7d timelapse

I just got a 7d a while back, seriously an incredible piece of equipment. I have been trying to figure out some timelapses, but it seems that the only way to do them using photographs is with the remote. Is there another way that is only using the camera itself? I dont have the money to get a remote right now...

you cant use that on a 7d, you have to get a 7d specific remote. Google an intervalometer and you can find one 7d/5d/1d specific.
 
yeah, i soon realized that when i went to check it out, forgot it doesnt have the same connection. thanks for the help though, just gonna have to save up some money!
 
You can shoot time-lapses with your 7D if you don't mind hooking it up to your laptop. Install the EOS Utility software that came with your camera, and you're good to go. The software allows you to shoot a set number of pictures at intervals from 1 second to 99 hours.
 
Nope, i do it all the time. If anything it makes your life easier by removing 1 step from your workflow in the sense that the pictures are saved directly to your laptop rather than memory card.
 
The major drawback is bringing your computer with you to shoot. If you're planning on doing something for several hours, you have to have an electrical outlet or a damn good battery in your laptop.
 
yeah exactly. A remote timer/intervalometer is ideal, but if you're just playing around and testing some lapses or have access to an outlet where you can have your laptop plugged in then that's fine.
