A drone flew over my head last night

Greetings men and women of NS. Last night I experienced probably one of the strangest things in my life. After a long day of studying for midterms, I ended the night by rolling up God's greatest creation and climbing to roof to enjoy it with friends. After star gazing for a little, my buddy pointed out what he thought was a shooting star.. it was a drone. And a pretty big one. Now keep in mind this happened around 2 am, which leads me to believe this wasn't someones toy flying around... it definitely had more purpose. Now my judgement and perception may have been slightly altered, but I want to say this thing was about 5 foot long with 4 propellers and was dead silent. Have any of you ever experienced this? Or can anyone give me a better idea of what this thing was doing?

Additional Info:

This happened in Oxford, Ohio

It was about 30 feet above my head, and I was about 50 feet off the ground

This is actually becoming more common. In the small town I attend college in, I see drones flying overhead maybe once every couple weeks- just a while ago I saw one flying real low over town. I'm not sure if they are testing them at the airport nearby or if they are actually being used for surveillance.. either way it's a little unsettling in my opinion.

Ya but there are enough guns in that town to take on an army of drones haha

If it's over your property you own a certain number of feet up in airspace. So if it's low enough, someone is technically trespassing.

This is true... However, this is important mostly for housing development. It's a major bonus for people in larger city's like New York.

Unfortunately, I think you'd be fighting an uphill battle with your trespassing case.

The government is tracking you in order to find your dealer and take down the drug cartel there and then once they get the cartel they are going to imprison you. Have fun in jail op.

get ready....

things to consider- hobbiest flying at night? why? if your size is right, thats a massive and expensive quad. draw it?

In all realness OP I have seen these flying around my neighborhood. I live on the central coast of California I was super phased when I saw it the first time. My friend is from long beach and was like oh thats nothing I seethat all the time down in LA county. So yeah. Police states mannnnnnnnn

I backflipped directly under a drone last week haha. Somebody was flying it about 20 feet above the jump.

I work in environmental consulting and we use drones for environmental surveys. They have a lot of uses now outside of military/spying.

That's what happens when you accidently click on child porn. The FBI is now watching you.
