A medicinal grower could be looking at 80+ years

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

This is insane. They are locking this guy up for complying with state law for a minimum of 80 years. I am disgusted.

america's sentences are way to long, also don't they have better things to do than raid all these growers. How do you have two contraindication laws, I under stand one is a stat law and one is a federal law but wouldn't one take precedent over the other, also I'm not from the us.

1) I have never smoked

2) There is no difference between medical marihuana and non-medical marihuana

3) Marihuana is not dangerous

4) The USA is fucked

Where do all the american extremish Christians get their religious views from, where in the bible does it say you cant be gay and marriage is only for male and females or you can't have and abortions and stuff like that.

Feel real sorry for the guys son. Pretty fucked that its a mandatory 80 years and really?! What jury saw him as a severe criminal. Federal over state or state over federal law, whatever it is. Its fucked!

I know it says somewhere in the Old Testament if a man lies with another man...bla bla bla something about it is wrong.

Where in his post do you see typographical error? HWW, I'll try to give you a "serious" reply. Non-medical marijuana (i suppose you can say "street" marijuana) is often held to a much lower standard. It is not always grown with the same care and attention that a medical grower will use. Unlike medical growers that have a reputation to uphold for the highest quality product, non-medical growers may be simply growing only for a profit. They often cut corners leaving the consumer with lower quality weed. Sometimes, this does actually have some fairly negative side-effects (however unnoticeable).

Hopefully change is made soon and this guy can make an appeal. I wonder if President Obama has seen this.

That's in Leviticus. And it's taken out of context. Many theological analysts of the bible have said that in the language of the day "a man should not lie with another man" isn't simply saying a man should not cheat with some other dudes wife. Since their wife was considered a man's property they just referred to it as the man himself in that quote. So technically the bible doesn't explicitly say homosexuality is awful. Now you know. Now their may be another place in the bible that I am unaware of, I do not read the bible.

Thank god they got this evil criminal off of the street!! Society is now much safer than it was. I don't know about you guys, but I sure as hell will sleep better tonight knowing this evil man is behind bars. Finally they use my tax dollars for something useful!!

It blows my mind that this guy is in jail for 80 years but the CEOs who made millions fleecing us during the bailout crisis are sipping maitais in Ibiza. So incredibly fucked.

but still, a grower who isn't involved with cartels should not be getting that severe of a penalty regardless. his 'crime' is petty compared to murder or rape. he is inciting no violence or other illegal activity. if anything, it's just gonna spawn more underground shady dealers who have a new market to exploit with a less reliable and less safe product.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. I was wrong then - there is a difference, but anyway, it shouldn't change this situation, and it's incredible how people get locked up for things so small.

I genuinely don't understand how this can happen in a modern western country. I don't smoke or particularly care if Marijuana is legal or not (though I would have no issue if it were), but the fact that state law and federal law conflict should not be taken out on this guy, it's a bureaucracy issue.

a bureaucracy issue that goes back to the beginning of prohibition which was started because hemp was better than tobacco but everyone was so invested in tobacco and didn't want to change. it's all really stupid

It's funny because the USA was created as a nation that would be free of a controlling national government and let each state choose what the people of that state wanted

words cannot explain how pissed i am right now. 80 fucking years? i mean its not like hes seling it to anyone! hes a middle aged father i mean come on

It's sad when we see something so popular with the public that seems so hard to get through washington. People across the nation from both sides of the political spectrum favor legalizing, taxing and regulating marijuana like alcohol, but every time the issue comes up in washington they treat it like it's a laughing matter to be ignored.

Colorado and Washington have done the nation a great service by being the first states to legalize recreational marijuana. With this done, it is going to become harder for the feds to enforce drug laws in those states and it leads the way for more states. This is a big victory for legalization advocates in all states, and I thoroughly believe it signifies the beginning of the end of marijuana prohibition in America.

I mean I understand that these people aren't bad people, they're helping people and in general marijuana is safer than alcohol. With that said everyone knows marijuana is illegal under federal regulations and you can get busted for it. I'm not for the law but you need to understand that the law exists and this is a possibility. why is anyone so surprised this happened?

The only reason people get surprised when things like this happen is that it strains credulity to believe that laws so absurd can even exist. We all know the law is there, it's just such an absurd law that whenever it's enforced we all get surprised, and angry.

I think that the government should respect the laws that the states people have decided and voted on. This guy was following the rules in his state. It just shows how morally fucked the DEA is and how poor our dug laws are.

Great video. That's beyond fucked that his son could possibly be in state care. Imagine how messed up you'd be after that.

you dad grows pot, you learn that pot if okay for legitimate patients, your father follows all state laws and meets with very important state and community members to get them on the same comfortable page, then he goes to jail for life. ugh.

Also wouldn't it make sense to allow people to grow inside the states and eliminate the need for trafficing through the U.S./Mexico border? Part of the reason (if not the entire reason) it's so fucked up there is because we're such a consistent customer to the drugs they cartels move. I feel like the way to end the war is to grow the drugs at home, maybe we'll see something truly successful in CO.

Well it does say that if you rape a virgin then you have to pay her father 50 silver shekels and marry her, so I guess you can't do it unless you have 50 shekels.

Awesome.

As always, the NYT is not exactly reporting everything, just what it takes to get all of you to gargle their cock juices, and share their story.

No I don't. I think it should be legal in every state so that people could decide for themselves if they want to smoke. I don't see any reason to make the argument that the DEA is violating people's rights and we need to get them out of the picture, but if the state government wants to throw you in jail for how you treat your own body that makes perfect sense.

If it doesn't make sense for people in Colorado to go to jail for smoking pot, it doesn't make sense for people in Texas to go to jail for smoking pot.

That is because the DEA are pussies, they won't go after the cartels and the dangerous drug traffickers because they are scared of them. They just take down the harmless family men who they know won't defend themselves and won't fight back. Fucking twats.
