Just saw on the news today that North Korea has announced that it has nuclear weapons capability. intelligence suggest it has enough enriched plutonium to produce 5 devices. So this begs the question. Since North Korea is regared as a muslim country which is renound to have many muslim extremists (spp?) and a large anti america population. So this beg's the question. if the president is gonna go all out on iraq because it fears hussain may be devloping weapons of mass destruction should it go for north korea as well. I personally do not support the war on iraq and i fell it will acomplish little in the war on terriosim apart from compounding the anti american feelings and adding more fuel to fire the preechings of the extremists (spp?)

I cannot see a winning situation here and i feel that if all this goes ahead many more bombings will go ahead similar to the bali car bomb.

I fear many more innocent people will die because of these fucking animals. none of this helped buy George Bush and Tony Blair.

I would like to know what you all think and if you think any of my statements are accurate?

I think that Bush needs to take more of a world view on politics and culture. He is a very unpopular figure in the rest of the world, mainly because he is seen as making very little effort to understand other cultures and yet generalises and stereotypes them. As a result he is stirring considerable anti-american sentiment which is being harnessed by a few into a cross-border feeling of solidarity and unity amongst fundamentalists

On the other hand, you do have to question why a nation like North Korea would want nuclear weapons. Perhaps the answer is that having been identified as a so called axis of evil they feel the need to garner protection against an aggressive American regime. At the end of the day, Bush's sweeping statements and aggressive actions combined with the fact that he is the head of the most powerful nation in the world is probably precipitating more paranoia and anti US/Western sentiment than is realised. As stated before, this can only fuel fundamentalist activity, which is not motivated at the state level but at the level of the individual, something which a significant 'campaign' could never address

you're not thinking about this rationaly. North Korea has absolutely no intentions of using any weapons of mass destruction on the united states. They, along with everyone else, know that their country would be wiped off the world map.

There is slight conflict going on between North and South Korea. If anyone is going to get nuked it's the southern brother.

Yeah they would definitely not mess with the US but the relations between north and south korea are a little bit better than a few years ago, cause they did march togethter in the olympics and stuff

America has known this for quite some time now and actually made it public, it's no suprise at all. And yeti is right, they would never use them against the USA and if they did, America would launch missiles also before the korean ones struck and both countries would be obliterated. Mind you, 5 nuclear devices would destroy only a relatively small part of America, maybe 5 major cities. the USA could take out every major populated area in South East Asia.

All in all, I think that Bush has enough of a peanut inside his blank skull to realize that N. Korea is very close to China, who is as close to us, in a strength aspect.

Even is north korea launched nuclear arms at the US, we have the patriot missile defense system which shoots down incomming missiles, in retaliation to NK attack the US would wipe the land of the face of this earth. Bush is dumb..

What a lot of you Americans don't realise is that there are plenty of other countries who could quite easily wipe YOU off the face of the earth.

I am going to punch the next person that says 'war is good for the economy' - we've heard that enough already. (no offence to the person who just said it.)

And the 'patriot missile defence system'???!?! What are talking about. The patriot missile was designed in 1970, primarily as an anti-aircraft missile, it was then re-developed as a counter-weapon for short range ballistic missiles. It is out of date and was only tested in combat for the first time in the Gulf War where it scored a 40% success rating. If you want to rely on that and the fact it only has a range of 42kms then be my guest.

The actual missile defence system is called 'Starwars' and involves putting a anti-baliistic missile counter into low orbit and destroying the incoming weapon from a distance. If you're going to post something like that then at least get your facts straight first huh.

What is amazinly stupid about the U.S. right now is that the government makes up weasely and vauge excuses for their actins. When Bush really wanted war, h had Rice get on and say there had been some terrorists comming from Iraq or had been trained in Iraq. Thats funny becuase that was irrelivant to the main point: taking out Saddam. Sure, there might be terrorists in Iraq and for that matter, North Korea. And sure, they may have nukes and shit, but we do too. Not only that, we have the most 'weapons of mass destruction' and have a shit load of terrorists in our country. We have these weapos for two reasons really

1. The cold war

2. National security

These 2 countries have these weapons almost for the same reason. If an attack was made on these 2 countries, then it wouldn't be surprising to get our ass attaked too. I'm not sure where i am going with this, just a buch of ramblings...

we dont stockpile nuclear weapons. we decreased the number we had by a fuck of a lot since the cold war and the missile defense treaty. and we probably dont have to worry about north korea in the first place, but someone correct me if i'm wrong, because i would imagine they have no long range capabilities, at least long enough to hit the US. and as big of a dumb fuck as bush is, do we need another september 11th to realize that we do need to fight terrorism wherever it is. iraq has harbored terrorist groups which is a situation that needs to be dealt with no differently than afghanistan.

And as for your comment about not stockpiling weapons. Sure we've decreased our amount since the Cold War, we have had no true enemies tho. And we still have an extremely greater amount of nuclear weaponry then any other country on the planet.

And Aspenwhatever, the USA doesn't really need to stockpile nuclear weapons or other. First you must look at the definition of stockpile. The way you're meaning it implies that they have big storage facilities with nukes just sitting around like bombs in a warehouse. Well, as a matter of face, America is rich enough to have silos or whatever to sit their ICBM's in anyway. Nuclear warheads and other weapons are in secure locations all around the country. In a sense you could actually say that yes, the USA does in fact stockpile weapons. And it has the most of them in the world. Not to mention all kinds of other chemical weapons and what not that America 'doesn't have.'

Well the difference with North Korea is that a lot of other countries would want to participate in multi lateral action against North Korea if they decided to have their facilities unmonitored. Right now NK's facilities are monitored due to some kind of agreement I forget its name. But if NK nullifies it then some major countries get scared... South Korea, China, Russia, and even Japan I think. More countries in NK's region have interest in seeing NK kept in check than they do seeing Iraq be kept in check, and NK hasn't done anything at a Sadamm level to warrant the US just rollin on through.

 
block 3 patriot missiles can shoot down balistic missiles. However they have not been tested extensivley against ICBMs. 42km is plenty if the patriot is sitting near where the missile is going to land.

There will not be a war with north Korea anytime soon. They are still pretty good buddies with China who would oppose US intervention very strongly.
