the sprite ice sessions are using a 70ft table in the big air comp, i have never hit anything this big in my life, the closest i have gone is probab;y 40ft. what are super massive boosts like???, any good tips???thinking of doing blunt 3. im not expecting to place just in it for the experience

ULTA-MATUM

there like normal tables, but bigger, ull hit it faster n shit, as long as it dosnt boost u way up its all mental, just go for it

I bet if you cased that 70ft. table it would hurt. Yeah I think speed is key.

IM out like a blind kid in laser tag--- --- I'm out like a midget in a high jump competition

im guess that it will be made well also which makes a huge difference, saw it for the 1st time today and was like.... i need new undies. but its cost me $30 to enter so im in for sure. i guess once you see someone else hit it and make it ill be fine

and remember, overshooting is a lot better than undershooting, so dont be a puss

should be pretty big this year coz there is no x-games in oz which isnt too much of a loss i guess. but bad coz means will be super freaks competing but i guess i wont get a better view, i have a vid cam but i dont know if i can get anyone to film.

They built a big air jump at my local mountain in west virginia two years ago. they canceled the comp for shitty weather and had the jump 'poled' off but we knew the park attendedant and he let me and the guy who was teaching me how to jump hit it. I didnt know this but one of his friends caught me on film ( i was still doing straight airs) anyway it was like a 65 footer. and I ran into the kid whos friend filmed it at the bar last winter and he said they play it at parties cuz i went like 75 feet on it and yard saled and gave myself some kinda head injury it flashed really white and sounded like thunder in my ears when i landed and my arms got really tingly. Ohh yeah im trailling off moral of the story hit it fast but not to fast :D these things might be hard to judge

Get some kid who knows what he or she is doing, and who has the speed timed right. Then just stick your skis in their tracks, and think happy thoughts. Stay foreward too because if you land on your ass, your back will snap pretty good. Oh yeah, don't try a rodeo seven on your first attempt before even skoping the hit. My friend did that on a poorly built 70 footer, and tore his ACL, MCL, got the wind knocked out of him, and got a concussion. Good luck.

'I won't be able to vote for like...four more years.' (18 year old Tanner Hall)

'My knee hurts' (Jeff Merat after grinding a lunch table for an hour instead of sitting in the ski patrol shack for his torm mcl and acl which he got earlier that day.)

'It's too bad one piece suits are gay because they're really warm, and when you fall, they keep the snow out.' (Dean Cummings)

'I'm not asking for any help, just mabe for you to get off your ass.'(my dad)

we had a comp with a 70 foot table, very unpradictable what will happen, a snowboarder landed directly on his head on a over rotated dub backflip and walked away and some skier caught his edged on a 360 and ended up having to get carted off the mtn, soo its hard to say whats gonna happen at your comp

hey a 70 footer is all mental anything you can throw on a 30-40 footer is gonna be the same just straight air it a couple times. The first time you go blind off it and land it will be the biggest rush in your life and

I gurantee you'll be so stoked you ill go crazy

.

where is this sprite big air? and for big tables just go fast. the ones at the vt open were gigantic. they had 2 back to back 80 foots

i like to burn things

i can do a summersault

Biggest I've hit was about 50ft (UK BUSC championships - check this pic), but the landing was reaqlly sketchy - too short and steep - Andy Bennet from Line UK overshot a zero spin on his first jump - nasty.

Apart from that one jump, I've found that the bigger the jump, the more well-proportioned it is. I'm talking about takeoff/landing angles and such, so there shouldn't be much compression when you land. Just watch other guys' speed before you hit it. If the landing is nice and long then don't be scared to go huge. Like a pro in France once told me, better to land on your head on the landing than on your feet on the knuckle.

just go as fast as you can and huck yourself as hard as you can. you'll probably land.

I forgot the picture there - 50ft table, BUSC 2003, Les Duex Alpes, France:

that tignes jump was pretty big. that comp was in october right?

Life sucks, get a fucking helmet

-Denis Leary

That kicker there is Les Deux Alpes in April. The kicker they used for the Brits snowboarding comp was even longer.

I know Tignes though - the one on the far right of the park as you are going down was pretty huge - at least 60ft I'd say - I only saw one guy hit it the week I was there. A snowboarder I know, Dan Butler, was throwing 5s OVER the spine at the bottom of Tignes park this season though - that's pretty insane.

'and remember, overshooting is a lot better than undershooting, so dont be a puss'

uhhh no...noo dude

coming down from 20 feet up and 65 feet long = bad

coming down from 40 feet up and going 90 feet = worse

- Patrick·patproductions·poniverus·

Looks like rain to me.

Yeah - overshooting a landing completely will hurt a lot more than coming up short. But like I said, if the landing is really long then you shouldn't be scared to go big because even if you slide out on your head you're landing on a slope so it won't hurt as much. I'd imagine that if there is a 70ft kicker for a comp, the landing will be decent.

yah i have hit 70 footer's, there not that much bigger, i think it depends how high it takes you, when your talking to yourself in the air then you know it's big.

skiing is so hot right now!!!

decking it on to your feet will be uncomfortable but it wont kill you or ruin your day. but when you throw a trick off it make sure you have enough speed.

on a 70ft jump better to have a low trajectory that way if u fall u will slide and not smack. smacking is bad, very bad! in verbier the biggest booter has been as big as 55ffet that was like 2001 and it might have been 60 feet. we tucked for 400 yrds just to clear it and all we were doing was mutes, toxics, and japans. if u wanna spin a cork 3 blunt I would suggest tucking for 500 yrads and not wearing loose clothing cause it will throw off ur balance in th air, and ur going to feel a lot of air!

hahaha reminds me of this time when my friend wanted to hit this 100 ft. table... really it was a hip but he wanted to try and clear the whole thing. The biggest thing he had ever hit was a 50 footer... so he bombs this hill but he didn't know u had to bomb the whole trail basically to get speed for it and he goes up and in the air u can hear him scream oooo shit!!! and then he landed like 3/4 of the way maybe like 75 feet and landed and slammed his face into the table it was the funniest thing i had ever seen... he got like 13 feet above and just slammed himself into the table... good times..

landing on yer head hurts, trust me

i hate posers. thanx to harvey and all who contribute to the site for makin it so kick ass. the world is my very own pot party.

at smuggs they made a 50 footer with a huge ass lip that was like 45 degrees in pitch. i hit it first, it thrw me like 20 feet in the air and i went about 80 feet. cleared the landing. it was fun.

shine so bright when i walk by, ya gotta squint like da muthafukin son in ya eye.

as a kid i used to like to like riding in the car with my head out the window. i would do it all the time. until one day a car was coming. my head hit a dogs head, and my head knocked the dogs head off. now i dont lean out the window anymore.

doin cork 5's over this 120 foot hip at mammoth like no sweat.... i dont think i would be calm and joking around like thovex before hitting that jump

man my biggest yet is a 40 table. it was a hip. But i also was really high in the air. I remember going up and still having time to grab. then coming down i still had time to grab. but while i was in the air i remember looking at how close i was to the tree branches thinking to myself thats really close. I wish i could see you guys do this shit. sounds rad

you will be fine.

Longer table tops are perfect, you have more time to do your trick.

The only concern you should have is the kick off the lip.. If it sends you more than 15 feet up then it'll be pretty crazy.

It's a jump for a competition, so I'm sure they are going to make a nice smooth tranisition and longer landing.

What's scary is when you and friends make a 70 foot jump and you are the first to test it.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

the biggest jump i've ever hit was at the Spring Board meeting in Michigan. The table was probably about 50 feet. I'm watchin all these kids throwin corked 7's and switch backflips off it and I'm just poopin my pants cause its so big. The first time I hit it i speed check and come up way short. Next I get to the knuckle. Then I just pop harder and start leaning back to far and I clear it and fall. Then I land it and it was so cool biggest air ever. Next I hit it faster and pop harder. Big mistake, I start leaning back farther and farther. I landed on my back about 70 feet from the lip. My skis flew like 20 feet high. It was nuts. A 70 foot jump sounds fun. Good luck in your comp.

I've cased of a 55footer once, I came up short and double ejected straight up in the air from my bindings, but I would say the worst was this time I got 6 feet out of the pipe and driften over the trannie and fell 18 feet flat sideways into the groud. that was a day before I started my level 2 instructor, that hurt like a biatch!

me and my friends have hit a 60 foot step down which was pretty burly, we werent doin anythin as technical as a blunt 3 cause this jump was a little big, but the best advice is just go at it fast, cause your more likely to box it out than over shoot, and just hold the grab in, it helped me from flailin by doin that

don't check your speed!! I always just tell somebody that is the best skier there that I will be right on their ass when they go off the jump to get the speed down. Normally, they don't care just don't get too close.

I went and checked it out today, landing is reall long and wide and on a good angle. it shrunk a bit in the rain, the snow was so soft the cats couldnt drive up to try and fix it, it is snowing now, hopefully it will stop tomorrow and be nice for the pipe comp on saturday/big air sunday.
