A different perspective on IDEA

I decided I would make a Thread on this movie because there have been many rave threads about this movie but I do not share the same excitment or thought. IDEA came in the mail today and I have to say I was pretty pumped considering all the hype on NS and what not. I get home put it in the xbox and watch...and I must say that movie did not really get me moving or mega stoked at all.

the soundtrack is cool because its originol but the slow music with pow shots in slow mo really made me get a sleepy feeling and did not really make me feel pumped or excited at all

I have to admit there was some sweet switch pow landings but nothing that really BLEW my mind as visuals go even thou I know alot of the shit pulled off is very tech. The movie also gave me the feeling that every BC booter they hit was the same, I don't know why but it really made me feel I was constintly watchin the same thing over which also made it less impressive too me.

This is not a complete trashing of IDEA im still going to keep my copie cause I think it can be a more enjoyable movie when theres snow on the ground and I'm having powder dreams but my first impression on the movie is not that exciting at all.

this is an opinion k?

this is my opinion and it is not a complete negative one

a controversial point of view, well presented. ns needs more of this to promote healthier debates.

good work son, but be prepared for mindless idiots and their barrage of hate!

I respect your opinion, I just happen to disagree. The chill music and pow shots made me stoked to ride, and they express the artistic value of riding snow and being in the mtns. Also, the style of riding was sooo fresh and baller...but that's just me.

I see your point but i feel that the slower pace is a good change from the Banger/In your face, stuff that we are so used to

I Didn't read your whole thing... Only the first sentence... and I agree somewhat. You have to look past what you see to appreciate it. It's definitely not a super fast, get you stoked movie. It's a "That's interesting to see how their entire season went...." And it's one of those "I want that!" movies. A lot of the stuff is just so epic that every skier wants to do, so the fact that we can watch it is awesome. Examples... entire Utah Pow segment.... Skiing big lines in AK at sunset, etc.

the thing i didnt like about it is that the snowboarding part had the best vibe and is the most "fun" and i was really hoping this would finally be a SKI movie mostly about having fun, cause there arent any, while snowboarding is full of movies with a really fun feeling.

but they did an awesome job making a calm relaxed movie.

i will agree w/ you on the slow mo... gets a little old and some of the shots would be more sick w/out it.

Its not a movie that gets me stoked for crazy haul ass kicker stomping skiing. I have many many movies for getting me in that mood. I love Idea because it most closely resembles my ski dreams - endless deep powder, perfect rotations and butters... and no other movie has ever been able to come close to that. Everything in Idea looks so effortless and floaty, I just love it. We already have enough 'get you stoked' movies anyways, its a refreshing change of pace.

Yeah I was hella disappointed with the snowboarding part. They didn't even suck at snowboarding. Maybe if it was them fucking around with their first few times boarding and you can watch them fall on their face while turning, it would have been more fun. But no, they were actually kinda good.

However all the other stuff was suuper sick, especially the Baker section. Mmm...

when i got my copy the first time i whatched it i thought it would be super awesome dope, and i was feeling like it was all hype, BUT THEN i whatched it 3-4 more times and i realized the uniqueness of the movie, the format, the way its presented, and last but not least the ending shot, sunset 180 cliff to pow, the best ending shot of any ski movie ive ever seen. And if you havent whatched the commentry it really answers a few questiosn you might have like how andy, pep, and eric all ahd their small injuries throughout the season and how there were alot of minor issues they had to cope with but still managed to pull of a very very innovative and super dope movie

^Exactly. If it was an ordinary movie, there would be a lot to gripe about. Besides the sw. cork 3, most of the park footage wouldn't be good enough to make it into a segment in your typical ski porn. Some of the pow skiing is not that epic (e.g. opening segment at meadows). And some of the BC kickers were nothing special. But this isn't ski porn, it's a concept film. And everything about it is experimental--the format of the film, as well as the skiing. That's what makes it thrilling to watch, even when it's not epic by the standards of ski porn.

Haven't seen it yet. But man it sure seems like it is boring as hell. I don't care how inovative or artsy you want to be, if the shit dosen't get you pumped then whats the point. Can't wait to see it but sure was expecting to hear more hype than this.

Actually I agree a little bit. Before watching Idea I was sure it would be like a 5 to me, while here in NS it seemed like it was a 9 to everyone. Then I watched it and now I think it's a 7'5 or something like that. I liked it, but I'm sure REALTIME's gonna be more powerful, even Yeah Dude.

I got yeah dude and thought it was pretty sick compared to war and ski porn...it actually had plot and abit of talkin but not too much which was nice and the location seg's were refreshing...deff was smooth and mellow while been rad and balla at the same time

i totally agree. Eric Pollard is absolutly my favorite skier, and pep and andy r up there. I really thought the movie was missing some key elements. i felt like they put only a few days into folming the movie. u can hate on all other companies like matchstick, but they put so much time into their movies.

there was no need for that snowboarding seg in the movie. great, ur pro skiers that can snowboard, but put it in the bonus. Their pow shots were great, but a little too excesive. i love watching powder, but it needs to be mixed up.

finally, having a seg for one jump is fine, but they put way too many shots into each jump segment, and did it throughout the movie. i just didnt feel variety.

the movie itself was sub par in video quality. it looks fuzzy on the tv.

the soundtrack and butters were amazing, but the video didnt cut it for me, at least not one engineered by those three skiers

DOOOOOD FUCK YOU IDEA IS SICK YOURE WRONG!!!! Seriously you must be a fucking idiot to not love idea

jokes

I haven't even seen it yet I'm still waiting for it in the mail

The first time I watched it I thought a few parts of it were mediocre. however, the more i watched it the better it got. I still am not a fan of the snowboarding part. It coudl have been shorter to fit in more skiing.

This is the truth. In general people need to be much more open to opinions and be less mob-like.

i haven't ordered it yet, but i definitly think i will. i am in the mood for a less in-your-face pump up ski movie. for example jp's pow segment at the end of ski porn i thought was mesmerizing...

the thing is that it isnt a ski movie, its a documentary of pep, pollard, and andys year, so that catalouged that year, sometimes they snowboarded in that year so it made it in there

I'm not sure it really made me 'pumped' it just made me be like daaaaamn I wish I was right there. as far as visually pleasing goes I don't think there's ever been a more epic closing shot in a ski movie. It was particuarly sick for me I think since I'm from the east and living out west for the first season of my life so it made me so stoked that I was actually gonna get to ski some stuff like that this year.

Werd, I feel that! Actually parts of that movie are almost dreamlike to me, it is refreshing. And most importantly, I think I will be able to watch it in 6 years and feel the same way.

if you go into it expecting fucking ski porn youre going to be so dissapointed its unbelievable. love it for what it is, a documentary. so good and mellow. conveys the exact feeling of flowing through deep snow on a slate grey day. amazing

Idea did and continues to blow my mind, because that is what I want to be able to do: ski pow with my friends, goof around, and remember every moment that I am clicked in that skiing is about having fun.

I'm glad every movie isn't like Idea, it would definitely get old, but I thought it was really fun and refreshing. The music was relaxing, the cinematography was epic (topped only by Magic Moves), and I thought the skiing was dope. It didn't really push too many boundaries as far as progression goes (although there was some mindblowing stuff for sure), but in my opinion those three skiers perfected the art of backcountry skiing in that movie... to each his own.

Idea was the sickest movie I ever saw. I am not a fan of slow motion and powder movie but this one was so well done that I really enjoyed it... it's a real nice project. Props to Iberg, pep, andy and pollard. Did the music was made after the movie? like for the movie because that's what I really enjoyed the most, the movie wasn't just a damn song with skiing on it...and the shots were supper nice

Nice noseslide on the rainbow, and really liked the 180 nose to spin like some snowboarders do... those are the sickest trick that you can do

anyone who thinks IDEA is the greatest movie of all time hasnt been around that long.

ITS GOOD, BUT NOT THE BEST.

also, the movie is a BIT before its time, but come on mahre did a zero off of pyramid how many years ago?

and yeah i dug the music, but (YAWN) for anyone thinks its better than everything else, well, ur just a hippie stoner who needs to take a weed nap.

ALSO, THE SNOWBOARDING SEGGIE WAS WAY TOO LONG. its cool that pep and pollard ride a one plank 'n all, but cut to the chase.

good movie though overall, gettin too much hype though.

I think it takes a bit of time to get into. at first I was a little doubtfull of it, but then as I got into it I really liked it. It is different and I liked that. Do I think all movies should be like that, no. But this was good.

Being from the east coast, it didn't make me super amped to go out to ski, but it did kind of change how I wanted to ski. I don't really wanna go out and just ski the park now, I wanna go find some cliffs and just mess around out of bounds. First watch through it was a little slow but each time gets better and better. Plus, I'm really into the soundtrack. It's different. The whole thing is different. I can wait 'til I go out west this winter.
