Look up legit stats on this and find that the AVERAGE waiting period for surgeries is LONGER here in the USA than in Canada. ya exceptions i'm sure, but not usually. I did not support the nationalized health care system until i went to a dorky seminar that informed me of the FACTS of a single-pay national health care system (the one CA has). SOOOO many people, including me, had/has the wrong ideas and are just quoting the lies they hear so a ton of people just simply dont have the correct facts to back up what they're syain.

yes they did, there was a statistically significant amount of loans being rejected by banks towards minorities(blacks and hispanics, asians were actually accepted more than whites, but that wasn't publicized) and the federal government started sueing banks if they found significance in the numbers. It started during clinton and continued/grew under bush. I'll find and post article/citation soon.
 
I'd like to see it. But even if they were forced to start loaning more to the sub-prime market, they were not forced to hike up interest rates, which led to accounts being unpayable for the average worker.
 
ill address other things in this thread later, but there has always been discrimination towards blacks regarding blacks getting loans. Remember "redlining?" If one black lived on a block, the FHA would deem that block as having a lower real estate value than the same one a couple blocks down with no blacks. Although redlining was stopped (thank God), discrimination still continued against blacks getting loans. I might be able to look in my notes from my history of cities class to find some stastics but its sick (the I want to throw up sick, not the, oh shit tom wallisch rodeo 450 to rail sick).

well here in austria, theres also a "free" health care. and i got a free ankle surgery, a free septum derivation and a lot of other stuff just because my mom is working and paying (18%) a small amount into social insurance.

it might sound a lot, but for all you right-winged "i live my life and i dont pay for others": you know nothing about economics. actually, thats why we need a state to provide all these things. imagine you would have to pay for every road, bridge, forest, path or whatever you use

I think it depends on what standard you judge a president by. You could say that Bush isn't the worst president by a long shot because we aren't in the worst position as a nation that we have ever been in. LIke saying hoover was way worse because the depression was worse than this, or whatever. But regardless, the way that Bush governed the country was completely disfunctional, and damaged our country severely. This has nothing to do with him being conservative or liberal. All I'm saying is that he was not a competent leader, and we needed one after 9/11 really badly. He politicized the justice system, he politicized a war, he basically said fuck the world and fuck the congress. These were not good ideas. So thats grounds for being up there as one of the worst presidents in US history.
 
well 18/19 % (blue/white-collar) is the social insurance stuff. because of that, i get free health care and when i am not able to work, if i dont get a job due to some random problem or when i retire, i will get money to survive. of course you carry a lot of suckers in this system, but it doesnt deny the fact that such a social system is great.

other taxes are around 35-50 (depending on income), so normally, around 55% of the money is away, but thats just how it goes...

economics, social stuff, wait a second:

n inhabitants of a town X have the amount of money w to spend. they can either use it for themselves or invest a sum x into the (non-existing) street lighting of the town. so my friend, i spare you the formulas for this model, but how much would anyone invest into the street lighting? NOTHING. because noone can be sure that some random fucker from another town is using the street lighting for some random stuff. so you reach a social inefficient status, which can only be balanced by some kind of governmental control.

so in a country, where the government is only there to sleep in congress debates, we wouldnt have street lightings (not too bad, huh?), but we wouldnt have streets to enlight as well. no bridges, no army, no public transports, NO LAW.... welcome to the republican states of america.

for the surgeries: it wasnt something immediate after an accident, but 1. people with such injuries come first (my fixed surgery date was almost cancelled due to an accident) and 2. i waited like 1 or 2 weeks.
