im all for kids expressing themselves, and letting the way they dress/ski reflect that, but you really do not see this in skiing. its starting to happen, you see people like the hot lunch crew make a movie thats totally different from any other skiing movie (though not different from good snowboard/skateboard movies) and almost everyone loved it.
but for the most part, this gangster trend has taken over and literally 99.9 percent of skiers have hopped on the bandwagon, not cause they want to, but because thats what skiing has become and alot of the time you are hated on if your not participating in this gay fad. i have friends who are super happy goofy people off the hill, wearing normal fitting clothing, like purple tight jeans, short shorts, 80's style stuff etc.... then they go skiing and they are wearing the newest xxxxl gangster shit and their attitude changes into this totally fake thug attitude, instead of being all about having fun and doin what they want, its all about doing the most technical stuff they can with some aftergay(bang).
i wear somewhat baggy stuff too, but its all super colorfull cause thats how i dress off the hill, and i goof around all the time skiing, and ive gotten hated on alot for it, what makes me like skiing the most is when im just totally fuckin around, doing exactly what i want, not worrying about how i look and how badass the tricks are that im doing. and when im worrying about how cool i look and what tricks im doing etc... i really dont like skiing, but ive had people say shit to my face about how they dont like me because of how i ski. its just gay. so this year im just goin all out, im gonna wear just what i wear off the hill, on the hill, and just not try anything i dont want, just fuck around 100% of the time.
sorry for the rant, but anyway, what i want to see is instead of everyone dressing like a thug, dressing how they do normally and how they want to, instead of dressing and skiing how other people want. if people are punks off the hill, dress and ski like punks, if people are emo off the hill, dress and ski like emo's, same for hesh, 80's, hipster, gangster, goth, jock, whatever.
cause right now skiing pretty much has no soul, you look at skateboarding and people skate and dress like total goof's all the time, and everyone thinks its sick and is ok with it. but in skiing if we see someone wearing tight pants, everyone flips shit. there are like two forms and styles of skiing right now, the comp style and the filming style, and everyone follows that, either spin to win tweaked like crazy grabs, or the same generic gangster style we see in ski movies and now with this afterbang fad. think how cool skiing could be if we had the comp people skiing how they want, people just goofin off all the time, people who do little jibs and stuff, people like the hot lunch crew who jib the whole mountain like crazy, super technical skiers, people with 80's style, punk style, etc..... there would be so much more original and creative new stuff happening.
look at the most popular pro's now, the top 5 are like tanner, dumont, wallisch, jon, colby. this could be changed around, but the list for your average newschool skier is gonna look really similar, they are all great skiers, but its all the same generic played shit we have seen for years and years.
we need the people like max hill, garret russel, hornbeck, nyman, paco, etc... being up there with the biggest pro's instead they get hardly any recognition for being extremely creative and original.
