I was interested in finding out some info on arapahoe basin? what's it like out there? how's the park?

The reason why I ask is because the company that owns arapahoe basin (Dundee Realty USA) just bought my local mountain (Bear Valley, CA) www.bearvalley.com . They said in a press release that they plan to run things identically to how they do in a-basin.

Regardless of how they are, I couldn't be more excited that Bear Valley was bought. The previous owners ran the mountain into a hole and didn't put a cent into it.

Press release: http://www.bearvalley.com/emails/7_19.htm

A Basin doesn't really have a decent park... they had a couple fun rails and the like but for the most part they were really lacking on them. The mountain is also kinda shitty, with alot of slow lifts and whatnot but it can be pretty fun. I don't really know what kinda stuff they will change for bear valley, but I think they are starting to at least move in the right direction (they had jibij camps at the end of this season).

a-basin is more laid back than a lot of other mountains. as wntrwill said, the park is kind of lacking. but, it's a fun place nonetheless.

A-basin is really cool once you understand that it is different from other colorado resorts. its got all slow lifts- little acreage- really good terrain- very cool atmosphere- but little other than that. There is nothing except a bar and tiny cafeteria at the bottom. they have live music in the spring and stuff like that.

they have done a really good job of keeping it low key and stuff.

heh i like how you said it was kinda shitty, its not a top notch resort like vail or anythingt and its not trying to be, but it is far from shitty, they really improved the park a lot this year, they had a few decent rails, a decent kicker and a decent hip, and the terrain is some of the sickest in summit county, pali chair is the sickness, so obviously this dude is talking out of his ass.

I wouldnt go to A-basin for the park, there kinda just a mountain to do some woods and pow skiing, its really fun there though.

I havnt been there in 2 years but when i went there was about 3 jumps, and about 5 rails that are kinda fun just to goof around on

The important question is who is going to be the mountain manager. That will determine more about how it will be run.

A-basin has a terrible park, it's a small mountain, but seems to have pretty good terrain. the only day I ever skiied there we got like 18 inches so I'm not sure what it's like most of the time

We pay our debt sometimes.

A-basin is the shit.

Only the basics you need, no resort bullshit.

ski in ski out free parking, $180 season pass, sickest terrain ever.

The park is slowly improving, there really isn't a lot of room for a park there, but the natural terrain is so good, it really doesn't matter. I'd say they do a pretty good job with what they have available.

don't go to a-basin for the park. its fair but you cant spend a day in it. A-basin is amazing though when there is fresh pow pow and you don't mind hiking a little bit. i've riden the sickest lines i've ever done at a-basin on the east wall. i think its east. whatever it is, it's amazing.

Good question.

Jim Gentling, who has been General Manager of Arapahoe Basin for eight years will relocate and take the reins at Bear Valley.

so that's one more reason why I'm thinking it's going to be ran in the same respect.

by the way, thanks for all the info you guys.

i love a basin, but i dont think ive ever been in the park. east wall upper and lower its sweet. and palavchine(sp) is a pretty tought run. but ya way laid back, mellow, old school. not alot of high tech flashy old stuck up skier stuff

"sickest terrain ever"?

go about an hour further down 70 to vail.

or 20 mins to breck for a park.

abasin is great on a powder day or in april and may when you can hit a few rails and haul a keg to the parking lot.

a bad day'll make you really notice ones this good and that'll make things a little better understood - blackalicious

It doens't matter to him what the terrrain is like, it's not like they're going to change the mountain where they're relocating.

ice-is-scary, skiing it one time means you should keep your mouth shut when someone asks a question like that. skiing it once means absolutely dick. Arapahoe Basin is one of the best ski areas in Colorado. old lifts, yes, but it means posers who ski at vail and breck will stay away (yeah thats right, breckenridge is the worst mountain on the planet earth and everyone who rides there is a complete tool bag, "pro" or not.) the terrain is good, the backcountry is even better, and other than some wind, its a great place to go. you fucking kids are all whiny little bitches. you expect the sun to be shining on a terrain park every single day with no new snow and thats what you call a good day. stop worrying about the park and go ski some powder

^wow you are just out for blood today between this and your other thread.

damn your an asshole, not everyone at breck is a "tool bag" maybe if your bitch ass rode there you would realize that its chill, and yes most of the mountain is flat but you just need to know were to go. I think your the fucking "tool bag".

A-basin is pretty sick, west turbo, pallivicini, E. wall (when it's open), etc. Vail has nothing (inbounds) on Abasin when it comes to challenging terrain.

Breck isn't to be laughed at either. Check out the lake chutes, peak 7, etc. This place is great outside of the park if you are willing to look for it. And if you are not, chair 6 and E chair still offer up some goods.
