A little Devils advocate for you Global Warming Conspirasists!

Ok so I know there are millions of threads, i've finally gotten tired of trying to explain to people that they should actually study up on Geology, and a few other things to figure out why certain global trends happen....so now i'm just gonna play a bit of devil advocate and have some fun!

What I find the funniest is how our Country works so basically anything happens, people turn it into a religion practically, actually if you look into your history caps, this has been happening since the days of Ceasar. But so basically lets say idk probably around 2000 this started to become something being spoken about. Now its redonk. Ok so atleast 3 years ago people were just talking about natural disasters being caused by Global Warming, now its to the point where if 911 would happen, you'd hear Al Gore blaming 911 on Global Warming, he'd get his idiotic "scientists" (paid off friends without degrees) and have them draw a fancy graph in Excel that would try to prove that Global warming caused 911. Its fucking hilarious....anything that happens...

So i did some research on crazy Catastrophes around the globe, you know why it seems like there are more now? More people to report it! More news outlets to carry the story! More people to Whitness it! Amazing! Better Technology to report it!

Anyways, explain to me this all you whizkids....how is there a hurricane in Toronto in 1954 when Toronto doesn't even touch an Ocean? (Note that the 1940's and 1950's were actually warmer then current Global temps, do some research) So yeah Katrina was a tragedy, but how is there such a thing as an inland hurricane in 1954? Did they blame it on Global Warming? http://www.hurricanehazel.ca/

Just some challenging fun! I'll post more later, Click this link to read up on it a bit.

the IPCC is credible, I don't know where you got that bit about them being Gore's degree-less friends. they don't even do research, they just write UNFCC reports from already existing peer-reviewed data.

No did I say I was disproving it? I Asked for someone to explain to me how Katrina was because of Global Warming, when there was a Hurricane in Toronoto in the 50's and its landlocked. If i was trying to disprove it I would give my whole Geological Speel, and come on here with a shitload of links and data related, but the fact of the matter is people are to ignorant and dumb to even listen, because half the people just listen to what there told instead of researching it. Read what i said, I basically said I was basically asking for someone to explain to me how that could happen, and how global warming is more real now than then...I mean a land locked Hurricane...haven't seen that in the last Decade!

Is the earth getting warmer? Probably.

Is it our fault? Probably a little bit.

Is it really that big of a deal? Probably not.

Is going green good? Yes.

Even if global warming is bullshit, only good things are going to come out of the technology developed to prevent it. Imagine what more efficient cleaner energy will do for the world? Solar power and wind power are essentially free (other than the initial investment) so over time its going to save trillions of dollars, make the air cleaner, and allow for way cooler stuff like solar powered gadgets.

word. even if car emissions aren't going to destroy us, they're nasty. who wants to live in a place like LA or China. fuck that noise

Wait wait, so global warming is a "conspiracy" now? If you believe the vast, vast majority of scientists on this issue, you're a conspiracy theorist? How about just the opposite maybe, genius.

Just another example of giving equal representation to an unequal perspective... Mill was wrong. I'll take a dead dogma over idiocy like this.

I remember when I lived in Mexico this dude had his whole house and his heated pool powered by a single wind energy tower. I thought it was bad ass.

cmon now. anyone who knows anything about climate change would tell you that although warming trends could result in more severe weather in the future, you can't attribute single events to it, i.e. katrina. the fact that you try and nullify a single event in history with some other obscure event is just silly. freak weather events happen. so is the nature of the planet we live on.

Evidence of Global Cooling

Tuesday we told you about several areas around the planet experiencing record cold and snowpack — in the face of all the predictions of global warming.

Now there is word that all four major global temperature tracking outlets have released data showing that temperatures have dropped significantly over the last year. California meteorologist Anthony Watts says the amount of cooling ranges from 65-hundredths of a degree Centigrade to 75-hundreds of a degree.

That is said to be a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. It is reportedly the single fastest temperature change ever recorded — up or down.

Some scientists contend the cooling is the result of reduced solar activity — which they say is a larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases.

---------------------------

For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

Yes, you did read that right. And also, yes, this eight-year period of temperature stasis did coincide with society's continued power station and SUV-inspired pumping of yet more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

In response to these facts, a global warming devotee will chuckle and say "how silly to judge climate change over such a short period". Yet in the next breath, the same person will assure you that the 28-year-long period of warming which occurred between 1970 and 1998 constitutes a dangerous (and man-made) warming. Tosh. Our devotee will also pass by the curious additional facts that a period of similar warming occurred between 1918 and 1940, well prior to the greatest phase of world industrialisation, and that cooling occurred between 1940 and 1965, at precisely the time that human emissions were increasing at their greatest rate.

for anyone truly interested in a 100% "green" house, check out the Solar Decathlon sponsored by the Department of Energy (website). we did some innovative sustainable-technology thinkings and got third overall. however the cost of our double-wide-sized house was enormous (although a good deal of money went to our R&D work and not mere materials/construction).

you either protect the environment or protect your wallet.

so true, gore isnt fvcking climate messiah, he is not doing wrong stuff, but its a matter of fact that he manipulated graphs to make a more interesting movie and to make more money.

more disasters are due to (as the creator mentioned) better communication technology and better global networks. i dont think people would have heard a lot of this recent cyclone in myanmar 50 years ago.

furthermore, greenland is called greenland because it was nice island with nice meadows when vikings discovered it 1,000 years ago.

its common knowledge that medieval times were way warmer than today.

all this statistics (even those that arent manipulated) show a enormous increase in temperatures since 1850 or whenever the temperature was first logged. all glaciers (which most were also measured the first time in the mid of the 19th century) are getting smaller.

but who will tell you that around 1850 there was a small ice age? so all in all we compare temperatures and the size of glaciers nowadays to a time that was considerable colder than something you can call average climate conditions.

i dont say that the earth isnt getting warmer, but you have to be critic about what you see in TV or in newspapers. everything that you can make money with (like al gore with his movie, like greenpeace or everyone in the "green industry") is primarily there for making money, not to save the whales, our planet or what the heck.

true idealism is rare, believe me.

I've always wondered how much that would cost to install. It would be sick to never have to pay for heat or electricity, and it would save energy and such. But for now, I think I will just post the results of my research.

Dude, the earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling based on the concentration of GHG's in the atmosphere that absorb infrared energy radiated from the earth. The gasses exist regardless of our presence, we're just adding to them. The danger associated with even a minimal increase in earths temperature is the melting of ice; it will create a positive feedback loop. If the earth warms enough that the reflective ice melts, there will only be that much more heat absorbing water to raise the earth temperature even more.

I'm not hating but we're all here for the same reason regardless of ideology... we love skiing. Honestly, I feel that anything that could take away the beauty and fun of skiing should be stopped. I never even knew that there was an inland hurricane... thats freaky shit, but I don't really believe that Katrina was GW either.

Be well!!!

Not to disagree, as I'm pretty neutral on the subject, but you couldn't have written that worse. It reads like a drunken ramble with a bunch of groundless statements. Congratulations, you've done nothing but make another pointless GW thread.

that contest seemed really fun and exciting. How many teams were involved? How long did you get to build? Is this an actual house?

Hurricanes have been known to travel inland. Did you actually read past the first page of the site?

well just about all yoru points are wrong. It was not warmer in the 1930s and 1940s. That is flat out wrong. Look!

Also, the IPCC is probalby teh most credible science team. It is around 200 scientists from all over the world just about all with PHDs/masters degrees. You are wrong again. There wasn't an "inland hurricane", it was a hurricane in the atlantic that turned inwards due to a high pressure system over the atlantic. This happens a lot, it just happened that this was a strong case. I could disprove every one of your points easily, but im going to go eat lunch. Bye!

I don't think anyone believes that global warming caused Katrina, I'm pretty sure we all know that it was Y2k that caused Katrina. Get witht he program you ignorant fucks.

THe real problem is organic food. . . . . . . . . . Fucking way worse for our environment than normal modern day fruit and veg production. So is the solution of ethanol for an alternative gas. Organic Growing requires Three times as much land to produce the same yeild as crops. Also there has never been a documented death or dieses from using pesticides on fruit, but with organic fruit ecoli has killed people, think about it, do you want shit all over your fruit?

some of those chemicals that people bitch about, are so weak, that they dont do anything bad, to you, or the environment...

i work at an apple orchard, and most of the chemicals they use, are safer for your health, then table salt .

i believe its bullshit too, when did this whole global warming shit arise? it was when the economy was in the shitter, all of a sudden there was millions of people who wanted to buy earth friendly cars and shit, boosted the economy. that being said, its the nature of the earth to rise and fall, i forget the actual numbers i think its it falls every 100,000 years and grows for 30,000 thats why theres ice ages. whatever i dont mind the idea that people wanna make the planet better, i just hate it when they try and push it on you for driving an SUV or something, if your gonna drive around in your prius thats cool with me but dont call others out for not doing the same as you

you're right, they laugh because you are spending 2 times as much on gas AND you are reving a chevy malibu haha

hey that thing hums like a golf cart, that engine is a BEAST!

haha, i really only rev the engine when i am driving my dad Avalanche, and that thing actaully has a decent sized engine.

but i do love seeing Prius's with "save the polar bears" stickers.

haha

i'd say 100% sustainability is nearly impossible to attain. one of my friends' folks purchased a farm out in the middle of nowhere after he graduated high school. they've made it almost completely sustainable (except electricity and gas and ammo and pasta and bread). but they have well water, septic field, "small" orchard for fruits, "small" garden for veges, chickens for eggs, cows for dairy, horses and dogs (not for eating), plus there's hunting and fishing nearby accessible by 4x4. that'd be so awesome to do when you're 50; boot the kids off to college, retire, and go live off the land somewhere......except its a shitton of physical labor.

might as well bitch about LEEDS for a second. LEEDS prides itself on "awarding" (after you pay them) bronze, silver, and gold certifications to buildings for their sustainability. the bullshit part is they claim to include the entire lifecycle cost and environmental impact. however they fail to include the cost and environmental impact incurred during the engineering and construction phases. i'd give someone props if they planted trees now and then in 40 years cut them down and built a log cabin from them. thats true lifecycle environmental accouting.
