A Question for the Ladies

You wanna know how I know this is a thread for females? the answers are all so fucking ridiculously long.

I started skiing in park cause I liked boys and they were in the park. and cause skiing is rad.

My parents both grew up loving skiing so as soon as I could walk they took me out to learn how. We moved almost every 3 years and each time we got farther and farther from snow but took 2-3 trips to the mountains every year. Because of that it became one of the couple constants in my life. So I fell in love with skiing and then started going into the park with my sister. I'm awful, but I have fun so I started getting more and more into it. I started going to the X games every year and met more people who loved skiing as much as I did. Now that I'm in college and have a little more of a flexible schedule I'm able to head out west more.

I was actually born in the Bear Valley ski resort village. My dad owned the snowmobile shop in town. He taught me how to ski as soon as I could. I have 5 older brothers that all skied park and I wanted to keep up / fit in. They told me racing was gay and I needed to be a badass so I started hitting stuff. Now that my brothers are way older and some kinda done with skiing I've started racing in highschool to meet some people that ski Sierra since I moved to the Tahoe area. I'll love park though and I'll get back into it in a year or two.

ive skiied since i was a little girl, i started dating a skier my junior year of high school and he introduced me to freeskiing and ns. I thought the sport was very cool and a lot of fun. Right now im taking a break from it, but once i get back into the right financial situation im gonna take it on full force.

Do it please & thanks. Call it the heartthrob. :)

haha I actually work full time at mad river so I'm there pretty much every day

come say hi, I'm the blonde girl that looks like I'm doing something important (I'm actually just wandering around looking for something to do)

I grew up skiing at a mountain with very little snow and got into park by hiking little boxes and rails on sunny days!

Grew up skiing, mom and dad made me join the free ride team then I dated a guy who was really into park. We aren't dating anymore but I'm still skiing.

this

I think all those girl camps and whatnot seem great

to introduce people to the sport . I mean, if you dont have any brothers or friends to ride with the first times I guess its intimidating to go to a hill. I dont have any problem at all with hanging with dudes but I can see that it could be intimidating if the instructor/everyone around you are of the opposite sex.

Exactly this. The way to get more girls involved os to show them that there is a place with support and has like minded individuals. For those who are intimidated by the guys, skiing with a girl at first can make all the difference.

I've ski raced for as long as I remember, and would spend every weekend up at the mountain. From being at the mountain all the time I met a bunch of dudes who skied park all the time. Eventually, I convinced my parents to get me a pair of twin tips for freeskiing. I would always hang out in the park with my guy friends and finally one day I didn't want to be a by stander, so I learned to hit my first rail...since then I was hooked. I still was pretty into racing, but always hit the park from time to time. When I finished high school and decided on going to UVM I knew they had a freeskiing team. So beginning of college I ditched racing and became apart of the team and have been competing and skiing with the team for 3 years now. I've met some awesome people through out the years and I am extremely happy with my decision of switching over to freeskiing!

I grew up skiing wayyyy back in the day, and was a Slalom racing in highschool, but I enjoyed hitting the moguls/bumps and taking small jumps the most, enjoying the thrill it gave me. After H.S. I took a long break from skiing during college and raising a busy family, as years ago both boys played hockey and my daughter figure skated. we lived at the ice rink!

Jump to 2009, when my son Kyle, an 8th grader at the time, asked if he could get some "twintip" skis. I'd never heard of them believe it or not! At that time he also introduced me to "Freeskiing" via Youtube, where I was introduced to 4bi9 and the infamous Tom Wallisch. It was love at first sight! I spent hours in front of the computer screen watching edits, getting to know about the sport and all its riders. The thrilling maneuvers and captivating style was addicting!!

Me and the kids got out skiing a lot over the next 5 years. Both of them joined the Nybora Freestyle team here in Minnesota where they progressed a lot. In just 3 years skiing, Kyle and Allison both qualified for Jr. Natls! Those were the best years of my life! Traveling to ski competitons. If I wasn't skiing myself, I was found with a camera in hand, filming and shooting Kyle and his buddies. And the best part about it. They wanted me there!!! Allison, not so much haha.

I also had fun acquainting myself with people in the business through Facebook. Pros, filmers, photographers, merchants, resorts, competitions. All of it! I set out to meet as many of my "Idols" as I could. Call it stalkery, but I was just star struck by all the riders and filmers, most notably Tom Wallisch, 4bi9 and L1P.

Over the past 5 years I've been able to meet and even ski with many of the athletes I admire by attending film festivals, Dew Tours, and our annual summer trips to Paradise, Mt. Hood. Wallisch, Ahmet, Hornbeck, Kyle Decker, Sammy C and Willie B, Henrik, Casabon, Bergeron, THall, N Martini, Bobby, Joss, Gus, Goepper, TYW, LJ, Hatviet, Jossi, Henshaw, PK, Woodsy, Roz, Devin, Grete, Battersby, Herman, Turski, Voisin, Black Steve, Keefer, McChesney, Wyble, Barnes actually all of 4bi9 I think, and more.

All this rekindled my passion for skiing, and I don't take it passively. I'm not content just swooshing down the hill. Even at my age of 52, I look for a thrill, an adrenalin rush. A couple years ago, with the encouragement of my son, I slid my first boxes, then even a small low rail.I acquiring many bruises, bumps and the annual toe bang that leads to my summertime toenail loss. I tore my ACL 4 years ago airing a pretty big jump(imo), but was back skiing 5 months post-op at Mt. Hood......Paradise!! 3 years ago, feeling good and strong in my knee, I was ready to try some spins off jumps. I started with 180's, then just commited more with each try until I spun a 360. Hadn't done that in 30 years!!! Last weekend I had a whole line going. I hit a couple easy boxes and then straight into a small jump and landed my 3's all day long. At my age, I can't tell you what a thrill and accomplishment this is!!

Obviously I don't like growing old. Freeskiing and the freeski community, and most importantly my kids, keep me young at heart! I hope I can physically keep skiing and even progress some more before it's over. Shhhh, don't tell my hubby. He thinks I'm crazzzzzy!

Okay sorry that was long.

Started skiing when I was two. I was placed in the racing program but got bored of skiing gates, so I started shredding pow and I never looked back.

I hate being waited for!! And the boys I ski with ski sick shit that looks really fun, and always had a ton of fun skiing it so I had to try! and then discovered it is way fun : )

I got into skiing after having snowboarded for 6 years. It wasn't until I did my first season that I realized skiing looked really fun, but I didn't even try it until I cracked my rib and couldn't snowboard. Most of my friends are skiers too so that probably also helped making me more interested. I tried it and was sold right away but this was in April last year so I didn't have much time to actually ski with the mountain about to close.

I stayed in Whistler for the summer though and worked on the glacier which is only park in the summer, so that's pretty much how I got into the freestyle part.

As for the womens Jskis: moar tie dye!

I'm so in love with my snowboarding's cool skis, I don't think there will ever be another ski for me haha

I've been skiing for a really long time, a week ago I kinda decided hell I wanna learn park, sadly I did not get very far considering I love in the Midwest and our season is done.next year, however, I really plan to improve my few limited skills.

My story is kinda complicated because Im from South Carolina. I grew up going on the stereotypical once a year family ski vacation. I have always been interested in extreme sports so free skiing caught my eye. I then became obsessed with the sport, but the only thing I could do is marvel at athletes on my computer screen and wish I was them. Junior year of high school I made the decision to go to college out west somewhere where I could ski and fulfill my passion. Plus I freaking hate the south east, so naturally I wanted to get away as far as possible. So I went to the University of Wyoming. At Wyoming I met friends that have the same passion, more specifically my boyfriend. He has helped inspire me and grow as a skier. I owe a lot of credit to him because we can challenge each other.

my ex told me stop being a bitch, which involved taking off the race skis lol.

Watching Rage Films masterpieces such as "Booter Crunk" and "Stimulus"

new ways to challenge myself. Some years I do better on rails and slopestyle features, some years like lately I've been more into jumps and halfpipe. Getting myself set up for backcountry. If I had it my way I'd be doing heli laps in AK/BC every day of my life.

I got into it a few years ago after watching some edits. I was in awe and automatically decided that I had to try it out. When I started, I was still using race skis because I had nothing else. But for my 13th birthday I got a pair of Armada Cantikas (I loved them!). I've been hooked ever since.

I was pushed down a hill at Nashoba Valley when I was three and was obsessed ever since. I skied at Mount Snow every weekend for most of my life as well.

I got so bored at Mount Snow but, then I really discovered park skiing though a wonderful dread locked British ski school coach. I had two options, ski with the race coach or ski with the new park coach one day and there it was. From there I started hanging out in the park and meeting people, who later became very good friends. I always pushed myself, got hurt all the time but, had a really awesome group of guys I skied with.

When I was a teenager Mount Snow hosted the Dew Tour, I taught lessons there and Carinthia park area was built which got me really into it. I was probably happiest just to be a part of something at that age. When I was first getting into it, mount snow had a few tiny parks that made it much easier to start park skiing, which may help get more girls and guys to try it without being intimidated.

When I went to college in Colorado, we had a ski and snowboard club which was pretty big and had lots of park skiers. I remember there being quite a few girls there who skied park. I wish I got more involved in it in hindsight, damn you 20 credit semesters and social awkwardness.
