this sport is dangerous, we all take the exact same risks every time we put on our skis. I think we just need to realise that people die, do everything and anything, end of story.

i think people die a bit more than we know, thye dont make a big thing about it though, i mean, who would want to. a few guys died in mammoth last year, most pow skiing and falling headfirst into pow with no-one to get them out. i suppose you just have to accept the inherent risks in our sport

just read some info in the morning news, in the black section...he was an 18 year old A.B., skiing with his little sister

tragic as it is, everyone dies someday, its just the way and when that changes... i take it what is so horrifying about this particular death is that it happened in a parc and that the guy was a skiier, not the fact that he did infact die?

Ok, this is a horrible event, like I wouldn't want to wish this upon anyone. But people half of you who say shit like 'I question why I even do this,' have completely no idea or feeling of being at risk of serious injury and/or death in the sport they are questioning, which in this case is the beloved sport of skiing. You are just being sheep and are just saying that for whatever self-pleasing motivation you may have, and not because you really feel that way. Please do NOT say something you don't truly feel as it is literally a slap to the face to those who have actually gone through that kind of situation.

skiierman, telling us me specifically what to and what not to say on this subject is also a literal slap in the face because i have been near death..very near in face, closer than most everyone on this site. now you talk of being in situations there...i dont remember your exact wording but have you ever been in the situation where if you take a nap you die and if dont go to the er right now youll die? well i was in that situation as a result of skiing, except the catch is i didnt know that i was dieing of internal bleeding, i just thought i cracked a rib or something and theres really nothing u can do for ribs i went home, now you imagine the feeling of the doctor telling you that if you fell asleep you wouldve been dead? theres a reality check if ive ever seen one, dont you think you might question skiing then? or how about the next few days when the doctors told me i could contract AIDS or even hepatitus from the pending blood transfusion, when a doctor tells you that you wouldnt be living if you took a nap after that crash u wouldnt wanna ski much either

RIP It's a sad, but harsh reminder that we all gotta watch ourselves. We dont know it, but people die doing what we do a lot more often than we think about. Just play it easy, and dont do anything thats too far out of your skill level. And wear your helmet at all times, i've seen proof of what can be avoided by wearing a helmet.

well I didnt see the guy skiing, but there was stuff laying about in the 'landing' area....poles an shit, I think I even saw body armor, but not sure coz it was quite far.He definitely had a helmet coz I saw it on the skidoo, with his skis (at least i think it was his)

RIP...skiing is most def. dangerous...think about how fast we fly down hills...not to mention how hi and far we jump...Sat. I was flying down a run in a pair of GS skis and the ski popped off my right foot while i was skiing at full speed...I tumbled a couple times and the ski came from behind and cut my leg down through the muscle..I have stiches in my muscles and everything no skiing for 4 weeks....that ski could of hit me in the face and took out my eye or something worse...you just have to decide if you love skiing enough..then forget about injuries and deaths...don't even think about them...if you ski half scared you could get hurt worse...probably get hit by some dumb ass snowboarder or something

Skiing, as a dynamic sport, is very dangerous, but as we have learned in the past weeks, sitting in a laun chair on the beach or swimming during break can be as dangerous, if not more so... there are inherent risks to everything, and skill can only protect us so much, there is a great deal of chance involved. the danger has to be surpassed by the knowledge that we know our limits and that the fun exilerating aspect of our sport is a reward that balances out the risks we take by stepping in and glidding away...
