93 dodge caravan

heads up to anyone running subs and other sources of strain on the alternator. yesterday driving home form work had the tunes thumping and ac pumping and check gauges light comes on on the dash of my trusty 93 dodge grand caravan. i notice my battery is dropping, so naturally i turn off the subs and ac, still dropping, and i hear the dreaded alt squeal. FML. so i get it home and park. i do a little research and find out the alt form a 3.3 (my engine) anb a 3.0 will work. so i head to a auto wrecker to pick one up. the only one is from a 3.0, no problem, it comes right out. cost 0$ i get home to pull mine out thinking it will be in in no time. i though wrong. what a hassel. unreal amounts of work. so much shit has to come off just to get the alt out. no fun at all. it will be like this on all 3.3 from this generation. i say do not attempt this at home, just fork out the money. il still go on with doing it on my own tho just because im cheap as fuck, and i love my van and have done lots to it myself like brakes and fixing heater and lower rad hose fuel filter, rear heater, serpentine belt and tensioner pulley and other things like a complete new stero, and the addition of a bed when i flip down the back seat. many memories with that van. 340k on it, many ski trips out to BC and back and hopefully many more. the only reason im saying this is its late and im tired and greasy and dont want to go to bed.

my parents gave mme a 94 caravan and it broke and it so wasnt worth it to fix. now i got a ballin subaru legacy

i seriously love this van. at any given moment i have easily four times to value of the van in gear like either a bike or two or kayak or camping gear or longboards haha. if i could get another with less km i def would, and its got 390 not 340km. its been through hell and back and treated me well, but now im paying for my hard driving, its being a real bitch to me by not letting my alt out. this is the worst job i have ever under taken on it. never again. if it happens again il do something like light my engine on fire and be ridden of such hassles. today i tried again to get it out and it just wont go. i finally got the bottom alt bolt out and freed it, BUT despite what everyone says about it coming out the bottom it sure wont. im thinking about taking my air jack hammer and just bending upthe sheet mettal up underneath my firewall, that should give me enough room.

and to whoever wants to see the pic, i assume its of the bed? if so all i did was put my rear three seat bench in the middle position, then added a four foot long platform from the seat to the back of the van. when the seat is up there is a space for the subs to resonate between the platform and the back of the seat, then i fold the seat down and add in another piece of plywood to fill it up. i got my subs underneath and storroage for camping gear or tools and work cloths (im an apprentice electrician yr.1) and up top i put my longboards for easy access. when i fold the front seats back the head rests become pillows for the bed. it works really good and gives me lots more storrage space even with my subs underneath.

wow,

my parents had a 93 plymouth voyager, which is pretty much the same car, and it was the biggest piece of shit ever. its good yours works though.

^grand voyageur or regular? my caravan is a grand so its longer. its got the 3.3 and le trim so basically fully loaded. even has a compase, trip computer, DTE (distance to empty) thermostat average mpg and instantaneous mpg. my moms new van (an o6 grand with stowe and go) doesnt even have that. my parents always took real good care of mine before i got it (bought it back from SGI after it got written off) alwasys had regular oil changes, brakes done when needed, tires done etc etc.

i think it was a grand. they did everything they were supposed to do. our other cars have 300,000 (2000 camry) and 330,000 (97 explorer), the plymouth was the only car my family has had that didnt get to 200,000.

odd. quite odd. the caravan/ voyageur was the greatest vehicle dodge has made. look around, how many ram 50's are around or dodge aries or other cars of that era? very few! how many vans? many!
