A question for FKS/ p18 owners

ive noticed the older fks155 has a different toe than the the newer fks120 from 2007 which seems to have an upward release toe

my question is which toe is better? the upward release or the older pivoting metal toe?

also i currently own salomon sth16's which i ride at like 13 or so, im 5'10'' 190 lbs and they come off no problem but ive heard FKS bindings dont have to be cranked down so hard in order to stay on during a fall ,so im thinking of getting FKS 120's for my park skis and FKS 155's for my pow skis, because im starting to think that alot of bad bails ive had are because my skis came off, but i dont want to get the 120's and have to max them out.

so can i run them at 10 as opposed to my sth16 at 13 or should i just get 2 pair of 155s

any FKS owners that would post their weight/ hieght/ DIN setting would be helpful also

thanks

wow you must be charging hard. i'm 5'11" 155 lbs and i ride my STH16s at 10 or 11 and I've never had a problem with them releasing when they shouldn't.

I have 120s on my park skis set at 9 (a little bit of padding for safety!), and 155s on my pow skis at 10 like the chart says they should be.

I weigh 185 lbs, 6 feet tall, and these are the best bindings I have ever had. I feel safer in the park with the 120s on since they do have the vertical release, and they are extremely durable. My 155s are like miniature tanks as well, showing no damage other than a scratch since I bought them years ago.

yea im told i fall really hard,

but sometimes on big jumps at high speeds ill land fine but just a little funny and lose a ski and i start tomahawking down the landing cause i put my boot down. and it makes me think if i would have even fell if my ski didnt come off.

also i wish i could say its a defect, but im on my second pair cause the first was warrantied.

ive been testing the new ones regularly( btw im certified in all salomon bindings too)

I had a pair of fks 185 on bents (heili coil) and rode those at 14. also, i had fks 120 on different park skis and rode at 9. Currently, i am riding jesters and have them at 14 for pow and 11 for park. I weight 170 and i am 6'1'' with a bsl of 305 ( cause that plays a roll in din settings).Their is my profile for you

your problem might not be with the din, but with elastic travel. the more elastic travel you have, the more forgiving the binding will be, which means that the binding will allow the foot to turn in it for a set degree amount while still retaining it. at the limit of this range of motion, it will release. maybe you should try to find a binding with more elastic travel. I think fks have great elastic travel, which would be perfect for you

thank you, thats why i made this thread, i think i just land sloppier than most so the fks heel will keep my boot in the ski much better

im sold thread is pretty much over unless someone has more info

I have P18s on my park skis set at 12 and my pow skis at 12. I am 6', 190 lbs and my BSL is 317 mm I have released out of them many times, had many falls where I havent released but never a twisting fall where I didnt release.

Din is din, roughly. I'm 175lbs and I ride my FKS185's at a 13, the same as I would ride any other binding. Don't get the 12 dins because even at a din of 10 or 11 the plastic toepieces are easy to break.

I used to ride on Solomon and the PX Rossi bindings, but at my size and DIN they didn't hold up well at all.

im 5'9'' 165 and i have had multiple bindings, i disagree that din is din. alot of bindings prerelease, and alot cant recover from a fall where you would come out of them. fks recovers well. i rarely fall and skiing park isnt a past time of mine anymore. i have always found that my salomon bindings( 914s )i needed excessive forward pressure and din above 12 to be comfortable with the binding. but my old 957s are perfect.

i just got some dukes that i jacked up to 12, im pretty sure that binding doesnt even release, i have heard a few stories similar.

fritshi freerides and naxos only have reliable din if you have rubber soles

my rossi race bindings (18 din fks) the shop set at 9 for me because that is my din according to whatever. i was going to leave them at 9 until our base grew then change them up. i only lost a ski three times in the entire season, one was on a 50 footer to uber deep pillow, one was from sinking a tip in ultra deep pow, the last was skiing chop super fast and i dont think the ski was on right and i felt the thing release going about 40 but my boot was still in it, inevitably i fell pretty hard. but i never turned the din up because i was so comfortable with them on 9 even constantly hucking and slaying big lines and skiing deep powder. i do have a problem keeping forward pressure in these bindings though. about once a month i have to readjust the bindings so i dont wobble around in them.
