will hurt those people in the long run, because if you think about it, if a producer comes to a show and sees them acting like that, theres no way they woudl sign them. yet they saw the bands that support the other ones even if its not their style, your a better chance for a deal.

haha anywyass

i think im going to start a rap band called no substances so i can automatically be on almost every flyer printed
