The National Weather Service in Reno NV has issued a Winter Storm

Warning.

Light to moderate snow will continue through Wednesday afternoon.

Eight to 14 inches of snow are likely above 7000 feet through

Wednesday afternoon.

After a brief break... the next system will move in Thursday morning

and bring heavy snow to the Sierra. Two to four feet of new snow is

expected in the mountains through Friday... with up to six feet of

snow possible in the higher elevations. Strong winds will also

develop over the area on Thursday. This could produce areas of

blowing and drifting snow as well as local whiteout

conditions... especially over the mountain passes.

Periods of snow are expected through the New Years Day weekend.

Snow will become heavy after 4 PM this afternoon and continue

through Friday. Storm total accumulations of 2 to 4 feet are

expected above 6000 feet with amounts between 4 and 6 feet above 8000

feet. Strong west to southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to

50 mph will affect the area Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.

Gusts near 100 mph are possible over the Sierra crest. This will

produce low visibilities in areas of blowing and drifting snow... and

local blizzard conditions over the mountain passes.

Periods of snow are expected through the New Years Day weekend.

the forcast is usualy pretty conservative, and seeing how the top is 11,000. they should be a good 10+feet up there soon.
