A little bit of beer education

Anyone been to the U Fleku brewery in Prague? One of the best beers, if not the best beer, I've ever tried.

This thread isn't "I'm 16 and this is a beer I drank once". Yes it turned into people sharing different beers, but not just saying, what's with everyone posting all these shit beers.
 
who cares if its generic?? I didnt realize this was lets see who likes the most hipster beer. blue moon is good, well more like blue moon winter abbey is good. but still
 
Maybe generic is the wrong word... flavourless water describes it quite aptly. I like my beer to have a distinct taste, not just a hop flavour that lingers for all of 2 seconds.
 
considering every post is some micro brew only locasl have heard of, ill add some better choices of more common beers you can find at every LBW store.

Palm belgian amber- a clean, smooth beer. great to have with snack foods, and alone. no hops, so IPA, stay away from this one.

Devils backbone IPA- super floral, and tons of citrus. kind of reminds me of like a magic hat #9, but with that bitterness a good IPA has. the head lasts long, and so does the flavor.

Flying Dog Imperial IPA- the next level in IPAs! with an ABV of 7%, you get that alcohol and bitterness, right away but it finishes with a fantastic floral and almost caramel flavor. not something you spend a whole night drinking but always fantastic.

This thread is about good beer. Not a thread to claim the beer you've had a couple times. There's plenty of threads for that. Don't be so surprised you get called out for posting some of these beers along side with some really fucking good craft beers from all over the place.

I mean people are posting natty and coors light? I'm sorry but nobody else in this thread cares about the shitty beer you drink.
 
No it's called beer education. Nothing about the quality in beer. you can drink beer I find shitty as long as you know what it is and who makes it.
 
hahahha and i fully agree with your OP.

everyone has differnt tastes. a bucnh of my friends hate hops, and think my IPAs are utter shit, but i think their pilsers lack flavor. its all a matter of atse. and when the shit hits the fan, you cant go wrong with a 13 dollar 30 rack of cheap beer.
 
you must have forgotten where you were. theres simillar threads for some of the gayest stuff you can imagine, I'm always baffled how guys in my same demographic take pride in their 'knowledge' of shit like coffee, shoes, even furniture on here, its fucking weird.
 
Ya but it is awful in taste and low in alcohol. Most good beers have higher than average alcohol contents so 2 or 3 will make you feel pretty good, and the experience is much nicer. A few of my favorite beers are in the 8-10% range.
 
last night's beverage, at 11% you're toasty after a sixer. Quality if anyone was curious, but the high alcohol is very prominent on the nose if that's not your thing.

I have seen it as low as $2 per bottle at a mix and match sixer shop, I prefer the 90 though, the 120 is just a bit much and the 60 isn't quite enough, moderation is key.
 
Love Brew Dog stuff.

Apparently the Tactical Nuclear Penguin just tastes like alcohol..

I had a Tokyo Rising Sun from brewdog and it was so intense.

Also would't mind a Sink the Bismark one day

Love what the company stands for and the stories behind their different brews
 
Very few craft beers are sessionable to the point where you would WANT to drink 12 of them

Unless it's a Pilsener/Lager, the flavours are usually too intense to have more than 1-2 of each type. PLus with ABVs of 7-10% it can get a bit crazy
 
But I can drink 20 red cups of natty for the same price your 6 pack costs. And you don't even taste it if you drink it through a funnel!
 
there are a ton of great session beers. My favorite beer is surly bitter brewer which is pretty low. like 3 or 4.
 
I guess what I meant to say was that most of my favorite brews are in the higher range. Simply by coincidence.
 
Ya but you have to try the 120 once, the 90 is my favorite IPA and it's got a crap ton of awards that keep it on the shelves where I shop!
 
I far prefer the American style to Euro style (Wit/Hefe etc), maybe that there is more whole-cone hops used, or the type of hops, or that i just like APA/IPA's..

Definitely like what some Euro brewers are doing - forward thinking companies like Mikeller, Nogne-O etc just kill it.

We don't get too much US stuff exported out to Australia, although i often get my hands on the Bear Republic, Rogue, Sierra Nevada stuff

Just had the Southern and Northern harvest ales from Sierra which were all-time..Not sure if you have tried the Hoptimum?

 
Yeah, theres quite a cool story to it.

As hops season is over in the US spring, Sierra got the hops from new zealand and flew them back across the world and into the kettle within 10 days. The end result being fresh New Zealand hops blended with epic American malts.

THe Northern Harvest ale is wet hopped which makes it even more intense, tastes like 90IBU or something
 
lol ship hops from new zealand to america to make beer with. ship beer back to australia/new zealand.

but using wet hops doesn't exactly make the beer more intense. normally you have to use like 5 times the weight of dry hops to get the same amount of bitterness and aroma. some people say that with fresh hops you get certain aromatics you wouldn't get from dry hops.
 
i somewhat disagree that the term 'dark' only describes the color.

from what i can see, when a beer is 'dark' it is more bitter and a higher alcohol content. that might not be what the term 'dark' is supposed to describe, but just from experience (and honestly not that much experience) dark beers have always been heavier, more bitter and higher alch content.
