7 days in a week

does anybody know why there are 7 days in a week, and why the months have somewhere around 30 days. i know its kinda random but i'd be interested if anyone knew. it probably relates to either religion or astronomy, but does anyone really know?

ya i know, but how did they choose 7 days. i mean, why not 8 or 6 or 183? maybe they picked a number out of a hat.

well i think seven days comes from god saying like we should work six days and then on the seventh rest and praise or wateva, but aside from that (like months) i think there probobly is some pattern in the stars or something that repeats every 30 days (like im not sure just a guess)

 
ik this is why. there is 24 hours in a day. theres 34 hours because thats how long it takes for the earth to make a full spin. then there are 7 days in the week because i think because since a year is 12 months which =52 weeeks and 52 times 7 is 365 and then you must take into consideration that there is actually 24 hours and 56 secs or something in a day. it all comes out to 365 days in a year. wow im a genuis and im only in 7th grade

there's a pattern in the moon and it tales the earth 24 hours and a quarter day do do a rotation. they took these rotations and separated the patterns in the moon with them.

i no i dont make much sense but that's what i think.

actually theres 365.24 days in a year- thats why we have leap years- 7 days was biblical- months are like i dunno- ill tell you when i review for my finals

We have seven days as said before do to Religious reasons. We are based on the Gregorian Calender which is based on Christianity. As said before there are not 365 days in an earth's trip around the sun but 365 1/4. There actually should be about 365 1/4 degrees in a circle when you look at things from using a Sexton (One position of the moon for every day of the year). However, the 5 1/4 degrees were elimated for mathematical reasons. 360 divides by time evenly (60 sections) also devides evenly into Quadrants (for longatude and latitude).
