yeah they have a giant mound of snow just sitting there doing nothing. they're really letting a lot of people down with no jump...

haha nice!! my family is coming out here to visit me for a nice summer trip, but they're bringing their skis now to shred for a day!

No chance they'll build a jump again.

The snow is too sticky and slow, it would be a liability and a huge drain of man hours (building, maintaining and ski patrol for injuries).

Just go launch the cornice.

i call bullshit, Mammoth and Hood seem to be able to make it happen. Huge drain for one jump? Not really.

you sound like my boss who regularly ignores reality. Wet snow is heavy, takes longer to form, ruts out faster, and 95% of people that hit it in their flat park will case it.

mammoth and hood have a huge demand for a park though, there is maybe 5-10 kids in the park hitting the rails

I don't think expecting a ski area to one jump is excessively unrealistic. Top of the park is plenty steep enough to build a 20ish ft jump that ppl wouldn't case. I guess i like to jump more than some of you.

Its not that at all, you realize that the cat hours and man hours to maintain a single jump for even 2-4 weeks would make a single jump cost somewhere around $20,000?

A Basin isn't turning much of a profit these days as there are very very few people paying for tickets or food.

A jump may be desirable for all of us, but it doesn't make sense from a business perspective.

20.000 for one jump. I don't know where you're getting that figure. Cat time runs about $250-350 an hour. I guessing at most 4-5 hours to build a small jump plus $10 an hr for some raking? How are you getting $20k? How can Hood have 7 jumps in their public line. $140,000 every 2 weeks all summer? Please.

20,000 was an estimate based off 20 hours of work at $500 per hour (time and bill that I estimated a cat would cost to run in wet, slushy snow).....and other expenses, so while it was an estimate it may be a little high.

Regardless I don't think its unreasonable to say a small jump would cost at least $10,000.....even if a jump were to be built in 5 hours, and it were to have an hour of maintenance a day by a cat for two weeks there's your 20 hours.

anyone have a guess what will be up this weekend as far as rails and jibs go? would like to get in a few more days of skiing this year, even if there is no jump

bout a 15ft, 25ft, 25ft, 10ft triple barrel, and 10ft box. You can only hit 2 a run if you don't want to hike it, 3 if you put in a little extra effort.

a jump would be fun, but i don't really care if there is one or not....it's definitely possible for them to build a jump for a weekend. the broke-ass ski hill i call home in wisconsin used to always have a jump or a hip built for free rail jams in april (april snow in wisconsin is probably equivalent to the snow in colorado now)

I was up there on Friday, pretty fun, they still have a flat down triple barrel, urban on flat, two downs, and a flat triple barrel into a tree bonk thingy. No jumps. Anyone going up tomorrow?

I'll be there tomorrow. probably wearing something totally redic.

anyone else? OFFICIAL ROLL CALL BITCHEZ

Also, just heard they closed down the pond skim today. We should all make sure to complain on their facebook page in hopes of them reopening it for tomorrow. Something along the lines of: "I will only buy a ticket to ski at ABasin tomorrow if the pond skim will be open...."

i'm going! i need a ride too!! (i live near keystone if you're interested in making a new friend) and there's free coffee in it for you!!

and i really hope the pond skim is open tomorrow, because i did it for the first time yesterday, so i really wanted to do it again and get it on film!

take the little cat track like you were heading to Montezuma. The track curves and in the middle there is this big depression with steep walls and a little pond in the middle.

It's not that big, but there's a bunch of different angles to hit it from.

I pulled up to the parking lot at 845 and it was a madhouse so I left for LL pass.. Bolle was having a shoot and built a gnarly jump transfer over avy debris, SO FUCKING SICK.. Not to mention the cornices are as fun as they've been all season up there.
