A cork 5 won a RAIL jam...

Jea, that's right. The "spin to win" has invaded the rail jams too. So here’s the low down, but before I start....if you are on NS bro, I'm not bitchin' at you personally, more so the crowd/judges. You're a cool kid and don’t take this as hate towards you.

So here we go....

I was competing in a rail jam on Saturday at a local mountain. There were about 40 people there. It was an open class event (boarders v. skiers). They held the qualifiers for about 45 minutes with all of the people. After the 45 minutes was up, they chose the 10 to advance. I made the cut along with a few friends.

There were 10 of us, and we decided to limit the jam to only on the stairset. The stairset was about 15-20 stairs long with a flat down rail on the left, a low flat down rail in the middle, and a flat down box on the right. After about 20 minutes of jamming they chose the top 4 from the top 10. I also made this cut.

The top 4 were my friend (snowboarder), some other snowboarder, another skier, and myself. I had been really gettin' into it and having a lot of fun. I had been throwing 270 to down 270 out on the left side flat down and a bunch of other more techy stuff. I hike back up for another hit and I decide to 450 to down on the flat down rail. I go for it and stomp the shit out of it (sorry for the claim ;p).

While I was hiking up, the other skier dropped in and cork 5ed over the entire flat down box, using it like booter. He landed past the entire stairset without touching a rail. Remember that this is RAIL jam, RAIL being the key word.... The minute I saw him do this I knew he would win. I get up to the top and decide to try to 630 onto the flat down rail. I went for it and locked on fine, but then I slipped out and ate shit.

They called a stop to the shredding and told the top 4 to stand far apart. The event head then told everyone who didn't make the top 4 to go and stand by the person who they thought should win. About 20 kids go over to the skier who cork 5ed and about 15 stand around me. The rest go to the two snowboarders. The event head said something to the effect of "Well we obviously have a winner," pointing to the other skier. So a trick that didn't even touch a rail ended up winning the rail jam. Im kind of annoyed because I got a clear second.

So there's my rant.

What's your take on this whole thang?

thats gay its called rail jam for a reason but if he corked 5 then tapped the rail at the end that woulda been better

if they want to run it like the audience picks the winner you are at the liberty of what wow'ed the crowd more, even if it wasn't a rail trick. But a cork 5 over a stairset is pretty sick. I probably would have stood by him as well

sounds like a tricky situation. If I were the judge, I would have awarded you first and the other kid like a best trick award or somthing, definetly ackknowledge the fact that he cork fived a stair set, but not the whole contest as it was a RAIL JAM.

That sucks dude.

I would be heated too.

But if you threw down, then you threw down, and people know whats up. People who matter, not the kids who bought into the spin to win.

And reguardless, a 450 disaster is way more tech than a cork 5.

had this dude been throwing down on the rail before his cork 5? It sounds like this was judged on overall performance rather than one trick.

yoooo. was this at shawnee? i think i heard about this. and im sorry but if a kid throws a cork 5 over a rail, im gunna give him the win.

haha a cork 5 over a stairset sounds dope tho. however he may have been trying cork 630 to rail and cudnt get it around? but hard to say without seeing it. but u got second then i presume? haha props

There was a rail jam at my mountain, and the kid who got 2nd did a 720 off the side of one of the lips like 2' off the ground.

thats kind of wierd, i mean if you knew a 5 would win then you could have just used the lip as a booter and turned it into a big air comp.

yea that sucks man. spin to win is pissin the shit outta me. i think style should be a way bigger judging factor

That's really gay. That happened at the J5 where they out of no place decided that all the jumps would be in effect as well.

that is retarted you clearly should have won. Everything you said is legit. RAIL JAM!!! gah. did the other kid actually do rail tricks, I would like to know this also!!!

Yeah, im guessing that's because it was on the box and was penciled. It was still sick though, no doubt.

The whole jam was fucked....

Was that you by the way?

People will be people. Ski for yourself, and if you do what you consider cool, then you win no matter what the judges/masses say.

thanks, my point was that once you crash you're out of a comp and by your story it sounds like it was a jump that was landed and a crash.

im split.

cork 5 down stairs = sick gnarsty

fact that he didnt touch the set in a rail jam = beat.

at least you tried, and having fun is what its all about, but you have good reason to be heated

My point was that I don't agree with a non rail trick winning a rail jam. It had nothing to do with me losing or winning, though that did annoy me a bit.

well heres my thoughts

if he was keeping pace with you and throwing down...id award it to him

but if you were clearly doing better throughout definately would give you the 1st

so was he doing good or just did that one thing good??

hey bitch that was me ur talking about i threwa cork 5 over that shit so fuck u

JUST KIDDING that woulda been funny tho

o well... that sucks that it won a rail jam, i hope he threw down with some other stuff, but whatever, congrats to the winner...

i don't understand how you can afford to say that spinning to win has taken over railjams, when you tried to outdo the kid by doing a 630. I'm with you on it being retarded that he won it though.
