A message to my photo teacher...

So I'm in college, have been for about a month. So far, a month of photography in this woman's class and I decided to write her an email including the line "At the beginning of the year, my plan was to be a photo major. I'd just like to let you know that you've ruined that for me as your class has led me into the Athletic Training Major. Thank you for ruining photography for me"

She also asked me to send her the website I have a bunch of my photos on. I did that and got a response today and all it said was "You've got a great eye for photography and I can't wait to see how great of an artist you'll become this semester". NO Mention of the hatred send in SAME email. I'm an asshole I know, but I had to do it.

I have to take 112 exposures in a day and a half, NOT on campus, and I'm a freshman who doesn't have a car. By Off campus she means local parks and lakes and such, which are not in walking distance and there's no public transportation in this god foresaken town. She also expects us to come outside of the 2 hour class that we already have 3 times a week to make prints, Not a problem, except she's not there to assist us and she expects us to be there for 2-3 hours every day.

there's other random stuff she does that pisses me off. Before this I would LOVE to get into a dark room and make prints and carry my camera everywhere takin pictures, but godam she just pisses me off.

No one should do something unless they're willing to put their entire being into it. This is the problem with college. If photography was truly your passion, you'd find a way to make it work, or will.

Obviously not my passion then. Mind you this is a photo 101 class, the other 7 people in the class have never used a manual camera/worked in a darkroom before and they have to deal with the same expectations.

hmm i just read the post you made above mine...in which case:

people are irritating. realize that she'll only be apart of your life for a little while, so you might as well impress the shit out of her while you can.

dude my drawing 1 teacher is kind of like that, not as freakin crazy

but the first class she said it's a class for beginners, so if you're not good it's ok, but she is crazy...we have crazy still lifes and the first couple days we'd be crankin out like 10 drawings in our class

and then we had to do mad sketches of this stupid bean plant she gave us, like one a day, and we had to have it set up in like an environment

totally not as bad, but i know how you feel, on a smaller level

Are you in college as a full time student?

If you answer yes, I'll assume I missed the sarcasm in your post. If not, shut the hell up. You have no idea how hard and involve art classes can be. They don't require you to study as much but they require twice the time involvement. How the hell is he supposed to take other classes with all the shit she wants him to do?

just remind her that its an entry level course and that you don't have access to transportation etc. No need to quit your major just because you have one hard assignment.

but if photography was what you wanted to do, wouldntyou enjoy spending that extra time doing it?

oh and whoeverr said they really make you work for your fine arts degree......science kids have it equeally rough

This isn't a class strictly for the major itself, this is a class for anybody to take, art major's and non art majors.

im taking photo in university as well and i find it easy as hell. but thats probably because i took two years of photo in highschool. this shit is like back to first year high school photography. the kids in my class don't even know about burning and dodging.

its COLLEGE, not HIGHSCHOOL anymore dude.

have you finally woken up and seen what the real world is like?

cuz its gonna knock you flat onto your ass here sooner or later.

your teacher is one crazy bitch.

"This video is a narrative fiction that is based on the real experiences of the male to female transsexual lead character. The video explores and challenges the meaning of the category "Natural Woman." Central to the piece is the notion that gender is largely a social construct, not a characteristic innate from birth. The video tells the story of a first date between the two protagonists, a genetic female (g-girl) and a transexual female (t-girl) . The opening sequence shows the careful construction of a feminine gender expression through makeup and clothing on both the bodies of the g-girl and t-girl. The second half tells the story of thier very sweet first date. At the deeper level, this work is about two people trying to make loving, emotional connections with each other regardless of gender identification or sexual orientation."

trust me dude, that is not the type of person that you want to study under. look at the shit she takes pictures of for fuck sakes. that is her benchmark. do you want to develop that style because i bet she wants to continue her messed up legacy. so yea, make like a tree and get the fuck out of there.

Well I figure she's a professor and knows what it's like, so she teaches it as it's like in real life. In that case, photo just doesn't seem very fun.

HOLY CRAP i can't believe they let her teach, did anyone look at the videos she made???? GET OUT OF HER CLASS!!!

dude ur doin somthin that ur gonna do for the rest of ur life n ur complainin cause u have to go in 3 hours 3 times a week n then more later. quit bitchin ur the one that wants to take pics n crap, jsut get out n do it, uve left shit out like other poeple i can tell, id leave too but thats only cause im not interested in that photography

If you read the first post, you'd see that I'm not a photo major and won't be doing that for my entire life, I'm an athletic training major. I went in not sure which one I wanted to do (undecided), leaned towards photo and yesterday went to my advisor and signed up as an athletic training major.

my spansh class is the hardest thing i have ever taken and today i was so sick and tired of my fucking teacher i told him to fuck off and left the class for good....

It really sounds like your not ready for that class or putting all your effort into it. I am starting at a photo school in a few weeks and i will have to do 35-40 hours a WEEK of shooting/developing on top of the time i spend in class.

If you cant go take 4 rolls of film in a day and a half how would you be able to survive as a photographer?

nothing in life is easy. sounds to me like you are lazy, and if you really liked photography you wouldnt mind coming to develop your pictures. you ruined it for yourself man.

Did you read any of the expectations? It's a fuckin photo 1 class, Im not going to skip other classes to get to the open lab times.

you dont have to skip other classes, just do it on your own time. I guess thats kind of hard because you dont have a car(unless you live in the dorms), but ya i guess it does suck.

I cant do it on my own time, because the labs closed except certain times of the day, which are also the times I have classes.

im sure yolu could have worked something out with your teacher if that is really the case, but it does sound kind of harsh for a 1 class. Have fun hanging out at school all day with your new profession.

Ya I talked to her today and she said that the times were strict, as the actual lab building is locked outside of classes. It bums me out big time.

i hope my photo teacher doesnt do that for me.. i want to major in photo.. and i love doing this liek that too

lol damn your uni is strict, mine i just go to the library and get the key for the lab and start developing away all the way till 12am.

Dude, I'm the same boat. I'm in community college until i figure out what i want to do, so I singed up as Fine arts to take photography. Randomly had to take drawing 1 also............... i have no interest in drawing, and it's taking all the time away from my photography, so i'm withdrawing from it.

But seriously, get the fuck out of that photo class, and take it w/ a different prof. that shit is fuuuucked up.

TO quote this crazy ass professors website:
