70 Uncomfortable Facts About The US Economy, By The Numbers

it's because the bigwigs think we HAVE to be the most powerful country and we HAVE to be the international police

Reduce the military spending by two... Perhaps America could be a great country. But as usual, USA has to be the police of the World because (Same as during the cold war) you want trade partners to follow your rules ! Thats only one critic though.

I hate statistics. It is way too easy to sway the results one way or another. I think the difference lies in what the US government defines as unemployed vs the conventional idea of unemployment... I googled it and the government states the following on one of their sites:

Persons are classified as unemployed if they do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior 4 weeks, and are currently available for work. Actively looking for work may consist of any of the following activities:

Contacting:

An employer directly or having a job interview

A public or private employment agency

Friends or relatives

A school or university employment center

Sending out resumes or filling out applications

Placing or answering advertisements

Checking union or professional registers

Some other means of active job search

But being a statistician, why not use the conventional idea of unemployment, and say that 100 million americans are unemployed (just without a job, not looking for work etc.) as well?

That was a ramble and a half i think. I'm at work and procrastinating.

Sparknotes: Fuck stats

100,000,000 - Overall, there are more than 100 million working age Americans that do not currently have jobs.

Strait up false

I would not mind getting my hands on some of the coke they used on those quail. Shit's probably grade-A if the Gov is testing with it

It seems like the author of that article pulls numbers from the American's not in the labor force (which says nothing about "working age"). The percentages of those "in the labor force" are frightening though.

that wasn't the point. Rock. made a list of things apparently America doesn't have, so mine was a rebuttle. i wasn't saying canada doesn't have that, i was simply showing that he's a moron.

don't try and jump in to conversations, you look like a fucking retard now

lol at this thread helping canadians feel better about their both metaphorically and literally small dicks

Communist? You seem a bit mixed up. I never mentioned anything about 'forcing' firms to employ more Americans. Let the free market figure it out. Unemployment in America will go up, for good reason. And on the debt piece, I still have not been able to work out how the Fed saved their own asses during crisis, blowing the debt out of proportion. They should have let the banks feel the punishment they deserved for shadowing. The pansies stated that they couldn't save Lehman, then bailing out AIG for a shit ton more than they would have spent on Lehman. I guess Goldman cronies always get their way.

DO you realize what you're saying right here ? What are the good reasons ? I can't really figure out but I can figure why there's unemployment then you let me know if its good or bad.First of all, deindustrialization process... Global shift in southern countries and sectoral shift in your country. SO many workers lose their jobs because the firm decided to relocate it's manufactering branch in order to save few dollars and compete with the Chinese, compete with an economy developed countries created (absurd).

And so MEDCs want to invest only in tertiary and quaternary sector in order to generate more value added. But the problem is that our diplomas are becoming useless because there are less and less jobs available, even with high studies, you can't always get what you want.

Unemployment from the manufactering sector + youth unemployment rising + the work market in the US being highly flexible = 8.2% in May 2012

Population of the US: 313,544,04. Basically, there are approx 25,710,611 unemployed people in the US. That's a bit more than half of France's population...
