I don't get your whole point about level of skiing being relevant to whether or not you can ski the park, but I would definitely be fucking pissed if I had dished out 250 euros for a lift pass, and was then told I couldn't shred the park. Just goes to prove that the French resorts don't give a fuck, they'll just do whatever they want.
 
Of course the park has been privately paid for.....resorts don't build and maintain features just for "pros" just because. Runs with gates for race training that are closed for public are rented out by clubs and teams and they pay big bucks to the ski areas to do so. Use your brain.

fuck those people... it's probably some sort of insurance thing.. the way to get around stuff like that is to sign up for a membership, whatever one runs their program like 30 bucks or something and then your covered aka "pro" in their eyes..
 
Honestly its complete bullshit, we were down at sierra for a powder alliance x newschoolers thing last year and they built this set up for us and "their pros" and i was confused , and the guy was telling us its for the pros and they always have the "big" park closed off just for their riders and pros..... and im siting here like.... yea, my hill builds 60 foot boosters for 12 year old to hit...... you guys are wack.
 
It's really just another sign of FIS trying to dig their dirty fucking asses into this sport, it's slowly happening in a lot of places. Some Places here now want you to "qualify for inverts" from what I understand is you have to join some ski team and have to get a coach to deem you qualified.
 
Sounds about right.. Been in meribel and have only skiied once since french half term in L2A their isnt any point till more opens..

Yeah I mean if you pay for a private park, you get a private park. There can be loads of rules that prevent outsiders from riding these - Waivers, crowding, fis-sanctioned, insurance, etc....

Now what was a dick move is to respond to you that way - of course that depends on how you approached them. If I was running a private park and you rolled up to me like "Hey man, I'm way better than everyone here so let me speed check your stupid park." then I'd give you attitude back as well.

If you were super respectful with a request, then they should have given you a reasonable answer - which I bet would be "Our organization paid for this and for XYZ reasons we aren't allowed to let outsiders ride it. Really sorry man!" - and if you were respectful and they were dicks then yes, fuck them.
 
OP is just mad that he isn't a pro. I got news for you bud. Money can buy you ANYTHING. Including a private terrain park. A resort isn't going to turn down the opportunity for a significant amount of revenue period. Yea it sucks your park is shut down and maybe they built them a really nice park...but ultimately its there choice. They paid for it.

Just put on a nice wig with alot of flow and wear a triple xl tall T or jibbrish. Have your friend follow you around saying ur name asking for your autograph and asking how you won the monster tour in 08. If they say your not pro just challenge them to a game of slivish and pay off the ref.

Insurance. in other word: MMMMMOOOOOOONNNNNEEEEYYYYYYYYYY!

I was a Canadian federation acrobatic member and you have to pay premiums to be a member to make sure you are covered when things turn ugly in training or in competition. These tricks are actually really regulated, they have to qualify the flips and doubles (or not on dubs) on water ramps before doing them on snow. They did a great job on regulating safety in the sport, and the fis is still doing an outstanding job today.

Now these features are larger than any private insurance will be willing to cover, or so expensive that ski centers cant dish out the cash. They loan a section of the mountain to the FIS or an insured skiing body and one of the points in the contract is separate coverage in case of injury.

Ever since the rise in lawsuits for profit was on the rise in the US, they have to tone everything down to avoid the negligence cause.

Solutions? Well, I can see 2. You join these competitive teams and get access to them or you take out extra insurance for yourself and get it approved by the site managers, resort management and coaches on site.
 
I went to Val thorens today. The public park setup was pathetic. Lack of snow is not an excuse when they've managed to cover ever other run with snow guns, it's just lazy

I get you point but I think your anger is misdirected

About the insurance, france has none of that super expensive bills if you hurt yourself bad like murica, plus most people get the ski pass insurance for paying heli and shit. The only insurance related issue would be for the pro park to be sued if gapers fucked themselves on it, but there's a "at your own risk" sign and shit everywhere to get em covered. So only reason is money the resort makes...

to y'all, I went back few days ago, few guys were way chilled and bitched on whoever told me not to come, hit a couple laps with them until some dude was like, "dont take the big kicker cos you haven't technically paid since you have no license, and there's a bit of a line", but if you just hit the smaller one and the rails ya it's cool". Guess it just depends on the generosity of people ! Anyways it closed yesterday, but I think the park is destroying the bigger jump for security reasons. Hope they leave the rails and start adding on. Im back in a few weeks anyways so should be good then !

so if you're pro/licensed/have privileges...be cool and help a fellow freeskier out, that's what this sport is about !
